Runes can be bought through IP only, so money usually only go for skins which is pretty useless but still kind of cool if you want to support developer. You can also buy IP boosts and rune pages but I really didn't need any of that. I allready have about 30 champions and few rune pages so if I decide to spend money it will be due to "support the developer" desires.

Also, Nocturne is out on EU today. He's pretty fun so far. Blinking from out of the fog of war, going OOGA BOOGA and traing peoples faces off.

Out of sick curiosity, did you blow those 100 euros on cosmetics only or runes too?

Because it's quite hilarious how everybody says Lol is free and then claim they have spent 'oh not much, like 50 bucks' on it :)

Mind you, I know you don't have to. Just supporting the developer you like I guess.

No runes, only cosmetics or new champs. If I could buy runes it would be better, cause pretty much when I save some IP I get a new champ, and its a fucking grind to get to the 6000 IP when you get 70-120 IP per win. I only have 2 main rune pages and to build a third one would take like 2-3 months atleast to gather 15-20 000 IP. And Im way to fucking lazy for that, its still just a game afterall.

Christ, son! 100 euros!?

For that, you could've gotten both the champ bundles, a rune page bundle and still have moolah left over for a pimpin' skin or two. Given how many free IP boosts EU has gotten of late, how can you not have enough IP for runes?

Personally, I've sunk 60 euros into LoL. I consider this quite cheap, considering I've been playing regularly since closed beta. Several of the people I play with haven't paid anything at all for the game. They usually play a smaller selection of champions - often the free champs of the week - but are still able to play competitively in ranked. At the moment, I have maxed rune pages, pretty much all the runes I need to play the champs I know and every champion except Trundle, Garen, Vladimir and Gragas unlocked. At the present rate, I amass IP faster than they release new champions, even at 6300 IP price points, so pretty soon I'll have every champion unlocked (even though I only play 20 or so with any regularity). Leftover IP usually goes towards runes for messing about.

The trick to runes is getting the most versatile ones first. Step 1 is not buying any runes at all until you can get tier 3 runes at level 21. No reason to get lesser runes at all, since you're goign to be facing scrubs until you hit lv30 anyhow. Next up, unless you play some ridiculusly specific build (like jungle akali), there are runes that are good for just about everyone.

Quintessences: Flat hp. Seriously. they're good on just about any champ.
Marks: Armor Penetration, Magic Penetration. Optionally Attack Speed if you jungle a lot.
Seals: Mana Regen/Level, Flat Armor. Optionally dodge, but flat Armor is usually better
Glyphs: Cooldown reduction, MR/Level. Optionally attack speed if jungling.

The above runes are good on just about any champion. If you haven't got a ton of rune pages, keeping your page viable for multiple champions will save you a lot of headaches if someone picks your favourites. When deciding to get a rune that comes in "-flat" and "-per level" flavours, usually go with whichever rune will give you the best benefit by level 8. If the per-level hasn't caught up with the flat by then, just stick to the flat rune. Notable exception being flat hp quintessences, which are awesome for preventing you from getting killed for the first 2-4 levels and conceding first blood.

For starter runes, I reccomend 3x flat hp quints. 9x (mag/ar)Pen marks (depending on the damage type of your favourite champions), 9x flat armor/mana regen/level seals and 9x cooldown glyphs.
That page will work for just about everyone except a few specific junglers.
First investment after that is gettign whichever kind of mark (armor pen/magic pen) you didn't get first, folowed by whichever kind of seal you didn't get to account for manaless/mana hungry champs.

I got the collectors and the champ pack. Rest is just new skins and 2 or 3 champs I bought on accident by pressing the wrong button. Ip is spent mostly on new champs. I got like 58 or something.

My runes are pretty much like you described, Armpen/Magpen, cdr, mana regen and flat HP.
Pretty much running with Utility tree with some changes in other trees.
Starting with 600+ HP Pantheon running at 391 speed and 10%cdr and Ignite/Exhaust at level 1 is a nasty sight. Pretty much guaranteed first killing spree on TT.

