I've recently finished RDR/UN, expected just some generic Western shit and but pretty shocked how bleak and harsh it was. Does sequel keep similar tone?
Ignore the negativity, its an excellent Western themed game but its designed with vast open wilderness areas that you must appreciate to enjoy its appeal.

So for example in some areas there are only animals to hunt or Easter Eggs like Alien carvings or bandit camps, it has lots of hidden things to discover if you like exploring. But its well worth playing, I spent about 350 hours on RDR2

And you can add mods that increase activities which is recommended

I can appreciate that point of view, because that's how I was starting to enjoy the game at one point, but unfortunately I found myself hating the save system so much I couldn't get into it any more. The save system was like the Princess and the Pea for me.

I had a friend beg me to play this for a long time. He finally bought me a copy for my birthday and the only thing I did was add a mod that let me drag nude hookers around with my horse.

I couldn't find anything more interesting to do? Are there people who actually like this game for the story?

Shit. Couldn't get myself to finish it. Got so bored with the open world.
It bores me immediately. Nothing fun to do because it plays like shit (with walking not only forced, but the next speed that you must hold a button down for too fast a run) and is so railroaded; terrible anti-western story with really fake sounding protagonist who whines and talks endlessly like a woman (the problem of whiny, submissive tool Niko from IV never addressed, now in a genre that normally says so much with so few words). I despise what Rockstar became and don't know how I will ever play through another of their restrictive, sluggish, UNFUNNY open world adventures.

The token realism in RDR2 (horse shitting, snow physics, horse shitting on snow physics) just serves to highlight uncanny valley bullshit when you try to complete any mission in an open, player agency driven way. Or the way the story is railroaded into some Stockholm Syndrome bs.
Most Rockstar games have that problem. San Andreas has one of the stupidest stories in any game like it because it tries to do this realistic gang crime drama main story while giving you railroaded missions where you hop into a superjet and fly it upside down while blowing up several dozen enemy fighters.

We're supposed to believe Arthur is honorable and doesn't like the life of crime and the gang has to lay low because a stray death or two in Blackwater ruined them, but then in the missions Arthur guns down the population equivalent of an entire frontier territory in one afternoon and the gang escapes like nothing happened.

GTA 4 is the only game that comes close to not having this problem, since you're given the choice to make Niko do morally good shit that actually influences the plot a little, and the missions never make you do anything especially wild.
BRO IS DIASAGREE HERE

YOU KILL A SMALL STADIUM WORTH OF PEOPLE FOR FUN AND THEN KILLING YOUR REVENGE TARGETIS A HUGE MORAL CHOICE LOLLOLOL

ON THE WAY TO THAT CUTSCENES I PROBABLY RAN OVER THREE PEOPLE FOR FUN AND THEN KILLED SOMEONE TO TAKE THEIR COOL CAR

I've started playing this game, only doing it in first person.

It's great, it's fucking great. Don't listen to the "everything is shit and woke" crap. It's not KC:D, but sometimes, you just sometimes, you feel it. You're on a horse and everyone around seem to have a life of their own. And so does the world and the so many fucking activities you can do.

Also, something I didn't expect. The writing is good. Very good. The story so far is still fairly basic, but the dialog lines, the character interactions is definitely top tier. The humor has some of that quality where every line and counter-line just hits the right tone and has the right words. The voice acting is also superb in almost every instance.

The missions are your typical set pieces of GTA, heavily scripted, but they are well executed with varying situations that still surprise you. Everything goes wrong, not in the way you sometimes expect. Arthur being forced to drive a cart full of women shouting in the streets that they should be allowed to vote was hilarious.

I haven't done much hunting, crafting, fishing ; it's possible I do some of it in the endgame. Speaking of, I just got spoiled the main "plot twist"

tubercholosis

and holy fucking shit, I don't think many games ever tried that.

And did I mention the soundtrack? The soundtrack _FUCKS_

It's ironic I had bought the game when it came out but never came around to play it. Play it even if you have one ounce of curiosity.

I have made several attempts at playing this game and am always left defeated as a human being. That unbearable intro/tutorial/prologue whatever the fuck you wanna call it is the most disgusting self indulgent pretentious faggot circle jerk I have ever seen in my life. Does this "game" become fun at some point when the faggots who made it stop blowing thier own dicks? Just awful.

Stick with it, it's a truly incredible achievement by everyone involved. I think it's the only game I've played that truly deserves the "AAAA" marketing tag.

Being spoiled on the "twist" doesn't matter - what matters is the writing and how they had Arthur and everyone around him react to it.

Some of the epilogue final missions are truly incredible because of all the setup they do with Arthur.

IMO the game's hunting is pretty fun and comfy but sadly there isn't much use for the crafting unless you're playing with some survival mods or some shit. I don't think you can make anything unique (don't really remember tho, last I played was 3 years ago), and the outfits kinda suck. Plus if you're crafting custom bullets you have to craft 1 at a time and see the animations (lel).

Also do try out different ammo types - they have an effect on gore & enemy ragdolls and also change gun sounds (slightly).

The free-roam part of the game, the whole another game of it within. Is amazing (I imagine especially so with mods). But the story mode "game" is cringe-inducing all around and too rail-roaded gameplay wise. Means shit. I seriously dunno guys how are you able to enjoy it. For one Arthur is such a bitch it's unreal.

I also imagine multiplayer could be very fun too

Linear design doesn't bother me. I don't go into Rockstar games expecting a role playing games with choice and consequence. It's that simple. The few moments of reactivity or choice are appreciated, but they're not expected.

I think you fags should evaluate games by what they're trying to do, not get mad that they aren't catering to your specific expectations. Seriously some of the complaints I read in the RDR2 thread sounded like someone that boots up gran turismo and gets ultra mad that it's not a Total War game or a sequel to BurnOut.

Well, there's at least two conditional ways for that. First, lets call the Bethesda road for the retards is when you are specifically told what to do at every specific moment and you do it like a fucking bot. Then yeah there's an RPG approach, even though it doesn't have to be tied to this genre or even be old-school: you're given an objective, maybe hint or two and then you're left to yourself as to how you want to do this or that. RDR 2 represents the worsts of both ways: you're always within very tight frame but also not always explicitly told what to do, sometimes to absurd degree. Sorry can't give you examples, memory is too vague on that but I remember I was pissed hard when I wanted to sneak past some dudes while I was suppose to go guns blazing and vice versa. Something like that. Oh and of course there's also that game over screen when you do a few fuckings steps in a wrong direction. Jesus, give me another cut scene then instead of this wankery. In general, RDR 2 feels very often as if it tries to be a TV DAMN SHOW and annoyed at me, humble player who wants to be in control at least a little bit. Fuck, I get annoyed even when starting to remember stuff.

Also yes I'm no expert at all on Rockstar games but very well remember a vid from some true fan who heavily criticized this very decline of theirs as if allegedly in previous games there was much more player's freedom.

What video was that? Was it the famousy NakeyJakey video where he compares it to Fallout New Vegas and past Rockstar titles (while cherry picking footage and examples of past games)?
'Cause that grifter retard recently put out a video saying he was wrong about RDR2 and it's probably R*'s best game ever lol.

Yeah it's him. What a clown then. Either way, at the time his comparison arguments seemed legit to me.

This is one of the only good things I remember about RDR2. I may replay it in the future with better hardware, as it's surely a looker, but will definitely need to play with mods. The vanilla game is way too casual, annoying to replay as-is.

Rdr 2 is "casual" but not all games need to be "hardcore" to be enjoyable.
