Well since they're wrapping things up, I should start thinking about getting back to this.

oh....my wrath is righteous...
Damn. And here I was thinking about starting to play it. Ah well, another 6 months then.

Even if they make it mechanically more interesting, golden dragon still SUUUCCKKSS thematically. It's like being a goody two shoes angel but with extra hypocrisy and without the cool factor of "lets smite evil with righteous fire".

Every single encounter with the golden dragons make them look like hypocritical idiots:
  1. When first encountering Hal, he (in human disguise) begs you to spare a cultist's life. The cultist openly admits that he is not going to change his ways if spared and will continue his murder/rape/human sacrifice routine, which is a perfectly valid reason to smite evil his ass, even for a LG palading-type character. Not sparing him makes Hal call you an asshole and blocks the golden dragon mythic path forever.

  2. If you go along and spare the cultist, Hal spends 20 minutes explaining his golden dragon philosophy of "i'm like super wise and compassionate and my earthly mission is to help humans, that's why I will never join your war against the objectively evil demons, but I will continue to provide healing to both sides. Killing cultists is evil too, you know :)".

    A few dozen hours later during the second battle for Drezen he breaks his own vows of neutrality and appears to fight alongside you. When asked why, he just goes "Oh I just sensed that you were a golden dragon too, so I came to help my kin". So, apparently, it's okay to kill demons to help a fellow dragon, but fighting demons to defend humans, of whom Hal is a self-proclaimed protector, is bad. Alright dude.

  3. If you choose to follow path of the golden dragon, the first quest given to you by Hal is helping a bunch of random people with their small problems, which is supposed to teach you humility and that sometimes you should stop doing the grand important thing you're busy with (saving the world from demons, duh) and help the common people with their everyday problems. Which would be okay at introducing you to the golden dragon philosophy, if it didn't turn out that ALL THE COMMON FOLK YOU HAVE BEEN HELPING WERE ACTUALLY DRAGONS IN DISGUISE TOYING WITH YOU.

    This honestly made me wonder if the golden dragons were purposefully written to be hypocrites, because going from "you should drop whatever you are doing and help the villagers collect the flowers (on the other side of the country), because helping smallfolk is what we dragons do" to "lol there were no villagers it was just other golden dragons having fun at your expense" is retarded to say the least.
Oh, and of course the canonic golden dragon choice of forgiving areelu vorlesh at the end of the game :smug: .

I had the same problem with it as I did with Arueshalae's plotline. Her entire arc is "oh I used to be evil and mind-raped people to make them commit atrocities against their loved ones and condemned their souls to eternal damnation, but now I NO LONGER WANT TO BE EVIL and want like a peaceful life in a forest cabin and tea parties with friends, which makes me good". IMO, her good ending should have been a sacrifice where she actually chooses to undo the evil she has commited as a succubus, and not just having a pretty tea party in a dream that magically changes her alignment to good, lol.

It seems like pathfinder/owlcat writers completely missed the whole point of redemption requiring some sort of a self-sacrifice to atone for the sins that you have commited in the past, and not merely declaring "i don't want to be evil anymore" like Michael Scott from The Office saying "I declare bancrupcy" out loud and thinking this removes loan obligations from him somehow.

This obviouslty comes from a warped concept of morality that is used in DnD/Pathfinder, where the "goodness" and "evilness" are innate characteristics of one's soul, and not the reflections of the choices one made in his past.

On the internet, writing shit posts.
That just sounds like woke writing, imo.
I don't know if Owlcat is to blame, or if they're just trying to remain faithful to the source material, imo.

Anyway, finally tried doing a necromancer eldritch knight build. Did it on Beneath Stolen lands because I found it's nice for testing builds.
It's a bit shit. It's really not worth going for necro knight because I spent most of the time sitting in the back and casting spells, and most high level necro spells have a decent range. All it did was make me a slightly better bowman and maybe help land ennervation.

As someone from reddit explains:

That's because Gold Dragon is a pseudo pacficist.
Pacifism is an inherently hypocritical philosophy.
Gold Dragon's philosophy is 50% redemptionism and 50% pacificism.
It's a nasty moonshine of cognitive dissonance.

I believe this is consistent with Gold Dragons in Pathfinder cannon, cause they are known to ally with evil dragons and abandon good dragons when they feel like so.

