You can get a Demon Hammer in both DS1 and 2 right off the bat, but 2 had the "courtesy" of including it as a random drop from the smooth and silky stones. I got it once, it's rare but not impossible.

So what, having a chance to get a weapon that requires 50 STR at the beginning of a game is now game ruining? Sounds like a retarded thing to complain about. Although I don't even know how powerful that thing is, in all hundreds of hours of DS1/2 I never was tempted to use that weapon, just looked boring. My idea of OP early weapon is Fire Longsword. And I'm fine with it being accessible early too.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.

People love to bitch about all sorts of shit in DS2.

Meanwhile in DS3 you can R1-spam your way from start to finish with the basic longsword you get as a knight. It's p. much the best wep in the game. How many people complained? I know the exact number - one. It was just me.

Iron Keep was fun, but I've never seen a Dark Souls boss with more generic moveset straight out of 3D platformer than Old Iron King, with big "hit me" windows and even roar included

I agree with you. But Two Handing a weapon decreases its STR by 50% so you'd need 25 STR to use it properly. To be fair, Demon Hammers do look impressive when you have just a broken sword but they aren't that good.

Maybe I'll play dark souls 2 again. I play all these junky souls clones and I've only ever played through dark souls 2 once, many years ago. I remember it being all wrong as a sequel to dark souls but if I pretend it's a sequel to lords of the fallen I think it'll be a fantastic improvement.

Was thinking of writing up a summary of the journey so far, handily, the game summed it up itself:

Everything besides like 3 levels feels like filler, including bosses. Today's highlight was Shrine of Amana, it felt like the one place where all features met together seamlessly to provide a complete puzzle that was engaging to solve AND looked nice. At least until you get to probably the easiest boss ever at the end of it.

Ya know, after Lords of the Fallen, I was ready to dump this company in to the proverbial toilet but they obviously went back to the drawing board and released a brand new title in only a single month which improved on almost everything that was wrong with their game. Oddly, it is titled “Dark souls 2”, an homage to the famous series which never actually had a second installment.

The team has clearly decided that making a functional game is a much better way to spend money than simply making more polygons, shadows and textures. They’ve gone with a more cartoony approach but the silly looking graphics pair well with the kitchen sink style of gameplay that they’ve gone with here.

Say goodbye to slip’n’slide, low impact, farty battles because Dark Souls 2 has completely revamped the combat system that plagued Lords of The Fallen. Now you have hefty, satisfying strikes and good control of your position on the field. They’ve also given up the ludicrously lame lantern and dark world ripped off from the popular 90s adventure game classic “Dark Seed” which is a monumental improvement.

Balance has become a thing of the past now, Lords of the Fallen was plagued with haughty micromanagement by developers to keep their players from enjoying themselves. In Dark Souls 2, nothing is stopping you from breaking the game. You can carry 1000s of arrows, you’re drowning in upgrade materials, levelling up boosts your power quickly and noticeably, the AI is wacky and exploitable, instead of having to choose a single summon that does barely any damage and dies in 2 hits, you can bring multiple badass npcs with you and mercilessly bully the bosses.

Instead of directly copying Dark Souls like they used to, the team has changed the atmosphere to be more more dream-like and Silent Hillish. I’m glad they decided to do something original, let Dark Souls be Dark Souls and Lords of the Fallen can be Dark Souls 2.

The one blunder they’ve stuck with are the abundance of ambushes, which really start to become insulting within an hour. I’m not going to fall for more than one ambush, do game designers think we’re that stupid? They did at least cut down the amount of enemies and don’t grind your patience down to the nub with constantly respawning mooks.

So far I’ve explored the giants forest, tower of flame, the pirate den and killed the lost sinner. It’s no Dark Souls, but it’s definitely the best soulslike I’ve ever played.

Welcome to jaekl 's all Codex tour where he travels various threads explaining people with passion and detail how much he hated Lords of the Fallen.

The world can't afford not to know.

He finished it? Jesus, why?

:salute:
God no, I quit a little bit after the boss which is a lady hucking fireballs at you while you roll around looking for little spirit squirts to shine your light on. But this is more about how I'm trying to enjoy Dark Souls 2, Lords of the Fallen is just an unfortunate target I'm throwing darts at on the side.

Nice, my theory seems fruitful...

In this corner, in fanboy tights, we have the Champion of all things Souls, cvv!

my life goal is to play all soulslikes

And in this corner, cradling a bucket of shit and ready to fling, it's the anti-cvv, jaekl!

an homage to the famous series which never actually had a second installment

Let's get ready to rumblllleeeeee!

Lock-on is awful in DS2, even if you just want to block, it will instead focus on the target behind who you want to face, or switch targets randomly. I gave up blocking in this fight and just roll-slashed through everything. Elana wasn't even that hard, but moments like this make me wonder if they test all bosses on characters with different playstyles.

I am playing DS2 with the expansion.
How annoying are invasions? And how many hackers there are?