I was thinking about building some quirky builds so I'll need some all new runes and THAT will take a while.
Like Attack speed/Crit Blitz, Total HP/Armor Maokai, Crit/movespeed Mundo, Magpen/AP Galio,Tank Veigar and so on.

Cool, we got another 4 IP win boost for some reason. Starting to save up for my crit build, eventho Blitz is pretty much Sheen+anything else. Not all that item dependant. But it should be fun starting with 10-15% crit chance+zeal+yoummus blade and bezerkers for some cheap roflstomp.

Maokai was a tricky one to figure out, but maxing Q first makes for alot easier early-mid game, instead of maxing E. W-Q-E-Ignite combo does some decent damage early. Could be on par with Malphite's level 6 combo.

I so want Catlyn, god damn she's fun to play. Right now I'm saving up to 6300 (i'm at 3550 or something), at which point I'll either get Catlyn, Ezreal or Renekton. I'm thinking more on the first hero, since I'm not too sure I'll do as good a job with Ezreal, and since I'm pretty tired of playing tanks. (lately I've played only with Nasus, Mordekaiser, Mundo and Ryze (not a tank I know))

You know who else if fun? Lux is. I've been maining her for a month or even longer, but shooting lasers in people faces every 25 seconds is fun. Also she farms like crazy. Even after nerfing her AP ratio in last patch didn't hurt her much. If you like casters who relies on combos with their spells you should try her.

Cool, we got another 4 IP win boost for some reason.
Some people had issues with installing last patch and they had to wait for hotfix (or reinstal the game) to get the LoL working. To compensate, Riot gave all players 4 win IP boost.

I play mostly only tanks, off-tanks. Not much choice left when 3 guys instalock their squishy and type "whos going tank". And then i pick a tank and build a troll build, AP Grag, manamune/sheen Alistar and so on.
Only really tanking with Malph and Galio, tho very offensive playstyle with Ignite/Flash. Malph is rock solid early game, imo one of the few champs that can easily 1vs2 and still get a kill at 6 with no trouble.

Caitlyn is indeed quite fun. You should be fairly warned though that if you hit ELO 1300+, she becomes lacklustre after lv 13 and near useless compared to other ranged carries by the lategame. It can be fustrating to be rendered obsolete if you're th eonly ranged AD on your team. That said, if you have fun with her regardless that's what really matters. Ezreal is very similar in playstyle to Caitlyn. He's supposedly better in the lategame, but I see so many crap Ezreals around I've taken to calling him EzFail. If you're already playing a lot of Nasus, Renekton is very similar (although slightly more active and can't jungle). In most cases where you'd pick a Renekton, you can grab Nasus instead and your team will have roughly the same benefit.

Lupus_ said:

Agreed. Shooping da whoop can be immensely satisfying. I just can't get over that Lux is what happens when Riot decides to steal all of Morganas abilities. Make them easier to use (skillshot snare hits 2 targets so it's harder to creepblock, AoE damage ability also slows and reveals vision, shield targets multiple allies, ultimate doesn't require her to stand in the middle of the enemy team when the rest of her abilities work from range). And add as many 4chan memes as they can cram into annoying squeaky-girl voice files.

If you want tanks, jungling as Rammus, laning as shen (or jungling if you're VERY patient) or running around like a crazy motherfucker on crack-cocaine with singed can't be beat. You don't NEED a tank per se (although having one helps). If you want to be doing damage, you can also opt for tanky dps like xin xiao, irelia, trundle or Trinity force nasus. As long as one person on the team has enough beefiness to survive initiating the teamfight, you're golden. I've won games with Nidalee, Sona and Yi built as tanks before. (AP/Tanky yi meditating through a teamfight was silly fun). Morgana makes a surprisingly potent tank against teams with 4 or 5 AP heroes. Her ultimate is akin to a delayed version of Amumus ult, and her shield + some hp, mr, armor and AP makes her very, very hard to kill.

