Who's stupid idea was it to tease it at e3 with it that far away? They obviously hire conference organizers the same way they hire writers.

They have ESO, which sells well, so maybe they are not really interested in making Elder Scrolls VI. At least in the near future.

Ontopoly they had no choice but to show something TES-related, otherwise Fo76 announcement would piss of the fanbase.

It kinda makes sense. Bethesda games were always shit, but they had the market cornered. Nobody else made open world games in their space except some tiny niche studios (like PB) or games very different in nature (Rockstar). That's really not the case anymore. There are a lot of good open world games now, and more in development. Witcher 3/Cyberpunk 2077, KCD/KCD2, BotW/BotW, ELEX/ELEX2, Elden Ring. And even shit like Outer Turds and Ass Creed Butthala is cutting into Bethesda's margins with the filthy casuals. There is nothing that they do now that other studios do not do much, much better. So I would delay TES6: Buttrim also if I was them. Safer to stick with Skyrim re-releases for microwave, MMOs in a dying genre, and Prospermeda No. 2.

dmg control

Sure, hold up the shiny TES6 to distract the fans. But when the game is literally 5 years away (or more) you're eventually going to get a bigger backlash than you avoided before. Especially if Starfield is online focused.

That said, if the MMO is making tons of money they likely don't care much about that "core" fanbase beyond platitudes.

This is hilarious. Bethesda is kinda struggling (well not really financially, but in terms of their vectors/directions), and Obsidian has become the new Bethesda, with shitty bland stupid games praised by the mainstream. Feargus just needs to lose a foot off his height, start looking like a leprechaun, lying a bit more about Fluorescent AI ™, and stiff Bethesda on a contracted out game due to a .1 difference in game review scores, and the transformation will be complete.

They wanted to bamboozle the crowd and let ES6 be the big topic of the E3 rather than Cyberpunk. They thought simply dropping the name would be sufficient.

They overestimated their standing. CDPR is the new king on the hill for now.
