Which apparently some of which people are furious about. Apparently the screen-printing of the cloth map is awful.I doubt they are giving 10% of digital sales to Paradox, since Paradox didn't really do much for them besides a little marketing and physical distribution.
Frankly, I wouldn't discount Retail, especially for an "Old-school RPG" in Germany, Poland, UK etc.I wouldn't discount GoG, a fair amount of people prefer the non-DRM option.
They give around 10% to paradox, international taxes are far higher, and vanilla pillars is 40-45 dollars average worldwide.x 15 dollars.
How did you get to that number from 50$ base price? It's known Valve take 30% and California's sales tax is what 8%?
But yes they may even go as high as 20-25 dollars depending on America sales, but I was calculating the worst case scenario net profit, which still makes them very happy.

Steam is the "retailer" and they collect VAT in the EU at least, probably other places too. So the government gets its cut of PoE.They give around 10% to paradox, international taxes are far higher, and vanilla pillars is 40-45 dollars average worldwide.x 15 dollars.

I don't think they pay other taxes beside US ones as there is the company located. My guess is 50% minimum is going their way.Russian key market is maybe 5% max so the godly 10$ new games price is overrated. When talking about 3th worldia in EU all prices are the same-40 euro for Pillars

For digital sales in the EU you are required to collect VAT based on the buyer's country of residence. But aren't they in Luxemburg or some other tax heaven?
It's not Obsidian that pays the VAT, but the customers. Steam as the retailer is required to collect it on behalf of the government every time someone in the EU buys a game.Yeah ,it seems it's that way from 1 January this year.Still can't see how that is related to Obsidian,as they pay taxes in US.I see it as Steam problem and how they sign the contracts with developers.Does they buy the license at fixed price and then resell it?More knowledgeable person would be better to write how that works.
Now that I think it ,it's all the same for Valve just price will be different for every eu country with different VAT.So if they want to keep prices the same it's going to be at their expenses.
Steam does set their prices so that the sum of price+VAT is the same in every Euro country, which means that the "real" price varies from country to country.

You can turn that off from the game's properties, accessed with right-click on your game in the library.[..]I wouldn't discount GoG, a fair amount of people prefer the non-DRM option.
non-DRM is one thing
non-autopatch is another. Been a fervent steam user for years but not being able to prevent auto patching drives me crazy enough to give GoG a try.