Picking her in ranked as anything but your teams last pick is suicide. Crowd Control - any crowd control - shuts her ult down hard. Any champ with a pushback, a silence or a stun laughs at katarina in teamfights.

Now having won about ~900 Games with 165+ wins above losses I must say: Does Riot even think when creating a champion?

Okay so there is Nocturne, Global ultimate that fucks up almost all support heroes, incredibly long jump ( that also does damge), spellshield (!), 2 (!) attack speed increases, movespeed increase, damage increase, lifesteal, motherfucking Cleaving attacks and a fear. Also his Duskbringer triggers Wriggles.

Oh and he can also jungle like a boss.

Now that would be okay if he was incredibly squishy, which he is. Then I see a nocturne rush a Randuins and still do incredible amounts of damage.
Tanky dps metagame at it's best.

€: Still playing on both EU and US, mostly on US tho. If you want to play some games, add Cenote.

Yes, they think: If we make this new guy cost 6300 IP and let him destroy everyone, people will either have to farm IP for weeks or shell out the $5 for the new champion. And since winning that IP will be a might difficult when you're constantly losing to him, they'll just shell out the $5. Cha-ching! We just covered server costs for the next three months. And when those three months are up, we'll nerf him, just in time for the sparkley new assassin.

WoTC has been doing something similar with Magic: The Gathering for years. They ramping up the power curve so old players are destroyed by new cards, then errata said cards after you've bought the packs, usually in time for a new set.

The only real difference I can see is that there's no "Type II" in LoL. You're free to play whichever champions you like, unlike M:TG, which phases out sets after a year or so. That, and if you try to buy booster packs with IP the manager will laugh at you.

Must be a US-type thing. Nocturne is quite common on EU too, but most players can handle him. I see nocturnes that do well, but just as many that do crap. So far, a good/bad nocturne has had no bigger effect on a game than, say, a good/bad akali.

Mind you, I usually play 5-man premades where at least 3 of us - often all of us - have some form of CC. When the screen turns purple, we're ready to smartcast a stun/fear/taunt on stuff that comes flying. They may as well rename Nocturnes ultimate to "Suicide Button for Aspergers Kiddies"

IMO, they should remove Nocturnes spellshield and he should be fine. Not all champs have disables and lots of disables are on good cooldown, so he could have still some ganking power. When he ulties, run into a bush and he cant do shit. Or just flash out when he comes close. Just pwned one with Blitz this morning on TT. Mess up his early game a bit and hes toast. Just another squishy IMO, like Miss Fortune, Ez, Caitlyn and so on. om nom nom

Well yeah, most people don't build any defense on him whatsoever so I usually just roll my economyplank and shoot them in the face when they try to gank. Still, in the hands of a good player he becomes a machine to reckon with. In 5 man premades with vent/ts/mumble he is often not that good, that is true.

Holy shitfuck Katarina is fun! I used to play her quite a lot until she got nerfed to the ground back in, what, september 2010 or so. I know she's been buffed since then. I just never got around giving her another try. I'd never pick her in ranked (unless I was last pick and my opponents had no hard CC), but she's quite fun in normal games.

Lately, I've been cursed with terrible teammates. I went on a 20-game losing streak with raging kiddies, leavers and 0/12/0 feeders on my team every game. Since my ELO plummeted, I figured I might as well pick random champs until stuff started going my way again. Out of 16 games with Kat, I won 13. Most of them I carried my team hard too. My monstrous success with her went like this:

My rune page is Mpen reds, flat armor yellows, cooldown blues, flat hp Quints. 9/21/0 masteries (Getting magic pen in offensive). Ignite+teleport works well for me. You could conceivably swap teleport for flash or ghost, but I like the extra map mobility from TP. Exhaust is also an option, but since Kat wants to get an early(ish) rylais, the slow is not too important after the early game.

