BS in DaS seems much easier to land than in DeS. Wonder why they changed it.

Because every time you backstab someone, you get an erection.

Funny you guys mention that, my first PvP consisted of some fucker constantly backstabbing me, kinda turned me off to it. That was like the second day the game came out, bought on release. Demon's Souls PvP was superior in my experience.

I wonder what the Soul Level 1 class will be?

Demon's Souls: Royalty.
Dark Souls: Pyromancer.
Dark Souls 2: ___________.

My first PvP experience consisted of me rolling into the dephts Anor Londo just when I was about to kill the bastard. So it can be worse.

Well being constantly poisoned so I can't move/coughing my lungs out and being daggered in the back is far more discouraging than making an honest personal mistake and killing yourself. I mean yeah you'll get pissed off at first and your opponent is probably laughing his ass off but there's always a another chance when you recover.

They cannot get rid of backstabs. Backstab is essential. Else everyone will stack up poise and keep going for slower weapons, spam humanity/estus/sorceries. Currently, you can punish people who do that. Without backstab - it's gg.

Backstab's problem is that it's too damn easy to do and that it makes so much damage no matter what target's doing.

But that's the thing, they don't need to get rid of it, they just need to make sure it's not so good that pvp battles consist mainly of BS fishing. As it stands, even slow weapon users opt for the backstab as their staple move.

It needs to be toned the fuck down, it's way too dominant.

Make backstabs and riposte cost lots of stamina to use? Maybe all of it so you can't roll and dodge and you risk giving a freebie to the enemy after he gets up. I can run into the smack middle of a pack of monsters and riposte their asses all day without taking a single hit from them. Sure, there are easier ways to kill them all, but it is kind of overpowered to be able to do this, and in theory you can do the same in PvP as well. It's almost like running with IDDQD on.

Oh, man, Royalty. Totally forgot about that. That's the class I started with on my first playthrough. Nerd chills.

Is there any starter class more OP than the Royal? 20% more MP catalyst, 20% more MP silver coronet, MP regen ring and start with a shield and rapier so you can safely poke enemies to death. Not to mention that Soul Arrow is a MUCH better starter spell due to low MP cost. They meant business when they named the class Royal. Poor Wizard got shafted pretty hard.

The problem is that once you have a decent shield you might as well be invulnerable in Dark Souls. Anything that isn't a backstab will do about 10 damage to a blocking player.

Anyone know of any really impressive Dark Souls players who do cheese runs and/or speed runs? I'm really curious about watching this sort of stuff. I've been following TheMeInTeam's LP series (he also does really, really good Civ IV and HoMM III LPs), but a friend of mine says he's not that good compared to some so I'm wondering if there are players that are on a whole other level that I can marvel at.

Vageta311's stuff might be up your alley. He has some decent material, such as one-shot boss-kill challenges, sequence-breaking playthroughs etc. Not sure about him being on "a whole other level", but he is highly skilled.

http://www.youtube.com/user/vageta311 would be his channel.

This guy does some crazy challenge runs: http://www.twitch.tv/lobosjr/old

-Dark Souls Challenge runs-

Dagger Only All Bosses
Fist Weapon Only
Shield Only
Whip Only
Bow Only
Random Stats (roll to dump stats at each bonfire)
'Use What You See'
Deprived Run (using only deprived starting gear)
Broken Sword Only
No Roll/Shield run
Kirk Armor/Orange Charred Ring run
Community Run (Xbox)
Community Run (PC)
Cursed/Calamity/Dusk Crown/No Shield run
Consumable Only run
Left-handed weapon run
Whip Only All Bosses
No heal/no bonfire run
No HUD (even menus) + Great Scythe Run
Catalyst Melee-Only run
Sorcery-Only run
Punch-Only Challenge: Gwyn, Lord of Cinder
Pike Charge-Only Run
Dragon Breath Only run
In Progress:
Bandit Class Challenge (no upgrading, no leveling, starting gear) Blindfolded Run (Currently at the top of Sen's)

Edit: He's done more than that too, speedruns obviously, but he also did a miracles only run (I never knew emit force did damage) and a cheese every boss run (which included a variety of disgusting and original methods, along with some plain old stone knight + rapey weapon cheese for the few he couldn't figure out anything cheesier for.)

Yeeeep. Other truly enjoyable challenges include pyro glove only challenge (that one might take a while, and dunno what he did for quelaag) and first person mode challenge. Oh, and the 'not enough stats' run, in other words, your weapon bounces every swing. Also, dragon breath refers to the incredibly shitty and weak dragon covenant weapon, not the awesome rapey sorcery.

That's not how I'd describe one of the worst spells.

Even the worst offensive spell is awesome and rapey compared to that breath attack. Especially since the int requirement on it means it's going to rape by default, unlike soul arrows, which are going to do fuck all if you have 10 int.
