New Portraits preview!
13 MAY - WHALENOUGHTSTUDIOS

We're finishing up with the last of the portraits for companions and character generation and wanted to show off another preview of some new faces! No Lachovinians or Ameythevians in this one, but have some dashing Pasaarans, Varuchovs and Taratoriths (4 of whom are backers portraits!)

Total there are 50 character generation portraits to choose from, and 30 companions able to beput through the grinder found and cherished!

The Varuchov male featured is actually the most powerful companion you can find, and is one of the rare surface dwelling Vykins within the Staglands (Vykins are the equivalent of our historic knights — honored in ceremony, monsters in reality). He's quite difficult to obtain, but I'm sure the savviest of Spicers out there can manage.

So many great games currently in production but none to play in this moment...

Get invisible inc., bro.
How dare you touch a non-rpg?! You're lucky you're one of my main brofists supplier...

But on a serious note, I got Guacamelee from Igarashi's Bloodstained stream so I'm set for now, though it's just a temporary distraction. I want an rpg and I want it now. Maybe after all those years I'll try a jrpg?

Ok Whalenought_Joe, what do we need to do to get a spiralbound manual like the Fallouts / earlier IE games? It's too good to be relegated to a PDF.

Ugh, I wish we had the funds for that. Putting together the art book/making-of I was thinking the same thing, though now we get some movies and .gifs in there which are fun.

So to save some time, my plan is to send everyone who qualifies in this list a GOG Key, unless you message me and specify you'd like one of our DRM-free ones or for whatever reason would like a steam key instead. The folks that qualify for the art book I'll be messaging today and getting emails, so be on the lookout for those — we'll be making the accounts on our site to get those when ~release.

If I am gonna LP this, might as well have some build advice- Sensuki tuluse?
I have gotten super busy recently. I haven't actually spent any time with skills above tier 1.

That said, the first two companions you can recruit are an exilir thrower and a sword and board tankish character. So if you want to get them, don't roll one of those. I would definitely roll a mage, you will be spamming the healing spell like no tomorrow.

For story/investigation purposes, I'd make sure to grab aptitudes (I'd suggest a point in philosophy off the bat).

The attributes are pretty straight forward once you have a concept in mind. Everyone wants Dex and probably Per and Occ. Spell casters want Int, fighters want Str.

Remember if you have access to a tier of spells you can use them all even with 0 points. Adding points makes them more potent. So I'd just encourage some experimentation.

Sorry I'm not more into min/maxing.

Yeah, was thinking of doing a codex party to avoid spoilering companions, with at least one blood cocoon user.

Whalenought_Joe I assume that since there are 30 companions in the game, these companions will be more akin to those recruitable in BG1, with very minor dialogues or impact on the story, and that they would be mostly expendable and interchangeable? Not a criticism, just interested to know the role of the companions and the extent of it, as well as how important each individual one is.

I really hope releasing this game so close to TW3 isn't going to hurt it. It would be a tragedy if it got lost in the hypestorm.

Yeah, less jrpg/bg2 and more practical. The best-friend-lets-get-to-know-each-other style didn't really fit the story, and we wanted folks to be able to experiment with different groups and tactics.

There are definitely some companions that are more important in lore or have some interesting builds setup, and each of them has some info about certain locations they'd know about. All of their character-traits are unique from the char-gen selections too, which usually makes them more powerful than avatars created, so they're worth checking out. Little bit of info companions here.

Our target audience isn't teens, so hoping that might help distinguish the two games

Heh, I'm pretty sure SitS's ESRB rating would be a lower age than Witcher 3's.