Go mid if at all possible. Start with bouncing blade, then prioritize R > E > Q > W, with a single rank in W at level 4 or 8 depending of who you're up against.

For items, I grab Dorans Shield out of the box. On the first back, I'll grab boots and an amplifying tome. Second back, I'll upgrade my amplifying tome to a soulstealer if things are going well or a haunting guise if I'm not getting lots of kills. I'll also grab a second amplifying tome. Third back, I'll upgrade my boots to either Mercury Treads or Lucidity and finish my haunting guise if I haven't already built it. Then I build rylais, starting with giants belt. After rylais, I'll usually build either hextech revolver->will of the ancients, needlessly large rod->robe & wizard hat or negatron cloak->banshees veil depending on the makeup of my opponents team. Ignore the scrubs who want you to get gunblade. For the gold to benefit ratio, there's virtually no gain going from hextech revolver to gunblade, and you've so many other items that are more useful (rabadons, void staff, banshee's) after you finish your core with rylais that you'll never need it. Heck, the only time I ever build the hextech revolver is when I get poked a lot and CBA to bluepill to heal.

Haunting guise om Kat is truly a hidden gem. Red magic pen runes and a haunting guise will drop most champions magic resistence to 0 (or very close), meaning you won't need to get any other MPen unless they start stackign magic resist (in which case you sell haunting guise and grab a void staff lategame). On top of that it's fairly cheap, gives you AP and HP, and allows you to skip sorcerors shoes in favour of the far more useful merc treads or lucidity boots.

Against most champions, Kats laning is ridiculously good. Shunpo+ bouncing blade combos are great for harassing your opponent, and the active from killer instincts helps reduce retaliatory damage if you open with shunpo. She's also one of the few champions who can handle Urgot somewhat comfortably, as shunpo will allow her to flash out of his green poop with a 100% success ratio if she saves it for this. A few champions can be problemetic, (A good kennen is always a pain. Kassadins null sphere can mess with your harrass, a good vlad will also annoy you), but dangerous champions are mostly a problem in the respect that you won't get early kills on them rather than them being able to keep you from farming your lane.

Teamfights are dead simple. Killer Instincts->Shunpo->Bouncing Blade->Death Lotus. If you can get 2 kills/assists and have a blue buff, your maxed Cooldown reduction and passive means Death Lotus is now ready again. So KI->Shunpo->Death Lotus again to clean house. The real trick is to position yourself somewhere out of sight and wait until everyone else is engaged before flashing in to spin, since any halfway decent player is going to blow all of his crowd control on you when you start spinning. Against teams with lots of AoE CC, I've had moderate success with standing on the other side of a wall or inside a bush and ulting to cover half the teamfight area. In a pinch however, once everyone's engaged, you an usually pop in and get an ult off before the enemy notices you, so long as they didn't see you prior to the teamfight so their attention is on another squishy.

Other fun things to try: Shunpo to wards, teemo mushrooms or jack-in-the-boxes is an awesome way to lead people on a merry chase through the jungle. I usually buy a sight ward if I'm farming a solo lane and place it nearby in the jungle. This way, if I get jumped by an enemy gank squad, I can simply shunpo to safety.

If I have a shen, kayle or morgana on my team it's also fun to coordinate tower dives with them. A few games ago, the only opponent who could interrupt my ult on the enemy team (Taric) was farming top while the rest of his team (morde, miss fortune, akali, vladimir) were standing under their turret mid. I told kayle to be ready to pop her bubble on me, then shunpo'ed right on top of their tower and popped death lotus. I ate 2 ults and a bunch of normal abilities before the bubble ran out and scored a kill on Miss fortune that reset the cooldown on shunpo, allowing me to jump to safety before the tower did any noticable damage to me. If the rest of my team had followed me in, we could probably have taken all 4 of them out, but as it were we had to settle for a kill and a tower as they were all too low on health to stay and defend it after spin2win.

