Moo?
Have to admit, Bro was pretty amusing.

Anyway, I've just now started paying attention to this game. Sounds like now is a good time to download.

Seems to me like they went full retard with the new "hard mode" enemies. You have mobs that deal around 60 damage ranged and 80 melee, with bloated HP and defense.

What is this faintly glowing blue crystal that I found in an underground lake? I've tried Googling but can't find out anything. It doesn't break when I try to mine it, so I'm assuming I need a better pick or something.

Hammer has no effect.

I just found a small cluster of them. They seem to change shape when i hit them.

Edit: a golden pickaxe mined it. It's demonite ore. Whatever that is.

Durr, obviously it's meant to be triggered when you've 'beaten' normal mode - that is, you have all the best crap that existed prior to 1.1. You're lacking in def if they do that much damage to you.

I quit and uninstalled. Eye of Cthulhu is unreasonably difficult, and I can't imagine the later bosses will be any easier.

The first form is piss easy but takes forever to destroy (so it's a complete waste of time), and the second form is too difficult. It essentially cannot be dodged and cooldowns on healing potions are so long that you can only use one. By the time I died he still had over 300 HP, and I had used up all my shurikens. I had iron armor except for my helmet which was copper. I also had some magic items that gave me another +5 to defense. I had 260 HP.

If I wanted to fight him again I'd have to trek back to the altar, make a new eye, wait for night again... yeah, no thanks.

Either gear up more or do it co-op with someone; pretty simple really.

Setup an arena properly and you shouldn't have much of a problem dodging most of his attacks. Admittedly, it's been a while since I played, but if you setup an arena with around five levels of ledges (able to jump to each) with dirt walls on either end to allow for the easy retrieval of ammo you should have an easy time with the eye.

Bow's might also be better damage wise for the second half, but, as I've said, it's been a while since I played.

I always just use a pile of shurikens on a long wooden platform. He's easy to dodge on a flat surface.

But yeah, if you found that overly difficult with those stats, jsut give up now. You'd kill yourself over some of the other bosses.

I have mithril armor now, with accessories gives 37 total defense + 8 from iron skin potion. Enemies still deal damage up the ass. There's also skeleton archers that halve your defense for added hilarity.
And "all the best crap" is right, seeing how it becomes completely useless at that point.

It's also funny how hell doesn't get any new stronger enemies while the layer just before it became absolute rape territory.

Can't remember what I used to kill the Eye of Cthulhu. I think I built an arena and used fire arrows. That was ages ago though, I dunno if he's any different now.

Only thing that gives me much trouble are the new bosses and the slow status. Holy fuck does being slowed screw you over badly when you're surrounded.

Have full mithril now, + adamantite helmet (22 defense just from the helmet, fucking awesome) plus tricked out accessories I have something like 54 defense in melee mode. Mythril gunner hat on switch drops me down to ~40 but then I can spam fire unholy arrows ridiculously. I think one arrow did like 200-300 damage to a particular boss when aimed properly. Before that I had crystal bullets + phoenix blaster, shit is crazy.

My main gripe is the low drop rate on those stupid souls. I can only find the fuckers in a few tiny spots on the whole map, and then they drop a soul like once per 5 kills or so? Ugh.

That's the exact same strategy PC Gamer wrote for defeating him last month. Good to know they're on the ball.

Havent played this game in forever but I remember having difficulty for first few hours of the game and then I dig through to hell level, got a Dark Lance from the first chest I saw there and the game became easy mode. Bosses became a joke, monsters couldnt touch me either. The only thing that was fucking me over was hot surfaces but other then hell it was rarely a problem. Not sure if they balanced that lance a bit but that thing made the game way to easy.

Obviously they're saving it for another patch - let people spend hours grinding the new stuff, then introduce another new tier that makes the best gear all obsolete again. :)

@mugarod:

Yeah it's a mid-game weapon now at best.

You can't get it without a shadow key from the dungeon anyway. I think the hell enemies were also buffed at some point.

Also, traps. I only played on a new world for a bit, but reading the feedback forums seems like there's a bunch of insta-death traps. Sounds like so much fun.

E: Looks like new staple accessory, together with the philosopher's stone.

I've had fairly shit luck with accessories. I still don't have one of those icon things that boost damage, never seen that thing you have there, never found water breathing item either. I've basically got 2 slots right now that are pretty much filler junk.
