Risen 1 was never meant to be more than an HD remake of Gothic 2 with a more polished control scheme and user-friendly interface
Mages reside on the thunder island 'Tamaris' trying to save humanity using the 'reactor' which shall protect the island from the titan lords. Plenty of magic energy is needed to power the reactor (power is gained from lightnings)

And they most certainly failed in those areas.
I don't see a problem with loading new areas, it was like that in G1 and G2 and was done pretty much flawlessly.

Assuming you can turn depth of field off those shots look decent. Not amazing, but decent, which is good since my PC is getting old.