TL;DR

Katarina is all kinds of awesome fun. Spin 2 Win.

Since I used to play on the us servers back in summer, my european account was left at ~ level 4 i think. Now it's 15, since I play about 2-3 games per day. I couldn't really care about ranked gaming, since I usually play with around ~3 (sometimes 4, very rarely though) other friends using skype, and hon gave me a very bittersweet taste with it's ranked system, so I mostly play LoL just for fun, with friends. (which is cool since most of them are better than me  )
However, I wouldn't really mind playing with some other eu folks, we could do a premade sometimes.
Nickname is Wulfstand, just like on the us.

Kat is nice food for anybody with CC. To tell you the truth i was having trouble handling her but with some CC timing she is useless in team fights, interupt her ult and shes free food. Only champs I have trouble shutting down are Akali and Trynd. Akali got this megaburst of damage if fed a bit then shes unstoppable. 1vs1 not reccomended unless you're Veigar or Olaf with abilities available. Good Trynds time their shit really good and are hard as hell to shut down. Just when you thought you'd Ignite them, the fucker spins away. Just lost a ranked game cause our Trynd fucking sucked, chasing around and getting ganked all the time. I think he finished 1/9 or something. Why cant I have a good Trynd in my team, seems hes always on the other.

Name's Elboo both on US and EU, level 18 on US, lv30 with 500+ games on EU. I'll add you Wolf...

Man. I didn't play this one for a long time. Will fire it up tomorrow. I'm not even dropping my ign here since no point in premades when I have to learn whole game again. I bet there was bazillion new champions released, and a hundred or so new items. Probably all my favourite champions got nerfed to ground too. Oh yeah, on the subject, jungling rammus still viable?

Quoted for truth. Thankfully my elo is still artificially lowered from my full-tilt losing spree, so I have an easy time stomping the scrubs. As an added bonus, I'm teaching a friend I duo a lot with to play Morgana (my main). Black shield on kat is fun. Especially when morg has enough AP that it absorbs all 3 stuns aimed at me :D

I've sent a friend invite you you and Wulf. I'm sure you'll recognize the name when you see it.

JohnTheRevelator said:

His ganking potential with powerball was reduced slightly, but he's still a very strong jungler and frequent ban/first pick in ranked on most ELO ranges.

If you've been away for a while, you'll want to know about Leashing. Neutral creeps in the jungles AI has been changed so that, if their target moves out of range, they'll attack anyting else hurting them before returning to their position and regenerating. If you can convince your ranged carry mid to shoot the golem once for you and run away, you can get a lot of free hits in on it before it turns on you. Usually means you'll have an additional 2-300 HP after taking blue buff.

[edit]

In fact, I just had a game with Wulf where I played jungle Rammus. 1/16/13 masteries, ArmPen reds, Flat armor Yellows, Mana regen per level blues, flat HP Quints. Started with cloth armor and 5x health pot. Went Cloth Armor->Aegis, Merc Treads, Chain vest, Catalyst, Catalyst->Banshee's veil, Chain vest-> Sunfire cape, Thornmail, Negatron Cloak.

Ended up going 9/10/19 KDA + 1 turret kill. Deaths could've been less, but I had to die needlessly a few times 'cause Teemo didn't wanna B when the tank told him to so I had to soak horrible faceraep from Kat, Irelia and Ashe.

:rage:

Main reason why I like(d) jungling with him, hell jungling is already boring as it is. Ganking is only fun part in there. I guess I'll have to try it myself and I guess I'll spend next 6-8 hours doing builds on leaguecraft then play 30 - 60 minutes and go back to making builds ... :M .

the nerf is really tiny. Basically the slow after you hit someone is reduced so you have to be faster with the taunt, that's all.

Phew. You got me worried there. If it's just about slow then no bigge. I never relied on it anyway, too easy to flash away. Used to full extent only if I know they can't escape. If they touched knock up however, that would suck.
