The real problem with the Codex is that this thread is going to have more pages than the new D:OS 2 feature.

This is a funny line, but I still feel a bit odd for fisting something by Infinitron. Like it's a pointless thing to do, throwing a single fist on a mountainous pile.

Then I start to wonder if all of our actions are as futile.

Then find myself smoking in a cafe. Strangely everything around me is black and white. As I open my mouth to as a passerby if they are experiencing this as well, my words come in a bad french accent.

Mon dieu, what ees happening to moi?

You're developing a condition known as "faggotry", very common among people that speak French. Soon you will feel the urge to write a PoE review, which will leak early, causing you to leave forever. And later you will return, ofc.

I hope next time you take immediate action and get rid of these problem users who are not here in any way at all to discuss RPG's or contribute anything to the codex DU. :salute:

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Don't know what strange land you live in, but here they put your name on the receipt and make a point to call you by it every time. It's fucking annoying, but puts things in perspective I guess.

In the supermarket? Really?

Over here in good old Germany I usually pay in cash, nobody gets to know my name, and the only words spoken are "X.XX Euros please" and "Thanks".

I wouldn't be able to stand the exaggerated friendliness in everyday interactions that you're plagued with in the US. Horrible shit.

Yes. This is common practice in the states at all the stores that use some sort of club card (i.e, most of them). As a private person, it grates on me every time. I like people I know, but goddamn, having actual strangers look down at the receipt every time to say my name just seems like the most pointless exercise. I just want to get my groceries and go home.

If you don't have a club card they wouldn't do this, but then you'd be hit with a 20-30% markup on all items and them soliciting you to get the card.

Shit like this is why WalMart, when they tried to establish themselves in Germany, failed horribly. The shoppers were annoyed by greeters and staff that was invasive in its helpfulness, so they just said fuck it and went to normal German supermarkets where you're left alone and the only time any staff will say something is when you ask them something.

I think it grates on almost everyone. Just not enough for us to stop going to the store. For .00000000000001% of people, it's awesome and they love it. This makes it a net plus for the company even though nearly everyone hates it.

Capitalism FTW baby.

It made it a huge net minus for the company here in Germany because the competition didn't have it, so everyone except for that .00000000000001% of people who think it's awesome didn't go there.

Capitalism FTW baby.

I though Germany was full of commies. Worker's Councils in the management of your corporations, social welfare programs etc. Sounds a bit like a glorious people's victory to me.

I'll try and do the best I can to keep the Codex an eclectic mix of free speech, oddball community nature, and open discussion about topics by users that would probably make plenty of people elsewhere shudder.

And you doing it well, Tony! I feel like "at home" here, and love this place already! This place is definitely if not unique, than definitely an exception from rules.

I, Long John (really long) try to control myself and not post bullshit about politic or cultural difference (which even can be more offensive), which I as Russian Orthodox who honor Stalin have in enormous quantities.
I even try to contribute to this place and people here, made some thread about RPG and such...

PS Also this repentance-thread make me want to know - do you guys, have a thread about how someone can leave a minimal trace in internet?
A week ago I wanted to buy AoD and Underrail finally, but I found that if I'l use plastic\cred card, this leave to people unknown to me all full info about me, and we all know that info leaked in internet stay there forever.

There are tons of prepaid debit cards you can get that can have any made-up name (or not) attached to them.

The real reason for their failure were other issues. They rented the wrong inner-city venues for their business model and made many management errors, like insisting on negotiating with their German suppliers in English, trying to dictate their buying prices for food despite having a negligible market share in that field and, last but not least, ignorance regarding German labor laws. Their death followed a law suit by some trade unions. It was a big management debacle.

Anyway, in the US you get used to plastering your identity all over the place and get your credit card info stolen all the time. Although the latter is usually a painless issue.

Is it possible to live without a credit card in the US? I don't even have one, and except for the stuff I do via online banking, I only use cash. The US seems so credit card fixated that not having one could be difficult.

Sure. If you never want to fly or rent a car, go ahead. You probably also have to pay a hotel in advance, plus some extra deposit. However, credit cards make life easier. I hardly ever used cash when I lived there. Most of the time, I didn't have more than a $20 note on me. American wallets don't even have any space for coins. You only need cash for some small bakeries in some of the old cities.

Only been to a few parts of Europe, but where I have been the posted prices tend to include tax, so figuring out exact change before you're at the register is easy.

In America, it never includes tax so using coins for correct change generally means holding up the line while you figure out if you've got 53 cents in your pocket, which is considered borderline rudish (not quite rude, but disfavored). I'm guessing that's why coins are kind of ignored in America.

Many people just throw the coins in the garbage. All those copper coins are a bit of a problem in garbage treatment.

I forgot to mention that credit card usually also give you cash back, so it's cheaper to use them. Not by much, but a few hundred dollars per year is better than nothing.
