Ada's handling in this is pure decline. :negative:

Voice can't be fixed, but I thought they might at least feature the original dress as an alternate costume like in RE2 and 3. I don't care for the turtleneck sweater and high boots that cover most of her legs.

I still find it odd they went out of their way to get that awful RE netflix movie actress. Someone at Capcom must have really been a fan of that crap.

Is this remake actually good? Like on the same level as RE2 Remake?
RE1 remake was basically the same game (i.e. functioned on the same rules), but it was bigger, better, and more mechanically rich than the original. RE2 remake was a completely new game - a good one, but very different from the original. With RE3 remake the devs took the same approach as RE2, they just did it in a shitty way.

There was really no reason to re-make RE4 sice the original is still a relatively modern action game with over-the-shoulder camera, so this remake ended up being a "sidegrade".

It has some mechanical improvements (QoL changes like being able to switch between weapons using hotkeys, better resource management, better weapon balancing, storage box, more frantic combat, everything to do knives and parrying), but it also has some mechanical downgrades (indestructible wooden doors, less precise movement due to realistic animations, worsened Ashley's AI, etc).

It has some story improvements (Luis no longer dies like a chump and now has a good character arc; Krauser went from some random military dude who pops up in the third act to a tragic villain suffering from PTSD akin to Dolph Lundgren from Universal Soldier), but also some story downgrades (Ada as a character is way worse, her appearances are rarer, and her voice acting is pretty poor; Salazar and Saddler are less memorable due to codec conversations being removed, etc).

It has some content additions (new weapons like MP-5 and a bowgun, expanded Shooting range, crafting mechanics, new sections such as Armored El Gigante on the castle battlements, etc), but also some cuts (no cable car segment, no garrador cage fight, no sewers, no spike traps, no bulldozer, etc etc).

Basically, for every little thing that was added or improved, some different element was cut or worsened.
Yeah, the original could've just used some gameplay tweaks and graphical touch ups, with perhaps some new content spliced in. This remake sounds more like an alternate/remixed version than a proper replacement based on this.

Ada's handling in this is pure decline. :negative:
The Ada voice actress deactivated Instagram comments after receiving thousands of critical messages yikes lol:

Funny how RE4 and Metroid Prime again come out the same generation, within a month of each other no less, in the form of remakes/remasters. And afaic, MP wins again as these two games, often regarded as the best of their generation, only needed a few tweaks not full on remakes, and MP is the one that got just what they needed (more or less).

Or maybe Drakortha is right and RE4 was always wack, because why does the "best game of all time" that "redefined a genre," need a complete remake?

I do love Resident Evil 4 because it oozes of style, has great gameplay, great replayabilty, and still was scary for its time.

you just can't stop complaining about an objectively good game

Thanks for making your bias clear to see.

You are made biased by 20 years of conditioning from media and journalist shills praising RE4 nonstop for "Doing away with the archaic gameplay RE was known for and changing an industry".

RE4 is right up there with CALL OF DUTY and JUSTIN BIEBER in the hall of fame of things that "changed the industry"

But you can't admit that this change wasn't for the better, because you quite simply love 3rd person ACTION SHOOTERS, not RESIDENT EVIL!

respectively have to fight with everyone who thinks that Resident Evil 4 is a good game.
I'm calling you all out as fake RE fans. You all say you are fans of Resident Evil, yet time and time again RE4 fanboys will shit on the classic games in an attempt to keep their favorite title on a pedestal.
the overwhelming majority of third person shooters pale in comparison to resident evil 4; re4 is a great game, but very few third person shooters come close to it in terms of quality. gears of war was the title that did far more damage anyway, with everyone and their mom wanting to copy its boring cover shooter mechanics for several years

besides, both re 1 and re 4 are shinji mikami's babies, so it makes sense to call re 4 a logical evolution of the re formula. that doesn't mean the original re formula is bad, but they shouldn't be held up as something that you can't deviate from

But it's totally fine and acceptable to hold up the RE4 formula as something we can't deviate from, for what, 20 years now? I've heard all this before. "Original RE formula is le old, fixed camera/tank controls will affect sales, you're just a boomer, blah blah blah".

I'm tired of these over the shoulder shooting games, man. After RE6 that should have been the end of it. And it seemingly was because RE7 got praised for finally doing away with it and going for something different. There could have been a full and total revival of the old formula with the RE2 remake, which is what they originally set out to do in the pre-production stages of the game but they folded. You all have short memories.

I am totally convinced that after the praise RE7 got for it's horror pacing, that gamers were ready for a true return to form. But Crapcom proved they were too cowardly to take the risk.

Ditto.
Resident Evil should go straight back to its Survival Horror with exploration roots.
Either nobody realizes it, or they just don't care. But Crapcom really let us down. The opportunity was there but they squandered it totally. Now you have RE2, RE3, and RE4 remakes that have the exact same gameplay as each other. What's even the point of playing any of them? For the fucking story?

It's sad to see, but these Fanboys don't care. And RE5 and RE6 will be the same thing again as a result. Gaming is dead folks.

Is Drakortha secretly a Capcom shill? He's making me want to buy more copies of their games just to piss him off.

I commend their brilliant marketing strategy if this is the case.
