This DLC business model, especially the ones that introduce new art assets will only serve to fracture the community itself, they are relying on the success of the modding scene to "force" people to keep buying their DLC. So far these guys have done their best to take all the wind out of my excitement for the game release.

Pretty unprofessional of them to just use resized blurry screens they've already posted.

Fuck, what a shame that they have barely begun making this great game and it's already going to be rushed from now on. There is no chance in hell that someone can create something very long-lived in so little time.
The longevity will be decided by the quality of the editor and modding community more than anything, same as with NWN.

Me too. I wouldn't have pre-purchased if I knew it wasn't gonna be DRM-free and have a DLC model.

I am probably just going to play the campaign(s) and that's it.

No mods planned but if the game is successful, who knows what we might be able to add in the future?

If backers want to mod with post-Berlin content they will have to use the Steam Version. That probably shat on the hopes of a few backers. I am still happy that they swiftly refunded my pre-order upon request (they can at least get that done on time).

I don't have unreasonable expectation about the nature of this game, especially considering the very limited budget/development time/game's price.
The objective was to create a game reminiscent to the SNES game (and the sega game in a lesser extent) but turn based and more tactical.
The main interest of the SNES game was the atmosphere which was great and the well paced story. It was more an adventure/RPG game with simplistic RT combat and few RPG elements.
HBS wanted to improve on the RPG part as much as possible but it comes after the story/atmosphere part.
As much as i would love a hardcore cRPG with complex tactical combat, i don't expect that.
If HBS succeed in creating an adventure reminiscent of the SNES game but with a TB combat a bit more complex than in fallout and more RPG elements that in the SNES game, i would be very happy.

if you can mod the basic campaigns with the toolset, modding weapons can be easily added.

Weapon mods DLC! :bounce:

Yeah, but heaven forbid if you try to go beyond basic scripting. Hell, you can't even alter a model or icon for your modified gun, because, guess what:

Q: Would players be capable to import/export the art assets?
A: The current plan is no mods or imports.

Gotta milk those DLCs, man.

Well, HBS has made it's money off of DLC's and microtransactions, it's not terribly surprising that they're continuing that trend. Disappointing, but not surprising.

Indeed, after Strike Fleet Omega, we could still have a doubt about the editor pushing this over them, but Shadowrun returns makes it clear they at least did not mind milking IAP themselves...

It would seem that HBS isn't keen on the idea either, but rather it was imposed onto them by the Shadowrun IP owner (i.e., Microsoft). It would have probably been better if they were more forthcoming at the start of the campaign, but I guess my cynical side believes that HBS kept it a secret because of the potential lost in revenue on the Kickstarter campaign.

Character modelers did a fantastic job. Portraits are okay. Could be better, could be worse.

This reminds me of when VD was pointing out he thought it took 3 years to make a good RPG from scratch. I don't mind the kickstarter model, but my worry has always been that without ace management, the deadlines they set were too tight.

This was always gonna be a minigame, people underestimate how expensive games are. Double fine are gonna get hammered as well when people realise they kickstarted a costume quest 2 rather than a new psychonauts or grim fandango. These are also the same people that laugh and bitch about obsidian doing contract work for dodgy russian MMO's, that shit is gonna pay the bills when eternity gets delayed and goes way overbudget. (an obsidian speciality)

^ Infinitron seemed to think the budget was reasonable for P:E. He seemed to have done his homework. Have you? I realise that sounds aggressive, but it's not meant that way. I've seen some compelling arguments that 4 million was enough. I haven't seen anything but people guessing and pulling shit out of their ass saying the opposite.

I think Obsidian can make do with the budget, but I also think they might choose to go over that budget with the extra funds they're earning from this Russian MMO (or whatever), to make the game even better.
