I tend to prefer straight up tank and spank gear check encounters rather then the modern MMO fights which all seem to involve a new gig to learn. Quit WoW after every second boss fight involved the entire guild do Dance Dance Revolution all over the encounter room or die. People have mediocre connections, some people are elderly, why require this twitch crap and punish guilds that don't put all potential recruits through a grueling reflex test course?
I guess you're one of those people who still "stand in the fire" after 3 expansions :roll: I guess Bliz forgot about old people with mediocre connection.

TOR also requires DDR ... at least a bit since there are AoE spells powers and abilities you dont want to get hit by it, also I the 2nd boss fight of EV takes place on platforms that eventually sink into the lava, you have to leave then before then sink, 4th Boss is kinda like that too (floor collapses after a while, it does it twice so you have to jump down using the fallen platforms).

And there is the False Emperor ... you cannot win the fight without a certain trick when he goes to low health.

Well in the first place, tank and spank sucks. DDR style sucks too, but it's unfortunately the only way these devs will add challenge to raids, instead of improving AI or making more complex enemy combinations.

There is nothing but trinkets in the Collector's, so that's bullshit. The only the remotely interesting is the free speeder at level 25, but you get showered with credits at that point so it's not like you need it.

Collector’s Edition Store. At launch the Collector’s Edition Store will be available to those who have the Collector’s Edition of The Old Republic, and will feature items found nowhere else in the game! Regarding the game, pretty sure it has the most retarded and rage inducing (until you don't give a fuck anymore) "wheel" system from bioware games so far. Probably because they forced themselves to do too much content there are plenty of instances where the answer has nothing to do with what you clicked.
The pinnacle of this "feature" is if you try to play a light side char on empire because 90% of the vague responses turn into real psycho lines. For example, someone asks you to leave, you click "I'm not gonna leave" and the result is "I'm gonna leave your body as a calling card". Or you are sent in some mission to kill some bandits or rats or w/e, you chose "It's gonna be fun", result is "It's gonna be better than murdering children".

Blizzard tried. They had this one arena encounter in LK where you fought a number of random NPCs from the enemy faction that behaved like players in pvp, with focus fire, player abilities, CC, and all that. The result was noobs failed horribly at it, complained that they don't want pvp in their pve and Blizzard didn't pursue the idea further. Evidently players don't want advanced, unpredictable AI in their raids.

That being said, SWTOR's endgame is half broken right now, especially balance wise. Some flashpoints are easy, some are extremely hard, some are plain broken. And there's no rime or reason as to why one is easy and one is hard. For example for Hard more flashpoints the easiest is the Hard version of the lowest level flashpoint of the game, so far so good right? Well the second easiest is one of the very last Flashpoints of the game. The third is one of the middle ones, but it's end boss is currently broken where if you reach 10% his health while he's doing a specific channeled attack, he never goes to the next mode of the battle and so, never dies. Then there's a flashpoint where a miniboss is the hardest boss out of all the flashpoints. Randomness.

Not everything devolved into Heigen's Death Dance. Also, we're talking about 8 or 16 man raids; if you can't find that many people to raid with who aren't retards or playing on a P5-166 you aren't trying. Tank and spank gets old insanely fast, and has really no redeeming qualities to it. Why even bother raiding period if that's the extent of the content. Their raid content seems designed by people who really don't give a fuck tbh. The final encounter in the Eternity Vault also requires a tiny bit of reflexes, it's just the encounter is highly dependent on RNG to the point of being not fun at all. RNG in my opinion is a much worse mechanic than having something take split second timing or reactions.

I was actually good at it, but a lot of guildies weren't. I didn't really like having to do it though. We were never able to do Archimonde due to everyone having to be perfect and I think Lady Vashj due to not having the optimal classes.

I quit around time when the second raiding instance of WotLK opened up, so I guess my experience was solely with 25 man raids. I guess it would be easier with less, dunno. As to why raid Tank & Spank? Well I get my nuts off from getting better gear, so give me easy raids that give good gear and I'll run em until me and everyone that I run with gets all the gear.

WoW had, for the most part, a good mix of simple T&S and gimmicky fights, with the occasional exceptionally well designed encounter. The above mentioned Vashj and Archimonde being good examples of the latter.

To the first: Yes. I wager that this game has more C&C in it numerically than any other ever created. It's just that most of it is of no import at all. For example, I just chose to spare some dude instead of killing him - a choice that wasn't related to dark/light. The consequence? I was sent 0 credits instead of 500 (I have like 40,000 and I'm the poorest member of my guild at my level).

To the second: Nope, you won't have to restart unless you fail the quest somehow, and only the odd quest is even possible to fail.

The point is that I like seeing the same bosses go down twice as fast and seeing my DPS meter being twice as big as it used to. I don't get the same satisfaction from defeating an encounter with a bunch of tricks to it, just makes me think: well finally the rest of the guild learned how to dance to this fight exactly how the game designer wanted us to. Basically the difference between clearly seeing that my and other characters in guild have become more powerful and seeing that me and the rest of the players in the guild have become better at our twitch skills for that single encounter.

Happened a couple of times to get light instead of dark or have -x from companion, but mostly is just the sheer stupidity of it that's annoying. And yeah you have to restart quest (or conversation only by pressing escape if it wasn't last choice in it) if you don't like the outcome (light/dark gain or what happens next). But that's only if you care about what happened, the quests will be completable anyway.

Biggest issue though, only decent part are the class quests (with a couple of exceptions in some zone chains), trying to do more than one on each side is worse than deep roads 10 times in a row. The zones are huge and tedious and as linear as it gets and the morons didn't realize doubling the xp for example would allow people to alternate zones when leveling different chars.
And you can't just mindlessly kill shit just for the fun of it. The class mechanics are pretty convoluted (miriad of spells, boring talents etc - I think the class -> 2x advanced class designed did a lot of harm in that department). No flow and obviously "clunky" gameplay (it's Bioware though, I expected them to copy WoW and manage to fuck up the gameplay somehow) and later in the game the packs start to take longer and longer to kill.

Because I find it retarded to chose dialogue options based on icons and not text.
And I only care of the way the dialogue unfolds, I just noted you could get unexpected dark/light results.

Either way, the dialogue wouldn't be any less shit if I'd chose based on that.

It's a monster thread, so I'll briefly summarize. Someone noticed that there are additional assets running in the background of the game (there are always two iterations of swtor.exe running) that appear to have to do with rendering, and the theory, hotly debated, is that some form of DRM is being implemented in order to protect some of the game's graphical models. A BioWare rep has posted on the subject, basically debunking the whole thing, yet performance problems, mysterious ones at that, still abound, and people are pissed about it.

MMO's as usual, I guess.

Indeed, I've wondered at that often and I noticed the two swtor.exes today.

And I'm having multiple perfomance issues; eyes not displaying in dialogue, shadows being pixelated, extreme lag spikes. All this on a good internet connection and a monster PC.

EDIT: The BioDev's response is pretty in-depth and reasonable.
