I didn't read the entire thread but I have a few comments.

1) The Oculus Rift S is very nice, BUT, it has an LCD monitor instead of IPS like the original Oculus Rift. This makes the black/darkness look gray. It's very annoying, especially in VR.
I have the Oculus Rift at home, and the Oculus Rift S at work. Although the Oculus Rift S resolution is pretty amazing, when playing games with darkness, it's really not the same experience. I prefer the Oculus Rift at this point, though I am not sure you can still buy it.

2) I don't have a lot of room for my Oculus Rift to play, but even if I did, I think the best VR game for "real" gaming would be ones where you can sit most of the time and not need to reach out to far from your chair. I think the standing games are a lot more exhausting and are mostly fun for youtubers, but not for a lot of gaming.

3) I still didn't find a lot of games I like to play in Oculus. Maybe one reason is that I don't have enough place for room scale, but also because most VR games seems like different gimmicks on the same principle. Eventually you want a real game where the VR is not the main reason why it's a lot more exhausting to play.

* A few games I really did like on my VR:
1. Moss: Really nice game. Feels like an actual game and made a nice use of VR. The VR doesn't detracts from the game itself and you can play this game for long hours. I played it a lot, but didn't finish it yet.
2. Lucky's Tale: It's a really cute game and fun for new VR gamers. It's a bit hard motion sickness wise, but not too bad. It's a lot of fun to experience platforming this way. However, after a while it got a bit repetitive and I didn't finish it. Although it's a really long game.
3. Star Wars: Vader Immortal: It's the type of game you can't play for too long. But it's short and sweet. You get to do the standard VR gimmicks, but not too many and not too long. I think these types of VR games can't be too long before you get too tired of playing them.
This is just the first episode though.
4. Dirt Rally(1): Was kind of fun to drive like crazy and after a while to learn how to drive properly. It's quite an old game that got adapted to VR, so it's a mixed emotion for me with this game. I feel like the core mechanics are good, but I am not sure I want to invest a lot of time in this mixed breed game.

5. Also Serious Sam VR is pretty good. But also, not too motivated to finish it.

It was once the case that large videogame developers had no interest in virtual reality (VR) content creation due to the fact the technology was so niche. Slowly but surely several studios have come to embrace VR such as Bethesda, Gearbox Studios, and Ubisoft. Actually, Ubisoft was one of the earliest creating titles like Werewolves Within, Eagle Flight, Star Trek: Bridge Crew and most recently Space Junkies. Today, VRFocus has learnt Ubisoft is now hiring for a specialist VR team.

The company is looking to build a 50 person strong team to work on an unannounced VR project, a AAA title which will use one of Ubisoft’s biggest IP’s. There are plenty to choose from when it comes to well-known Ubisoft brands including Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six, Tom Clancy the list goes on.

“Not all our positions are on our website yet but we are building a 50 people team right now for this new project, focusing right now on the core team but more positions will follow!” a Ubisoft spokesperson told VRFocus.

Some of these positions can already be found on Ubisoft’s career website, all based in Dusseldorf, Germany:

It looks as though the team will be part of Ubisoft Blue Byte, a Dusseldorf-based studio which has worked on several brands including Anno and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft Blue Byte is also behind two location-based entertainment (LBE) for VR arcades Assassin’s Creed Origins: Escape the Lost Pyramid and Beyond Medusa’s Gate. The unannounced VR project will be separate, however: “And to be clear, this new team that we are building is a different team than the Escape Room VR team!” said the spokesperson.

This project could very well be related to the July rumour that Facebook had reportedly signed a deal with Ubisoft for Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell exclusives. Nothing has been confirmed to date but as mentioned they are two of the biggest IP’s the videogame company has, warranting a decent team. As further details come to light regarding Ubisoft’s plans, VRFocus will let you know.

That looks stupid. It wouldn't be like walking it would be like dragging a weight with a rope around your waist while your feet slip on the ground... Like walking on ice. Also what they are doing is so physically draining the average person wouldn't even be able to do it for more than 30 seconds. That swimming motion for example, without being in water to reduce the relative weight of your limbs. But even just walking would be hard too. It might be ok for some game where you are in a little haunted house or something, but anything with any distance like 99% of RPGs or FPSs would be exhausting, and yet not even feel realistic. I can just tell that thing is shit and they will go out of business as soon as the bad reviews and tiny sales becomes apparent.

