I was watching a gameplay video where someone was vaporizing all the items, there absolutely needs to be a button to automatically vaporize all the junk items, looks like such a pain in the ass to do it manually. Or even an option to vaporize automatically as you pick stuff up. Oh and a button to feed everything to the recycler too without drag and drop since you'll be doing that a lot.

Some audio logs are way too long and overly dramatized, the speaker takes long pauses and takes forever to say a few simple sentences. Also I think they went a little too overboard with some of the glitchiness when SHODAN talks.

you can shift-click at the recycler to automatically put an item into it at least. while a vaporize all junk item option would be nice it would also make it far too easy to just stock up on scrap/money, I mean it already kind of is but as it is you have to work for it lol

The game is agonizingly slow paced.
My main gripe with the demo was the long first person animations,

It's tragicomical how ADHD/impatient people are these days.
Bad design is bad design, no amount of strawmanning will change that.

So if you remove whales using the in-game store in CSGO and PUBG and Steam Deck since it's hardware and $400, then System Shock remake is #2 behind Street Fighter 6, at 2/3 the price based on revenue.

I'm seeing it as 5th as well. I could never imagine why codexers would want this to be successful. All it would lead to is a more streamlined System Shock 2 remake and finally a "dumbed down" System Shock 3. I don't view those as being inherently bad things but to the average codexer it's ass cancer. So why would you be happy about this being a top seller, hmm?

What is scrap used for? And what's the difference between it and credits?
Recycle scrap for credits, but it's just an inventory management tool because you get less credits out of it than most whole items. As the guy said above it's probably only really important on the hardest settings and maybe not even then, if it's been implemented like SS2.

If it's popular, then that should be a sign to developers that you don't need to dumb down games for them to be popular.

Yeah that's not how it works. When something becomes popular they don't look at why it was popular. They just try to find ways to make it even more popular which leads to streamlining and dumbing shit down. Tale as old as time.

Wait this game has a fail timer? You're shitting me...
Uh... yeah, just like in the OG game.
Okay so can I turn it off or do I need to get a refund? I don't play games that have that garbage. I play at MY pace.
the ten hour time limit only applies if you play it on the highest difficulty setting. you don't have to worry about it on easy or medium
Story 3, specifically. You can put the others to 3 for a "hard difficulty, but no time limit" option.

Also wow they increased it. In the OG it was 7. In the backer beta it was 5, which I worked out was doable, in part because they made time not pass in cspace. Guess they upped it to ten because PEOPLE KEEP FUCKING AROUND WITH RECYCLERS.

RatTower the recycler has an inventory. If youre going to use it, just open it and place the items you want it to eat in there.
I know. My issue with junk items and the recycler is that they are (depending on your playstyle) a potential source for dull busywork (which, as you say, wastes a lot of time).

If there is a room with, let's say, 3 or 4 big junk items, that take about 6 inventory slots each, those will probably fill your inventory. So you either make a trip to the recycler (if you know where it is) or you vaporize the stuff, basically halving its value. It makes sense design-wise cause you are supposed to balance inventory space with potential credits, I just think it's kinda annoying. Even if you make the decision to just vaporize everything on the spot you will spend plenty of time going through your inventory to produce scraps. So you are basically just fiddling with the menu (or constantly running errands).

The third option is of course to just largely ignore the whole feature. But as I said, I'm not sure yet if that's viable in the late game.

Yeah I also wonder if you can just ignore the janitor thing.

It is mostly there to support your vending machine needs like, vitality sims. There are enough credits around to buy the upgrades (or you even find them upgrades) if you explore throughly.

I'm loving the game but kinda amazed that they made the virtual world even more of a clusterfuck than the original. Other than that my only problem is game being to colourful with sneaky bloom everywhere.

Apparently the game has a 42 page manual

1685459850745555.jpg
Holy hell, this manual is a work of art. It's like picking up a "Visitor's Guide to the World Economic Forum" 50 years from now.

You can get it for free if you grab the 'System Shock Goodie Bag'-giveaway that's on GOG right now.

EDIT: A small excerpt from the TriOptimum timeline:

2016: Optimum Capital [TriOptimum precursor corporation] backs first CEO President of the United States.
2020: Optimum acquires the biggest pharma corporation in the world, "ChemCal".
2022: Optimum officially merges with Paragon [a military contractor] and ChemCal, rebrands to TriOptimum.
2024: MKV (Magic Kingdom Virus) pandemic sweeps around the world.
2026: TriOptimum creates and releases vaccine for MKV, free of charge.
2027-2029: The Great Merger. A 3-year period in which 18 megacorporations either absorb or destroy all other smaller corps.
2031: The Hays-Bishop Bill passes, allowing corporations whose employees make over 2/3rds of a region's population to form sovereign governments.

It gets worse from there, eventually leading to TriOptimum becoming a corporate singularity by 2059.

Still reading through the manual, this is more of a 84-page manual then 42, as each page is double.

There's a lengthy segment on SHODAN and how it operates, almost down to the code-level. One brilliant bit:

It isn't enough to have an adaptive learning system with ethics. If a system is to think like a human and carry a tremendous amount of responsibility, it must be emotionally accountable as well. The SHODAN system was given a battery of blind psychological examinations. Psychoanalysts evaluated the tests through a transcript and were unaware that the subject was Artificial Intelligence. The doctors were told the subject was Polish to offset the slightly broken syntax.

Believe me you can. I finished it on 3/2/3/3 in the backer beta without fucking with the loot at all.

IMO, it's the "vaporise" function that's the issue, not the recycler. If the recycler just accepted junk items (broken weapons, including the Assault Rifles, and the leftovers from using food items) it'd be fine - It's basically a thing you throw some loot into from time to time at the expense of some inventory space. Adding the ability to pick up and then turn all the useless decoration items into currency is where it goes wrong. I only ever bothered to scrap the actual junk and was able to finish the game on hard just fine.

So 51 people worked on System Shock Remake, while 30 worked on the original. Somehow they even managed to keep the development team the same size as it was in 1994. This is a 1:1 remake even in the development process, I think.
