So now I'm trying to actually play through Hommlet once...

I will not commit suicide. I will not commit suicide. I most definitely will not commit suicide. I will not... *sob*

Increasing all levels of monsters/enemies by 1 might balance a level 10 party better. Someone should make a mod like that.

You'll be looking back on Hommlet with fond memories once you get to the swamp town.

The overall writing and world building in the game are some of the worse i have seen in an somewhat high production rpg, Hommlet´s quests and dialogues and then swamp town... but as people have said, this is the best turned based combat in a D&D environment that you will ever get.

KotC2 coming out in 3-4 years if we are lucky.

I want to believe.

Yeah I had memories of good combat, trying to get back into it the interface and feel of the game is slow and full of boring. I need to get out of the starting town and avoid interacting with the village bumpkins

If you don't feel like tackling the Moathouse with a fresh party, talk to the carpenter and get the quest to kill giant spiders. Then visit the old battlefield with the undead, you get the location from the church iirc, and CN starts the game with that location.

Or hire Elmo and Moathouse should be quite doable even without prior XP.

It looks nice, but their previous work leaves me a bit reticent to jump on that bandwagon just yet. Will wait for a demo to make up my mind.

There are a metric ton of better TB games than ToEE. I thought you were talking about TB D&D.

What then? The best D&D RPG will be the best TB RPG because D&D is the best developed/most polished TB system that exists (until RoleMaster is ported to CRPG)

ToEE's system is wasted on dull combat encounters. Like someone above me in this thread has said, it's a game that badly needs a SCS-type mod.

Take a look at the interview in my sig. I think you will find their answers positive, for the most part, also in relation to the worry you express there.

Playing ToEE for the first time now and I have to say, the combat is indeed pretty good. But it feels like there are not enough interesting locations or quests.

The Temple itself is quite fun though, enjoyed it probably the most of the whole game.

I want to play this shit a bit finally as i never got anywhere first time around, which was long time ago. Now there are all these mods so i need a quick startup advice on the optimal setup. Got this bundle, where there are
Temple+ 1.0.42
Front-End-X 4.6
Orion's Ultimate Fixes
Co8 8.1.0 (both versions)
The Keep On The Borderlands

From this thread i understood that additional content of C08 is better avoided as it sucks and is bad for balance. Will follow that. What about the Temple+? Does it add any content or just makes additional fixes that aren't in C08? I assume they both work together. The Orion's fixes seems like an overkill as both previous mods already make fixes and this probably just clashes with them. Or not? FrontendX is just a sort of mod manager so it's good, right?
The Borderland thingy is a stand alone module so no questions about that.

Thanks in advance bros and trannies.

Don't go over the top IMO. When modding any game the best advice I could give is to be measured.

I'd just use Co8 with Temple+.

I don't remember about those two :
Front-End-X 4.6
Orion's Ultimate Fixes

Played it with and without Co8 both times with Temple+.

My advice : don't play without Temple+ (don't create a troll or hill giant party member either * )

Co8 is nice for the font sizes but i'm not sure about the mod balance, some encounters are tougher but mostly, it's easier (like the hill giant in the battlefield up north 800 hp > 200 hp or so in Co8 = huge level gap )
I like how the vanilla game is unbalanced, it's really hard if you want to tackle some areas which are available from the beginning but are meant to be played later on or just some monsters in a regular area would be overpowered and offer an amazing challenge.

(*) Get the NPC Troll / Hill Giant in game if you want to try them as they don't have the same restrictions if you want to play them, a level 1 troll that gets level 2 with level 12 experience value is fun at first, then, it's not anymore and the hill giant can't pass some doors in the moat house, better to get the NPC in the temple later
fire temple side quest + don't kill him

P.S. Don't forget to run Temple+ setup and to take a good look at all the available options.

hill giant in the battlefield up north 800 hp

:what:
He is out of his mind. Hill Giants are 12HD monsters. 200 is already double what they normally have.

The one at Emerys Meadow is a normal hill giant with a grizzly pet. EL8-9 encounter. However, it has a glaring weakness, with a Will save of only +4. That means a bog standard level 1 Tasha's from a level 1 bard with 18 Cha will nail it 50% of the time.

Latest Temple+ is 1.0.64, so I'd at least grab that. It doesn't add content, but it lets you enable prestige classes and such through the configurator.

If you want to play a near purist run, use co8 3.0.4 instead of the latest, as it contains many of the fixes and far fewer content changes.

Other than that, I'm curious where you got that bundle. Seems a bit old?