And it wont matter to them because they will make off with all the crowdfunded money.

In a moneyless society we would work on promising prototypes like this together and improve it. Food would come in to people working on it regardless.

Here it is just waiting until some company releases a shitty product.

This is because Valve uses sensors for tracking an Facebook, which is an intelligence operation, uses cameras.

That is why they spend so much on exclusivity for games, which is cancer. And why they do not care about pushing the technology forward, but only want to make it as accessible as possible so more people put cameras in their houses.

VorpX recently got updated and it supports Monster Hunter World and Witcher 3. You need a bit of tinkering but it works otherwise excellent.

Protip: Since those games are very very expensive on hardware switch off that garbage Steam VR and set vorpX as generic headset rather than Vive/SteamVR. You won't get headmovement (and you don't need it since it is 3rd person) but 3D will absolutely work well and game will run really really really well. Previously i got like 20-30fps using steamVr but when i stopped using it 60-70FPS.

The vive "beacons" don't have sensors. They project IR light which the headset itself with cameras on it records.
The Rift(the original) has cameras as beacons which record lights emitted from the headset.
The advantage of the Vive setup is that you don't need a USB connection for each of the emitting sensors, because they don't collect data. You need a power supply though.

You can do all that and more in Blade & Sorcery. With guns, you can even throw them at the enemy. My boy did a video of the game on his You Tube channel. But he plays Overwatch so feel free to disregard his opinion.



Also, LOW-FI sounds neat. I like the idea of VR open world Blade Runner with non-linear quests. It looks cool. But it's just promises, like most kickstarters. I won't back it but I'll keep an eye on it.



Also, we need more Star Trek Bridge Crew. Sequel or DLC I care not. I just want more bridges. Add the Defiant and Voyager at least. Maybe a couple other popular ships like the Akira or Excelsior. That'd be cool.

That's pretty bullshit, especially on the claims of the "Pimax 8K" and its brethren, which are basically Chinese Shovelware tier with pretty bad Firmware and Software support. First, it doesn't actually display that resolution, but upscales: https://www.roadtovr.com/pimax-8kx-8kplus-launch-dates/
Pimax’s base “8K” headset, priced at $900 without controllers or the requisite SteamVR basestations, already offers up dual 3,840×2,160 resolution CLPL panels, however design limitations only allow the headset to upscale from 2,560×1,440 resolution per display.

And second they come with different FOV settings, making the effective resolution at higher PPD less, not only that but the higher two settings and especially the largest is apparently rather experimental and comes with picture distortion and the likes:
FOV settings large 170, medium around 150, small 125. This product cannot use it's full FOV without distortions in the edges, The most comfortable usable FOV is medium at 150.

I recommend Assgard's Wrath.
I think it's the first full length VR game apart from Skyrim, but Skyrim was an adaptation to VR.
It also happens to be an action RPG game, kind of classic gameplay, not too artsy or trying to be too special.
It has a lot of core gameplay, good graphics, and interesting setting.
I didn't play that long, but my only complaint right now is that you have to throw your sword a lot, and it's kind of hard to throw it accurately.
If it was a throwing sword competition game it would make sense, but when you have to fight monsters and break crates with your sword, it's kind of too hard for some basic attacks you need to do numerous times.
But so far it didn't strain my hand too much. Also I am just starting so maybe later I will get a more easier way to attack.

My Ryzen 7 2700X with Geforce RTX 2080 had a bit of an issue to run the game on high settings in the pub area. But I wonder if it's due to loading assets or just raw processing power.
But the other parts of the game outside the dense tavern were actually running smoothly on high settings.

Definitely Oculus Quest since you can use it as a wireless standalone or connect it to PC (which makes Rift S obsolete). They just added a new update for full hand tracking.

Just note that experienced VR users have said the increase in latency is noticeable through Oculus Link and the tracking volume is inferior to the Rift S's. It's also a lot less comfortable because of how unbalanced the headset is.

Ultimately, if you want value you need to choose between the Quest and the Rift S. The Valve headsets are well over double the price and support much less games out of the box.
