Sonic 3 is stage design porn. Yeah it's got gimmicks, but most of them are meaningful and add to the sense of speed and excitement, they're not just there for the sake of it.
I disagree. I want to do something fast and exciting. I don't want the game to do it and make me watch. It's the same reason I don't like Glory kills in Doom Eternal. Gives ME the tools to be exciting, don't make me watch the game do it and expect me to feel invested. I'm not a cuck, I like to do things for myself not to watch some other dude do it.

But it doesn't. Stuff like the spinning tops and conveyer belts need to be timed and controlled correctly to get the maximum time saving from them.

I'm not autistic enough to care about how fast or effectively I finish a level. I care about the experience and I think Sonic after 3 (knuckles is actually better in this regard but that's an exception) has become too gimmick based. They want to make sonic into a meme of himself going SUPER FAST ALL THE TIME and finding ways to make the game play its self. Speed used to be part of the pacing but it was never the only things the game had. Green hill and spring yard is mostly fast while Marble zone and starlight are much slower. I enjoy levels like Marble Zone and I think modern sonic would replace it with an on rails hold right to go fast segment instead.

Generations did 2D pretty well but it also seems to have been forgotten now so eh. Sonic fanbase seems to want self playing games and Sega are increasingly ruining their games to appeal to them sadly.

I actually think Sonic is at its best when it's serious. That's why SatAM had so much better writing than everything else.
I agree. It's the same with all entertainment; I prefer it takes itself seriously, and you can just suspend your disbelief about the fantastic element.

That's why adults still enjoy some cartoons or things aimed at younger audiences; Zelda for example, which is ostensibly for a young age group.

"Sonic the Comic" in the UK took the plot and world-building pretty seriously, so even though there was humour, the band of animal freedom fighters were painted as essentially a group of anti-Robotnic resistance fighters, on the run, in a world occupied by Robotnik's badnik forces; it was written by 2000 AD veterans. There was a sense of real geography, with Metropolis Zone being the capital of Planet Moebius, and the world being split into Zones rather than countries. I'm not really into Sonic these days, as I either kept up with, or moved onto, other entertainment franchises like Star Trek and Star Wars, but I can totally see why some adults still follow it as a hobby.

Why does it have to be one or the other? As a kid I enjoyed Sonic the comic along side the cute Mega drive games. There were serious stories along side silly ones in Sonic the comic. You had streets of rage (I think it even had blood) next to sillier stories like D cap attack and I think Tails has a more comedic tone in his fantasy comic.

Sonic's problems are only made worse now the lunatics are running the asylum with Sonic. Sonic doesn't have characters in a way that need depth. Sonic adventure is pushing the characters to breaking point already and there never needed to be more than that. Sonic needs a reason to fight, Tails needs to make a flying machine, knuckles needs to be broody but help when the stakes get too high and Amy needs to swoon over Sonic. Literally nothing is needed beyond this and any time you try to get deep with Sonic you end up shitting the bed. Mario gets it's characters right, they're mascots to be used for various games, not story telling.
The issue is that Sanic characters don't have enough personality in the games, yes. You could make it work in a comic or a show as you have more space to develop them somewhat. In Frontiers, part of the dialogue is a literal checklist, especially in Tails' case, as he's been stuck as a 8 years old for ages and the game tries to adress that and fails (because he's not allowed to grow up).
Amy is all about swooning over Sonic, but she doesn't do that much in Frontiers and it feels awkward.

Alternatively, have unique characters develop and grow compared to Sonic's more static crew. That would work better in a rpg, of which Sonic has... One, and it sucked.

"Sonic the Comic" in the UK took the plot and world-building pretty seriously
Except when it didn't, but this example works.
Not sure what to say about the newest comics. I skimmed some issues and they're okay, but the art feels too clean due to using digital tools. It's also quite schizo as the canon characters must remain static, while the comic ones don't have to. So, you have a bad guy torturing a kid for ages to turn him into a traumatized clone of Tails... While Tails himself is fine despite having being fighting Eggman for years.

I prefer entertainment that doesn't however outright subvert and cuck itself with an inability to take itself seriously.
So, Marvelitis.

So you're playing Sonic games....NOT to "Speedrun" the levels? Dude, that's the whole point of the games. Playing them just to beat them is only layer 1. Yeah, if you don't care how those gimmicks get you to where you have to go then you can just sit back and let a lot (although not all) of them carry you further. But play the game how it's designed to be played, and it's a different class.

