Oooh, it's like a puzzle. Let's see, maybe an anagram?

Realms of Arkania comes back with

afrikaans morale
alaskan aeriform
forsake malarian
forsaken malaria

Afrikaans, malaria... clearly something to do with Africa.

Why are they even trying to work on it? Isn't it totally trainwrecked anyway at this point? The word is out. Game is shit. Why do they bother?

Judging from the amount of "is it playable yet?" posts, a lot of people haven't completely given up on this game yet, me included.

Yea, well, taking a well-designed old game and making a remake with good interface sounds too good... and simple as a plan: not much brainstorm, no writers, just code the damn stuff again and sell. But even with such an "operation cannot possibly fail" plan, they failed.

Well, well, look who got a clue: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/36470/

Buy Realms of Arkania Trilogy Classic Bundle
$9.99 USD

and there goes another of GOG's exclusives.

Anyone who knows german should try to get the "Heldenedition" on disk, it's containing all 3 games in the german version, including a fully working Startrail version (for a while you could only buy one without correctly working CD audio that was stuck in beginners mode).
It's already patched and thoroughly tested by the community.

If it's still available that is - it used to get sold for ~15 bucks in retail.

I haven't been following this whole fiasco, but how could someone even release a game with even the most basic features missing? Is it early access alpha/beta or the "full" game? What the shit?

Free BoD-themed expansion released:

Thorwal lies on the cold northwestern coast of Aventuria: a rugged slip of land inhabited by an equally rugged seafaring folk. The striped sails of their dragon boats are known – and feared – along the Aventurian coasts.

If you’re brave and fortunate enough to visit the Thorwalians in their homeland on the Gulf of Prem, though, you’ll find another picture. True, they’re a rough and rowdy folk, but they’re also hearty, welcoming and warm.
With the addition of Thorwal, the browser-based MMORPG Herokon Online gains not only a new region from the world of The Dark Eye for players level 25 and up – it also gains legions of new monsters and scores of exciting challenges.

And a very special surprise awaits fans of the Blade of Destiny: they’ll meet old friends and experience the next chapter in one of Aventuria’s most exciting adventures.

Details:

On the northern shore of the Gulf of Prem lays the once-feared Daspota. Its bloodthirsty pirates were defanged 20 years ago by Hetman Tronde Torbensson, but rumors persist that sea bandits still use Daspota as their base... Another place of murky repute is the island of Hjalland, on which some years ago a cult of the Nameless One sacrificed people in unholy rituals. And here, too, the rumors have not ceased: dark figures are still said to haunt the ruins of the old temple.

https://www.herokon-online.com/en/news/2014/new-region-thorwal

After 20 years of waiting, the story finally continues - exclusively in Herokon Online!

You gotta give credit where credit is due. This game has some of the most entertaining patch notes I've ever seen.

Incredible. Does this game actually still sell?

They must have some kind of contract that makes it profitable for them to continually patch the game, but who the fuck is buying it? They would have been so much better off in Early Access instead of this. Maybe it's some kind of tax loophole.

The game is supposed to have a console release, so they're building up to that. After that happens, I wouldn't be surprised to see it suddenly and completely die.

I remember them guys saying something about having contracts/rights to remake all three and basically they have no option otherwise.

Well, I'll buy it if it eventually becomes available in a playable and DRM free state.
But I'm not holding my breath...

Contracts can be got out of or "interpreted" to mean something you never expected.

M Night Shyamalan got a deal to make a trilogy of Air Bender movies, it's been 4 years and I haven't heard anything about the 2nd one.

I tried this atrocity couple of patches ago, just to see it for myself how big of a wreck this remake actually is, and after a few hours I couldn't take it anymore. Do yourself a favor, play the original; do NOT touch this pile of shite with a 10-foot pole. Seriously.

I'd pay good money to play the original unpatched release. It looks like a great comedy game.

So do any of the poor sobs who actually bought this feel like doing an LP? This game seems like it has high potential for lulz.

I played the game a number of times when it was still in that patch-a-day mode and every enemy was a skeleton and all characters carried crossbows and the art looked like someone had taken a firehose to a pottery barn... when battlemaps were floorless or would have enemies fall through the ground causing the maps to get stuck in an infinite loop or the bizarre stacking of enemies feet-on-shoulder and the surreal, fragmented voice acting and oh god the flashbacks... Not fun. And note I said I played the game several times because it kept bugging out and losing progress. I also could not for the life of me get the game to launch consistently, having to use ridiculous methods to get the damn thing to work, and even more Ocean's Eleven heist machinations to run it in English or, at the very least, 50% English. My breaking point was when I finally got a decent clip into the game, spent forty-five real-life minutes crossing the mountain range, saved, then returned to a corrupted file. Pretty sure I physically gagged at that point.

Codex's review of it was pretty much spot on. I actually wrote about three or four copies of a review for the game myself, but I feel like Roxor nailed it. He also took the game on like a champ. The Watch's review was just flatout irresponsible journalism.
