I'd be guessing that if you campared tank eders damage to a fighter with decent str from bg2 I would be thinking the bg2 fighter would out dps a PoE tank.

POE characters have vastly more 'hit points', while the damage done is usually not scaled up in the same way. This, by itself, makes most fights take longer than in the IE games, that's one thing.

You suck at this game.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is just factually incorrect. Endurance to damage ratio is much lower than ad&d HP to damage ratio, and many people complain that combat is just shooting everything with guns at the opening and wiping everything out too fast.

This is the first time I've heard it even put forth that PoE fights take longer than say BG2 fights.

Ad&d does have the advantage of save or die spells that quicken fights quite a bit, but if you are actually relying on damage to exceed health, I don't see how IE could be faster than PoE after about level 2 (when enemies are no longer one shotted).

Most melee in D&D, if all of their attacks hit (which means they are heavily buffed and their enemies are debuffed) will be killing equal level enemy casters in about one round of melee and enemy warriors in about two rounds of melee. I'd say that's faster than PoE in most instances.

PoE seems to commit the beginners mistake of making ranged weapons more powerful than melee weapons, which is almost always a bad balance move.

That said it's hard to compare without a baseline. Are we talking PoE on normal speed or 2x speed, and is BG/IWD being played at 30 FPS or 60 FPS?

Goddammit

Endurance to damage ratio is much lower than ad&d HP to damage ratio, and many people complain that combat is just shooting everything with guns at the opening and wiping everything out too fast.

The important word here being guns. You have to stick guns on everyone to make the combat faster because melee damage, among other things, is so bad. Many spells that aren't fan of flames also have relatively low damage that makes them shit outright.

+ with those D&D games you very quickly reach a point where you one-hit-kill most low level enemies with one swing of a sword, which, as far as I remember, doesn't happen in poe at any stage of the game.

Also, grazes. Always remember the grazes.
18 might, damaging 2, and a secondary damage effect means you do +79% damage over base (this is achievable by level 3, so it's not the end of the game either). With a two handed weapon like an estoc, that should be 25-35 damage with 5 armor piercing.

A level 1 barbarian with 10 constitution would have 64 endurance, so 2-3 attacks would kill it. That's not exactly 1 swing, but it's pretty fast. Fighter would have 56 endurance, priest 48 endurance. So that's going to be a kill after 2 hits always.

I'm not sure exactly what creature endurance values look like and the wiki isn't helping me, but generally, a character built to do damage can kill low level things quickly.

All this 'review' proves is that there will always be a contingent at the Codex who will hate anything Obsidian make. It must be really fucking depressing, not being able to enjoy video games.

PoE is way better than BG1 and it's not even close.
perphaps, but BG1 gave me the sensation of being some weakling lost in a big world, on a grand adventure, who could die because of an arrow or a spell, and where things were happening.

PoE does nothing of the sort. It only makes me go "oh, great, more shitcombat"

Now that it established PoE is shit, will the Codex go back to its schedule of posting glowing reviews of Japanese shovelware already?

I have 80 hours logged on PoE and I give it a 10/10.
I was actually overwhelmed by how good it was
I disagree, I rate it 10/10.
(I hated Sawyer before the game was released and now I'm his fan) and would rate it 10/10.

Take his dick off your mouth, you're embarrassing yourself.

:hmmm:

More like personal crusade for attention.
You retards, including Roxor, are just a vocal minority.
It's just the vocal minority screaming/whining against it.

It is far from established - In not so long the codex will have this debate again once VD posts his review. This is only round 1, round 2 is coming 'soon'

Whatever it takes to continue the tradition of the Codex being that special flower on the internet MUST be done.

Didn't you say that you were at the beginning of Act 3 recently? How could it take you 80 hours to get there? I've restarted the game twice and it took me 54 hours to beat the game and finish most quests on hard.

Man, it's amazing how these Codex arguments manage to last longer than DragonBall Z battles!
And, boy! Were those battles long...

I like to take my time. I also tested the game first with 2 other PCs. I'm in the middle of Act 3 now.
Loading times too long on the first two?

I am near end of game (did everything except last map, last few levels of Old Nua and most bounties), Steam says I spent 133 hours playing it. If we take away 30h of game being in background while I am doing other stuff I am still 100 hours in on my first playthrough.