If you play games in the beginner way, then you're gonna feel like a beginner and they will feel simple.

Yeah Marvelitis is one way to put it. The issue isn't really a Marvel thing; it's been around a long time. Rather it's that kinda post-modern "can't ever take itself seriously for one moment" thing that people like JJ Abrams or Taika Waititi do. For a video game comic about talking animals, once you accepted that conceit, it was a story about a technological surveillance-state regime, with a drone army, putting native Moebians in gulags and constructing superweapons. Broke up the seriousness a bit with some satire.

So you're playing Sonic games....NOT to "Speedrun" the levels?
I'm not an autistic transexual. I'm sorry you fell into the speedrunning cult but please get help and try to enjoy a game for what it is instead of fake achievements on websites full of suicide risks.

I mean, speedrunning Sonic existed before the internet, it's literally how the game is designed to be played. The whole concept was based on playing Mario's 1st level over and over and that's what inspired the idea. But if that cope helps you feel better about not being able to play it properly fair enough.

Sonic was never about speed the way you imply it was. Sonic has bursts of speed but it also has slow paced sections. Marble zone is full of crushers and slow moving blocks you need to ride. Sonic has segments designed to go fast while mixed in with slower paced not precise platforming. Sonic also has multiple paths to explore and some of them are slower and have more items to collect while others are quick and lack shields or extra lives.

I genuinely don't like the "sonic is about going FAST" meme. It's utterly destroyed Sonic as a series for decades now. Sonic was a well balanced platformer with fast sections. It wasn't all Sonic was and as more weight is put on going fast more is lost in quality platforming.

You don't know very much do you?

1. Sonic The Hedgehog Was Inspired By Super Mario Speedrunning

"Back then, games didn't allow you to save your progress. So when you wanted to play Super Mario Bros., you always had to start from World 1-1.You could use the Warp Zones to skip many of the other levels, but you always had to play through World 1-1. Doing so eventually became kind of tedious, so I always tried to get through the level as fast as I could. And that inspired the initial concept for Sonic The Hedgehog."

But yeah, I'm sure my mates who used to work at SEGA test aren't credible sources either.
My Dad works at nintendo too.
That explains why you're so bad at Sonic games.

Very worrying that you had such a video on hand within minutes of my post. I didn't even know they existed.

I refuse to believe you're not aware of troons obsession with Sonic and speed running. They're both autism magnets and we know where autism leads.

Whatever you believe, having videos like that to hand is an admission of your own tranny fetish.

Don't remember the comic well. But I just don't think Sonic should be serious. His design is kiddy or was until they tried too hard to make him cool and ended up making him lamer. I don't care for that look in the bottom-left. Too determined. That's not Sonic. The Sonic anime OVA had the right art style and tone, but Knuckles had the stupid hat and it didn't have an amazing story.

Just noticed the private tracker site I use has the Sonic the Hedgehog TV series. Will check it out to see if it has the right balance. Haven't watched it since I was a kid. I rather enjoy Adventures of Sonic. C+ so far. Don't care what GhostCow and Clockwork Knight have to say. They'd probably call serious face/pissed off Sonic up there ideal. As a kid, I remember finding Sonic the Hedgehog much better than Adventures of Sonic, but we watched both a lot.

Completing levels quickly and going super fast are two different things. And what about Labyrinth Zone? It's slow but also has a built-in fuck you go fast or die timer called drowning. crazy i know

I would say it's less that Sonic is strictly and only 'about speedrunning', but rather that speedrunning is the scoring of the game. Like most arcade games, you can just play for survival, and probably should to start with, but once you're familiar with the game you can play for score (or speed). But you seem pretty retarded so I'll just assume you don't know what an arcade is.

When you finally leave your Mega drive maybe you will discover what a search engine is. The most iconic sonic fan in history is a transexual mother fucker..

Why do you have to play for score or speed? What's wrong with playing for the enjoyment of the gameplay? For the fun of finding different paths or secrets you missed before? I spent enough time in arcades to know they were full of pedophiles, drug dealers, half the machines didn't work and the kids who constantly went there were niggers unable to afford a home console because they fed all their money into arcade machines. They were something you put 1 credit into, got as far as you could then walked away because anything else was burning money you could buy on an actual game at home for your console.
