hows the overall difficulty? i read alot that you dont actually loose any men......
On Legendary difficulty as first time player going in blind you are going to be losing men a bunch no matter how good you think you are. Lots of enemies got Gotcha abilities that if you don't know how they work and how to battle vs them, they will kill your soldiers. Kind of like how original UFO worked where you bunched up all your guys to cover reaction fire in all directions and then on alien turn here comes an alien grenade over something where you could not see and everyone is dead :D
Or your rocket guy gets mind controlled by a sectoid commander that is on other side of the map and he blows up everyone inside the Skyranger :)
PP is not as bad as that but I have seen new players screeming unfair for 1 year now as they meet some of the enemies and what they can do.
Have they fixed the super hero abilities?

I never encountered anything like that cause I multi classed everything with the assault class. Especially assault/berserker was insanely op.

Really liked the skills in the earlier Backer Builds. The assault mobility skill gave just 2AP that you could use for anything. Than it became a superhero skill were you just zip around the battlefield.

There was also the berserker skill that let you shoot 3AP weapons for 1AP. And that one skill that gave you AP's back when you killed an enemy.

How do these skills work now? Are there still op skills?

Most OP stuff was nerfed.
Dash now costs 1 AP and 3 WP and gives you 2 AP worth of movement. So it cannot be abused anymore. Speed bonuses from items and max speed from leveling have also been nerfed so you are no longer covering whole map in one turn by abusing dash.
Adrenaline Rush (berserker ability) still makes all attacks 1 AP for 1 turn but gives 50% accuracy penalty and makes your guy dazed on his next turn (so you lose whole next turn as a result). Armor Break was also nerfed, now it costs 4 WP, reduces 30 armor (it was 50 before) and if you got multiple attacks then no longer each of them reduces that value but total is 30.
Assault lvl 7 ability gives AP back when you kill someone. That one is mostly unchanged, it still gives 2 AP back per kill but since dash costs 1 AP it is no longer a free move and speed nerfs make it impossible to clear more than smaller groups.

Also shotguns had their base damage nerfed, iconoclast does 35 instead of 40 and all damage perks were heavily nerfed so you are not longer just one shot shotgunning everyone left and right. To really use that assault ability you need to soften your targets first with other characters.
Lvl 7 Heavy ability no longer murders big single targets from other side of the map but now it works like in beta build, it covers an AoE and spends all ammo to hit multiple targets inside that area.

Things that were not nerfed is Boom Blast of Heavy that lets you lob two grenades and a rocket in one turn. Then Infiltrator Sneak Attack still gives 2x damage if you are in stealth (which was made a bit weaker with patches) and Technician's Turrets still deal incredible damage and now you can manually control them (as well as Infiltrator's drones).

Taka-Haradin puolipeikko What are the DLCs like? Story campaigns or just new mechanics like in nuXCOM? Or just some skins and hats and other retarded cosmetics?
I've noticed couple minor factions and some story missions with them that might be DLC-stuff.
I'll have to look up if DLCs add any mechanics into game; this is 1st time I'm touching this game since pre-Epic store test-versions.

Grab the Codex by the pussy
It's been a long time since I've been so on the fence about a game, and as others have noticed, this thread isn't helpful at all in making a decision.

As usual, the solution is probably to fire up OpenXCom, just as scratching a 4X itch calls for firing up SMAC, scratching a tycoon itch calls for firing up OpenTTD, scratching a classic cRPG itch calls for firing up Exult or Wiz8, etc.

I wanted Xenonauts to be the solution, but I've been on the fence about that for six years.

Stopped caring about this game when they went from horror to just another clean and shiny boring nu-xcom shit.

Does anyone else wish PP had just been a literal shot-for-shot remake of X-Com, but with modern graphics, UI design, and mod support?

PP obviously takes a lot of inspiration from nuXCOM and they also tried some innovations, a lot of which hasn't really worked and wasn't even what people wanted to begin with from a Gollop X-Com game in current year.

I wish we had gotten the game that was originally pitched, but I'd take a graphically updated xcom over the waste of potential we got now any day

Tried before buying this a few times during the Epic release, generally never found it pulled me in enough. The handful of things changed for Year One helped a bit, I'm actually feeling somewhat invested now and really digging the tactical game.

But by God I find the geoscape to be boring as a sack of potatoes. Let me build some fucking salvage teams on those empty sites or something. Give me shit to do that isn't farming reputation.

Explore all unknown locations, that is enough shit to do.

Madeleine though.
I'm not going to ask too many questions if he's willing to fight coming base invasion without armor.
TBH
Some armor came available to him because casualties I took on haven defense missions.
Sirens are nasty, not chrysallid nasty, but still nasty.

You have not met this game's crysallids yet. You will know them when you meet them

Yes. Clear a lot of pandoran bases and you gain reputation with all 3 factions. It is easier on higher difficulties to do this due to more pandoran bases being spawned.

Got into the groove now on my second playthrough. Really enjoying it. I like the struggle for resources, it's a constant battle getting just enough for the stuff I want to build. Also how the world changes dynamically is fun to see, how the virus spreads out etc. Just wish the other factions did a bit more, maybe help out taking out some lairs and stuff. I always dread doing those, they take forever with no payout except rep. Said it earlier in the thread, but I find the setting pretty good. It's this melancholic feeling of doom. The characters/voice acting and the text snippets in general are good and interesting.

NJ does that later when they develop tech to discover them. And you can join the battle and fight together.
