"Shadowrun originated as a tabletop. I think that, if possible, some roleplay-ish element should be retained. Provide some infrastructure for people who want to mix in some roleplay. Chat, some Mass Effect-style choices, group choice options...whatever."

Tabletop and Mass Effect...

yeah, it's a good thing they mentioned Mass Effect choices isn't it

Tabletop restricts your choices artificially with stats, but Mass Effect gives you true freedom to play a role. It's good that rpg game designers have learned to stop living in the past.

Because it's more "roleplay-ish", I guess.

Goddamn stats get in my way. Where's my conversation wheel with all 3 of my choices neatly laid out for me? Numbers do not equal RPG after all!

Er, is that quote from some comment? Cause I can't find it no matter where I look on the Kickstarter page.

What irks me is how the first mention made after this phenomenal succes is adding more languages. Really, that's the first thing to spring to mind?
Maybe it will shock you, nut there are many Western countries where English is still marginal, and there are people out there that still prefer to play in their own language even if they know English.
Then however he goes and mentions deathmatches and my jaw really does drop. Compared to the wasteland guys who kept mentioning extra content being made possible by the extra funds or the banner people who were all happy to be able to get better sound and music this really is disappointing. We'll see.
Every developer want its game to have the wider audience as possible, MP has always been a way to expand it, and as a way to artificially prolong the life cycle of a game without providing new content, nothing new, even when Nerds were in command.

You can't stare in the abyss work for decades with publishers and their marketing department without being affected.

From the Kickstarter comments:
I have hopped on board! How could I not, I never really got into Shadowrun and the only aspect of it I did try was the FPS for Xbox 360. And I know that is nothing like the way it should be and that is why I am on board!
WTF. I just can't get my head around this type of thinking.
Useful idiots, for once they are useful to us. :)

Anyone else feeling a little uneasy with the possible direction of this game? I'm I reading too much into this social, multi-player, mobile-device thing? :?

The multiplayer possibility made my blood pressure go up to alarming levels. But will wait...

I hope to god that MP will be something seperate and very much optional. Why must people shove multiplayer into just about damn near everything? Pretty soon our godamn toasters will be multi-fucking-player if shit keeps up.

I don't mind a multiplayer mode, as long as it's well done and not just a half-assed feature added for the sake of it.

Turn-based squad battles can be fun.

So what exactly is he making? An Turn Based CRPG for PC as I understand? (Sorry if I am a bit confused, never played Shadowrun tabletop or video games and I have a light hangover).

Multiplayer isn't inherently bad, and doesn't mean the single player has to suffer, even Deus Ex had multiplayer

Just need to hope they can pull it off :M

From the front page of their website: "Shadowrun Returns brings back one of our most original & cherished game settings as a 2D turn-based RPG for tablets & PC."
Yeah, looks like they left it out of the kickstarter page. Which is strange enough, considering how everyone loves slapping on that RPG sticker.

If I recall correctly, Deus Ex had multiplayer patched in sometime after the game had been released. It didn't start out with multiplayer. That, I think, makes all the difference.
