They should really stop making FPS rpgs. They suck.

1. Get new loot, it's a cool gun.
2. Shoot new gun at dude in a t-shirt
3. Dude dies after fourteen full mags
4. Throw away gun, uninstall game

Typical FPS RPG content. The problem is that standard RPG mechanics like high HP and armor don't work with FPS games. Nobody wants to shoot a gazillion flesh tank enemies except consoomers.

Proper FPS RPG combat difficulty should come from options, tactics and AI. Not just numbers go up.

But those are difficult and don't make money. It's the reason why FPS AI hasn't improved significantly since FEAR/Half Life 2.

They don't work in any RPG. I don't want to have to hit someone with a sword 20 times before they die (unless it's something big and powerful like a dragon). HP bloat is a universal nuisance.

A futuristic sci-fi cosmos where humans remain the only rationally ensouled creatures is implicitly Christian. Sure, you can make your Type 1 they/them body sway and sashay like a girl; Todd, like God, permits his children to choose sin and death if they so wish. Deus vult, Todd.

the starfield prerelease leaker was black.

Black

Black Rock

it's a coordinated hit campaign

BG3's "success" is even more suspicious when you consider that D&D is in such a bad state due to OGL legal issues, Spelljammer literally being a booklet with no rules in it, and removing race (!) from a fantasy game that most players were willing to switch to Pathfinder. You're telling me Honor Among Thieves bombed but Baldur's Gate 3 is more popular than the missionary position? Bullshit

really? game sends me to fight cool aliens for the first time instead of boring humans all the time only 75% into the main quest? sheesh.

Starfield-9-9-2023-11-34-13-PM.png

And every Xenomorph, no matter the level.

didn't kill one yet, I went back to Kreet to kill the one you encounter early in the game but he wasn't there anymore :(

people are saying starfield is at its best doing cargo delivery quests like Death Stranding. as long as the gameplay is good modders can fix whatever dumb bullshit bethesda shipped with the game
who said that? I always thought the death stranding mail delivery was a cool concept. imagine having to do that in an RPG.. you come out of the dungeon loaded with treasure and you have to carry it all back to town, but then it falls into a fast moving river and is swept away, while being chased by a mummy man

Do the Vanguard questline, your first mission is to go help some girlboss (even though she's a clone of a man) that's stuck in a colony that got wiped out by one, which you have to kill. (Definitely no relation to any classic film btw ). Shortly afterward, 3 will attack New Atlantis and you get to use all the ammo you have on them.

You basically play through the whole Aliens/Prometheus franchise.

Even outside the quests, you can go to Londinium or whatever any time, it's CRAWLING with them outside the UC base.

Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Nice retard fight ITT.

Witcherino 3 vs Nu-Bethesda. Hard to decide which has the more cancerous approach to open world gameplay, but tending towards Bethesda as Witcher 3 at least had decent story, banging OST, a compelling setting and wasn't full of niggers.

Witcher 3 is high fucking art compared to this pile of shit. That is how far and steep the decline has gotten since 2015. Comparing Starfield to Witcher 3 is like comparing Tupac Shakur to Beethoven. Do I need to break out the American Culture is centered around niggers copy-pasta meme? Because it has never been more relevant than it is in this game. EVERYONE in charge is a negro. I'm 30 hours in and its omnipresent. CEOs, chief scientists, corporate traders, doctors, space pirate warlord (that one may be accurate), starfleet captains, etc. all black.

But why do they allow this? Because the American culture is centered around niggers. They have holidays for niggers. They killed hundreds of thousands of white men to free niggers. They listen to nigger music. They elect a nigger as their president. They dress and act like niggers. They draw the entirety of their modern culture from niggers. They post sassy gifs about niggers. They watch sportsball in worship of niggers. Their biggest event of the year involves throwing parties in honor of niggers playing sports. They use nigger slang like "bruh" and "thot". When you say "Martin Luther" they're not thinking of the father of protestantism. They're thinking of the nigger. Their cities are completely overrun with niggers. They worship their ZOGbot police force disproportionately filled with niggers and their global police force of soldiers filled with niggers. Their men sit around watching nigger ball while their women sit around watching nigger talk shows. They worship niggers like Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson and the late Mike Tyson while attacking the whites who actually built their country before niggers took over. Their movies are filled with niggers and their music charts are topped by niggers. They send niggers to the Olympics and celebrate when the niggers win because those niggers are true red blooded american niggers. They watch nigger porn to a point where "BBC" does not make them think of an international media company but about nigger penises instead. They will tell you how much they hate niggers and how the mutt's law meme is a stale joke and they are just pretending to love niggers but the evidence speaks for itself in that America has always been and will be a nation of nigger loving niggers.

When I get a hostile enemy.. and I dump a full mag into it and it's health bar moved a sliver.. I generally reload and walk another direction.. It's not difficult.. it's boring.

