Anyone watch the new stream from Garriott?

I'm actually watching it right now. Why?

Just wondering if there's anything worthwhile. But I guess from everything I'm reading this is pretty much an MMO game with a token you can play by yourself but it will blow since it's not designed with you in mind.

It's kind of interesting, actually. He was just telling some nostalgic tales. And now there's a Q&A session.

Nothing that would convince you to pledge to the game though.

I just heard that there will not be Ultima-like companions but "henchmen". Yuck, that sounds like NWN. :( Also, I saw the guy with RG type in that people will be able to form "Guilds"... yeah, that doesn't scream MMO to me... and there will virtually be no stats in this game...

Nothing that would convince you to pledge to the game though.

RG just clarified that this is a "persistent multiplayer game"... that just nailed the coffin for me.

Stopped watching as it was almost exclusively about the MMO stuff and the "tech" to getting it working right. The typing guy kept answering multiplayer/ MMO questions from UOdiots.

Since when is it unethical to exploit idiots? Dont know why some people get so upset that he asks for money although he already is a filthy rich man. Is it so hard to expect from the gamer part of mankind to be actually smart enough to decide for themselves what they do with their money?
Can't have people wasting money on RG when Fargo is there!

Yeah, I pledged at $25, but pretty clear Nultima is pitched more at the UO audience.

Same here. I at first went all collector frenzy and tiered at the cloth map/ trinket level even with all the MMO talk here at the Codex. However, some sanity prevailed within the first half an hour and I changed it to a $25 tier when there was only 20 or so left. I was thinking at the time that I'll wait for more info to see if there might be a true single player game in there somewhere. After everything that has been discussed, by the developers themselves, the last two days I'm not backing this thing at all. It IS an MMO no matter how they try to say it isn't. I should not have had hope and gone with my initial feelings/ thoughts that led up to the start of this... thing. Even Chris Roberts is trying to perpetuate the single player myth with this in the KS comments a few minutes ago:

ALL - Glad you're all backing Richard! I want to see him make a RPG without the interference of "other" interests - like the old days or Origin Systems when we were still independent!
For the people that have some reservations but loved Richard's Ultimas I would encourage you to stay in and / or back - he's the same guy and certain can and will make the kind of game you loved so much. And backing allows you to be PART of the conversation - it allows your views to be heard - and I know Richard listens.
For me he's going to deliver a strong single player game reminiscent to his classic Ultimas that will be enhanced by other friends or players (at your choice). Of course this is just my take on it, so LB & Team may correct me!

Sorry Chris but I'm out of this one.

It's not even that the concept necessarily precludes having a good single player game. It's just that I doubt the man who is actually proud of U9, and has been making MMOs and social games for the past 14 years, even knows how to put together a good single player game anymore.

Most likely the game's single player experience will feel like a bland "single player MMORPG" in the style of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

I am eagerly anticipating the moment before this Kickstarter ends, when LB skips his foot and shoves a whole leg in his mouth and a massive number of suckers backers retract their pledges and the campaign fails. It will be glorious!

Have you guys seen the first pledge?

GUILT PLEDGE ============================= Thank Lord British and prove your virtue with a $10 donation. If you ever pirated an Ultima game or used an exploit to grief other players in Ultima Online, here’s your chance to repent! For your $10 donation you will receive a clear conscience and Lord British's undying gratitude.

wow fucking garriot.

It's like saying, 'i've got so much money i don't care if this gets funded or not, i'm just doing it for the lulz'
1 gratitude = 10$ = 1/1000000 of a castle

There are enough LB-tards out there that he'll get $1 million easily from blind faith alone.
