Can't watch atm because I forgot my damn headphones coming to uni so someone watch this and see if it's shit or on the money.

Good stuff. Nothing that I didn't know at this point though. Yeah, the engine is shit.

Thanks bros. Saves me 40 minutes of watching the same complaints over and over.

Well that's a damn shame, I wish CA a pleasant future making trashware. I actually think the developer-modder symbiosis that existed for strategy companies like CA and paradox was an ideal ecosystem for the genre, with developers releasing a fairly incomplete but solid and sellable framework and compulsive modders doing enormous historicity, bugfix and gameplay overhauls. One can't expect developers to spend massive resources churning out highly detailed systems and aesthetics for a niche audience (they probably couldn't even if they wanted to) and one can't expect obsessive modders to be able to competently create a good base game (see Magna Mundi: the game). But their strengths and weaknesses complemented each other well enough to create some of the best gaming experiences out there. Maybe we've witnessed the passing of a golden age.

Probably. If modders added new content to their games constantly they wouldn't be able to sell any DLC. I actually think this is the primary reason for CA making their new engine less modable.

Baktria confirmed for next Free-LC. Any bros with the will to play this turd tell us how good or bad the faction is.

Baktria confirmed for next Free-LC.

So they "release" "free content" that's already in the game?

I'm not installing this turd until next year. Screw them and their minor changes.

Pretty much. All the Free-LC's are is a faction already in the game given maybe 1-2 special units, a faction bonus, and a unique building or general trait.

These release day scars run deep. The graphics and UI alone make me avoid trying it again.
Any overhaul mods for a Shogun 2 style menu/UI yet?

Ugh I was thinking that maybe if I wait for an expansion or two this game might have been worth picking up from the bargain bin, but after watching that video it just seems to me this thing is fubar'ed at the core (same guy that did that other review picking apart Empire btw)

Having to wait and squint your eyes to see a unit's statuses instead of them all being clearly displayed in the unit card, units can run in phalanx formation, and loose formation restricted to a few units only?! :wtfisthisshitpicard:

And that's only the ones that jumped at me the most, the other things he talks about like soldiers still engaging each other one one seem just as bad if not more.

Oh well looks like medieval2:kingdoms+mods is still the ultimate total war experience for me until either CA works a miracle with the patches or dumps warscape into a fire, if ever.

Whom we gonna have to wait more? CA to make a good game or Europa Barbarorum 2 leaving vapourware status?

Those fuckers are releasing an expansion

Some gaul campaign. http://www.vg247.com/2013/12/02/tot...-gaul-expansion-announced-first-details-here/

“We’ve always planned to focus more closely on some of the key conflicts of the ancient world, and Caesar’s war in Gaul is the ideal place to start"

Sounds like we'll have quite a few of these.
Eh, If I had to put a positive spin on this, Id look forward to all of these campaigns eventually glued together to improve the depth of the base game.

Not holding my breath.

Well. The whole game system has lack of details. It's quite hard to concentrate more closely on one conflict, when the system is nearly as abstract as desktop games.

Oh god it also adds in 3 barbarian factions and auxiliary troops and mercs as well as a shit campaign.

Love reading the features that they are jerking off about that should have been in the main game like seasons. Will search for the flames of butthurt for maximum lulz.

Seasons only available in a dlc add-on campaign? All it needs now is for the expansion to become stand-alone and we'll have Empire all over again. Fuck 'em.

And unless they do anything about the utterly shit AI this isn't even worth torrenting.

They can only redeem themselves if this turns out to be a crossover with Asterix. Otherwise they might as well not bother.

No DLC is going to fix the horrible, twitching mess that is the underlying codebase for this game.

Oh boy, DLC campaign when the game is still broken. Thanks CA!
What are its current problems after two months of patching?

So far, they sorta, kinds fixed three things: graphics optimization (not great but noticeably better than on release), turn times went down a bunch (still takes a bit), the AI is better, but still brain dead.

Then there's stuff that hasn't been touched at all (not a complete list, just the ones that annoy me the most):
The inane micromanagement from added cooldown powerups for each goddamn unit.
The AI is still helpless vs. ballista rape engines (the latter may in fact may be the bigger problem).
Next to useless in-game reference (wanna know what exactly "heavy shot" does? Tough. Build a unit, take it for a spin, god forbid you knew in advance).
Melees are still a fucking mess - ever wanted to see what's the actual situation at a glance? Tough luck. First you need to pause the game, then you need to hover the mouse over several units, losing several more precious seconds.
Then there are affling changes to the battle UI, fuck knows why:
>move-click breaks all formations and puts units in straigth line, thanks CA,
>still no "guard" button,
>unreadable and confusing unit cards,

Main AI and optimistation problems still linger. AI is terrible both in campaign map and battles, especially in siege battles. Some ladder/stair holding enemies still start running in circles when there is something on their way.
Or they just wait. Won some sure-lost sieges thanks to this bug. Whole enemy army just waited out there near my walls till time run out, physiological warfare at its best.

Auto resolve still far away to resolve things, not much of a problem for us since we can manually play battles. But a huge problem for AI factions, some minor African factions easly wipe out Egypt, Carthage with only slingers just becuse they are larger in numbers.

And there is also "bottleneck" issue with gpus, you got multiple cores? Rome 2 doesn't care, he is happily using only one...

Like Santander02 said just play medieval2:kingdoms+mods or maybe Shogun 2.

Edit: And they still try to sell DLCs...