Bethesda combat is at it's best when your sneaking around one shot backstabbing things.
In Fallout 4 there was a mod that made enemies do 10x more damage to you and you did 10x more damage to them. On survival mode, the game is actually tolerable with this mod - it feels great when a few bullets kills everything except robots and deathclaws.

Starfield hasn't been that bad yet gunplay wise.. nothing feels too spongey except giant dinosaurs and robots, and the space ghosts, also thank god they removed that retarded fucking "MUTATION UPGRADE SUPER SAYIN BRUH" mechanic after Fallout 4.. holy fuck even for Bethesda that shit was dumb.

--

EDIT
Actually now that I think about it.. they have a new system with like little armor plates that represent "extra" health bars or something.. I've only seen it on bosses that appear to be really heavily armoured.. but that's dangerously close to "oh fuck off I'm modding that out" territory.

I am typically able to kill a couple normal enemies on a single mag (and up to half a dozen easy lower level enemies), and even tougher enemies rarely take more than 1 mag to take down.

I am playing normal, so maybe hard really amps up the enemy HP. But normal doesn't have this problem.

Charles Darwin's 'Origin of Species' is one of the most valuable books in the game. I don't know if whoever set the prices for the books in game did that to send some kind of subtle message or not.

Finally somebody talking some sense. Options, tactics and AI totally absent from most Bethseda games (haven't played them all). Level/item scaling in any game is the pits (TBH Witcher 3 was guilty of item scaling too however mods overcame this -> post that mod and Ghost Mode the game is epic levels of fun).

The best games either did not make a bucket load of money but were actually innovative and interesting (even if not graphically) and i am 100% sure presented myriad developmental difficulties -> BAK (again), ToEE (again), VTMB, Deus Ex (original) et al. Even pure innovation is better than regurgitating the same drivel with non impactful incremental changes ala Starfield-> indies come to mind Underrail, Majesty Sim, Thea at al. -> just take a chance and do something different.

Or even better take a measured chance ala Witcher 3/CyberPunk 2077/Wasteland 2, Gears Tactics, still do something significantly different or unique and make a bucket load of money in the process and potentially create something genre defining.

I've been trawling back trough the thread and the character models are next level ugly

Why didn't Starfield go bold and do something graphically akin to this post? It would have looked fresh and taken the aforementioned developmental leap. It just looks like all veteran developers (looking at Toddler/ Cain, Boyarsky (Outer Worlds) are just jaded now and looking to make a quick mega buck.

Lacks any imaginations, the game feels like 1970 in space. There is zero scifi in it,just space ships lol. It lacks any creativity, the level design really suffers from it.
Bethesda should have fully embraced retro-futurism and made a game that looks like Syd Mead artwork:

syd_mead_concept_art_x5fn0.jpg

Is item/level scaling truly decline though? I fuzzily remember item/level scaling was a thing from the 90's too so how about not repeating the mistakes from the past?

Sorry there's no disagreement for past Bethesda games though in my book -> all decline. Was hoping Startranny would be something different but alas it appears not to be (at least for now sans mods).

Would retard your posts back Vic but alas i have not donated the requisite $5 USD to the magnanimous and benevolent overlords of RPGCodex to achieve such a feat. Unless the fates and @DarkOverLord (edit: whoops that should be DarkUnderLord!!!) in his infinite wisdom perchance would see fit to grant me this small token? Have i grovelled enough to qualify?

It's more noticeable in shooters.

Turn-based is better because HP there is an abstraction.

Even with a first person sword fight, its more forgivable because of armor and the reality of melee. If you've ever seen two armored HEMA dudes duke it out, then you can get the sense that combat usually is a struggle.

But when you're head-shotting some regular dude with a gun and it does a sliver of damage, that's really bad. Not to mention the AI is usually brain-dead.

Maybe that's why it does less damage.

Oh fuck off game. After 2 days I get back to try it a bit more and in first 5 minutes it soft locks and forces me to load a save. How? I talked to robot to try to enter trade with him and some creatures attacked and whole UI disappear and I cannot do anything except watch robot circle strafe attackers while not attacking.. Bethesda must have worst possible QA on the planet..

Metal Gear is like that, phenomenal games. I just don't understand how that's going to work in an rpg. Because there's no really building of your character properly in an fps rpg. Unless you build for stealth gameplay, everything is going to feel bullet spongey. You just don't feel the proper impact of character building in an FPS rpg.

There are no great games that are FPS RPGs (besides New Vegas which still has VATS and the combat is the worst part.) They are two different styles of games that don't synergize.

It's not my wheelhouse but if I were to take a stab at it, progression would revolve around new combat options rather than just the usual +5% crit with handguns nonsense.

With a sci-fi setting, it's super easy. You can mess around with optical options (zoom, night vision, heat-seeking), improved reflexes (slow-mo) AI-assisted tracking (smart bullets), gun-fu moves (dual-wielding, target assist while doing parkour).

And you can increase the effectiveness of these as you level up in their use.

Enemies instead of gaining more health could also become deadlier, use these things against you, or just more of them.
