The worrisome thing was the misuse (albeit unintentional) of information provided in confidence, no matter how small, coupled with a lack of any statement acknowledging that it was wrong and would not happen again. And yes that was worrisome, unless you're an idiot or don't plan to ever donate or give a shit about any of the people who donated.

This thread has eliminated that second part though. DU has admitted that it was the wrong thing to do, promised that it wouldn't happen again, and stated that in the future people acting like utter morons will just be banned instead. That's the best that anyone can really hope for or expect. Is it unreasonable if someone decides they can't trust the sincerity of the apology after the breach of trust? Not especially, but in the end there's nothing that they or DU can do about that. The damage has already been done, and it's not like DU can do anything to prove his sincerity beyond the shadow of a doubt over the internet (short of something overblown and retarded like providing hostages or some shit), so the only options are to either accept it as sincere and move on, or pack up and leave if they're still worried. DU seems to get this, as he's offered a way out for people who feel that way.

Personally I figure yes it was unintentional, and yes I do think DU genuinely intends to avoid it in the future, so I'm sticking around. If this sort of thing happened again, then yeah I'd reconsider.

Effectively doxxing someone (potentially with privileged information that I was entrusted with) even if that person has doxxed and has threatened to doxx other users, is not on.

I was pretty sure that you hadn't revealed the info out of malice, what worried me was that The Administration(tm) might resort to an ends justify the means approach with some users regarding doxxing, something I personally disagree with but also think wouldn't benefit The Codex in the long run. No, because I already told him it was me. Since DU wasn't awake to say it himself, I showed people what his statement on the matter was, given that he's said a number of times that he doesn't give a fuck if what he says in the "Contact Us" subforum is made public, and it was better to show people what actually happened than to let them keep theorizing about DU maliciously poring over financial records to find something to use against ironyuri.

Given that that post is what showed people that DU didn't do this intentionally, and that ironyuri went full bipolar on him after he did it, it hardly harmed his case, and instead put a stop to a lot of rumour.

The fact that it ended up on Twitter was unfortunate, but ultimately harmless.

I'm a big believer in free speech, even if that means I disagree with 92% of what gets posted on the Codex. While I might disagree with you, I believe you have a right to say it. But everything has limits. The best way to think of the Codex is like a pub. You're free to come in, buy a drink and chat about whatever you like with the other people you find here. As much as possible, we're not going to decide what is or isn't an inappropriate topic to talk about; or an inappropriate subject to joke about - and some of the stuff posted on the Codex is down-right offensive in that regard. But you're not allowed to trash the place, or get into a physical brawl with the other customers. Words are fine. You have rights, but your rights don't over-rule someone elses rights.
And as owners of the pub, we reserve the right to throw your ass out at any time, for whatever reason.
So while that freedom of speech has been tested over the years, as long as you keep a modicum of respect for each other, and keep that shit in the appropriate forum or thread, you generally won't have any trouble from The Management™.
