So glad to see Obsidians hard work finally pay off. I have no idea what #1 on Steam actually means in sales numbers, but it has to be huge right?

It means it's the most purchased game at the moment. Quantifying that figure is a different matter entirely. It's certainly not a bad thing at all. Just the extra amount of people who see the game because it's number one and then go on to buy it will be a difference maker.

Interesting. Does anyone know how quickly Divinity:OS got to #1, and how that turned out sales wise?

It's beating GTA V and Cities: Skylines (which launched last week and apparently sold 250k on its first day), so it's doing very well.

Personally I think the bigger indicator of success will be how long it stays in the top ten after reviews and release date. At the moment this is all just pre-orders.

Exactly. 1 Week in top 3 and we can call it a success. Not a huge success, but let's say ~300.000 copies sold.

Speaking of which, I'm predicting solid reviews for a crpg. Especially since mainstream youtubers such as Angry Joe will reach an audience that doesn't pay attention to this genre.

I'd still consider PoE as a niche game though. Don't think it'll be able to compete with mainstreams for long.
I'm cool with that though. An iso top-down ultra text heavy party based RPG without any existing/known license reaching that state is decent enough for me.

Schreier or whatever his name is on Kotaku tweeted that it is a must play. That kind of publicity probably generates a lot of sales.

The result of 40000 backers unlocking their games on Steam. It was smart of Obsidian to wait until the last day to hand the keys out.

Nope. It's people buying it. Steam's chart counts money earned, not copies sold or unlocked.

300k copies at full price is $10m. 300k copies would be a huge success.

(steam takes a 30% cut, cheapest version is $45)

I was hoping for a launcher, like The Witcher games have. The (potentially) delayed and frequent patches keep me on Steam when it comes to new games.
Just as a general note to no one in particular, I always find launchers annoying. I double clicked the damn icon, start the game already.
