I'm surprised 11% of users consider a game with bad combat, bad progression, bad enemy variety, and mediocre quest writing "one of the best games ever made".

Those are all secondary to the core of why people like Bethesda games: they're relaxed, easy-to-play excuses to roam around a fantasy landscape, see the sights, and participate in an adventure. It's one of the least diluted ways you can satisfy the same itch a lot of moviegoers felt after watching Lord of the Rings: "I'd like to go there." I don't think it's anything less or more than that, and while they're not up to the standards of other RPGs from other developers, the core gameplay loop in your average Bethesda title isn't bad enough to pull people out of that experience, especially when it's engaged with casually.

Would probably still be playing it if the original version hadn't been so buggy and crash-happy. I had a good number of mods that didn't work on the special edition. I'll be honest, it was mostly for the combat, larping a vampire lord or werewolf and slaughtering bandits/marks.

I'll watch it after i finish Skyrim and its DLCs (as i wrote previously while i did finish it back in 2012 or so, i forgot everything about it aside from having to do with dragons and never played the DLCs, so i'd like to avoid spoilers) but looking at that guy's other videos he does seem to have a good taste.

Bethesda don't make CRPGs, they make Action-RPGs. More specifically, they make a very particular Action-RPG called Bethesda Game™. Now, sure, it might not have great RPG mechanics or plot or agency, but between an expansive, proven open-world formula and, quite possibly, the AAA sector's premier modding platform and community, I like Bethesda Game™. I can crap on its numerous flaws for hours, but I can still have plenty of fun with it for many more.

Everyone here plays their games for a hundred hours, don't let them fool ya.

Skyrim proposal is to be a open world ARPG. Did Skyrim succeeded on Action or RPG department???

Action part: 3 main styles. Melee, ranged or magical.

Melee -> fails miserably with a endless "single button spam". Due OP enchantments and percentage dam reduction, a knife is better at dealing with heavy armor than a warhammer.
Ranged -> Bow + Crossbow = Great
Magical -> Dual casting firebolt or ran out of mana extremely quickly


The "RPG" part, Skyrim lacks choice & consequence, character identity and honestly, survival games like Conan Exiles has more RPG on it than skyrim. Skyrim is inferior to other ARPG's of his time in every single metric.