Eh, I don't care about dragons. I simply refuse to invest my time into an unfinished product, unless I know definitively that it is abandoned for good. That's my personal stance against DLConomics (my other personal stance against DLConomics is pirating the shit out of it).

Update 2.5.0y
Hello, crusaders!

An update 2.5.0y is here!

Highlights:
  • The Gold Dragon mythic path has spread its wings: multiple mechanical improvements, visual updates, 2 new dragon-themed religions - Apsu and Dahak, the ability to turn some characters' lives towards redemption and more!
If you are playing with mods, don’t forget to update them before loading your saves! Old version 2.4.1i will remain available via the beta tab in Steam for mod users.

Beware of possible plot spoilers below!

Areas

  • A party from The Lord of Nothing DLC appeared in Drezen's Tavern even if the player followed the Swarm Mythic Path — fixed;
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the rest on Azata Island to break;
  • Fixed incorrect completion of the Dance of Masks DLC for Swarm-that-Walks. Previously, players after visiting Razmir could get to the Kenabres square and get stuck. Now, players will be transported to the global map as they should have been;
  • Players that were left in the square without being able to leave it will be transferred to the global map as soon as they load the save. Also, player characters that mistakenly entered the arena through the square will be transferred to the global map;
  • Fixed the gathering of Crusader supplies for a full rest during the siege of Drezen;
  • In Areelu's Laboratory in the Chapter 5, attempting the stairs (accessed with the Crystal Key item) will now carry the entire party to its beginning, rather than one participant at a time;
  • Miammir did not come to Drezen in chapter 5 — fixed;
  • Ramien did not come to Drezen in chapter 5 — fixed;
  • Ramien could stand in the camp in the Threshold even for the Swarm that Walks mythic path — fixed;
  • The crusaders appeared in the Threshold even if the player have chosen the Swarm That Walked Mythic Path — fixed;
  • The dialogues in Drezen with Chun Dawei, Hulrun, Nystra, Ciar and Klaem in Chapter 5 were not showing correctly — fixed;
  • The Inheritor' Hand is no longer located in the Ivory Sanctum after being encountered in Drezen;
  • The passage to the secret room on one of the islands in The Treasure of the Midnight Isles DLC did not appear — fixed;
  • When killing the boss Drimo in the arena in A Dance of Masks DLC by a character under the effect of Phoenix Gift, the character does not die from the curse and further passage of the arena is blocked — fixed;
  • You can now attempt to leave the dialogue with two oreads troubled with picking flags for the festival in A Dance of Masks DLC;
  • After talking to Greybor in Drezen's Tavern in the Chapter 3 and hiring him into the team, the wrong dialogue was playing — fixed.

Quests

  • Anevia disappeared after leaving the basement in Drezen, where the commander was called by Camellia, and it was impossible to complete the quest — fixed;
  • Fixed the opportunity to take a quest from Gverm if the player kicked out Camellia, who was needed for the quest;
  • Fye the Tavern Keeper would show up at the tavern even if he had previously been sent to jail — fixed;
  • Nocticula no longer interrupts dialog during the quest with Sosiel's brother.

Items

  • Gloves of Neophyte didn't work with Ignition spell - fixed;
  • Ring of sharp strike didn't work correctly - fixed.

Crusade

  • Ash Giants become more dangerous.

Classes & Mechanics

  • There have been some changes to the Faceless Sphinx encounter:
    1) We've made Areshkagal stop disguising herself as a super-powered sphinx, and now her primary class is an outsider;
    2) By sacrificing to cosmic entities, we've also managed to weaken the Faceless Sphinx's body somewhat (however, many of us paid for this with our lives and sanity);
    3) Despite all our efforts (or because of them), Areshkagal now correctly creates copies of herself in the first phase of the encounter with her;
    4) The abilities and behavior of elemental Areshkagal in the third encounter phase have been significantly improved;
    5) Now you only need to use Midnight Bolt to drop a Nahyndrian Crystal for the secret ending on the last surviving Areshkagal in the third encounter phase;
  • Arcane bond now works correctly;
  • Bloodseeker's Enervation spell now works correctly and imposes negative levels;
  • Defeating ghosts in the Visitors from Morta DLC granted the wrong amount of experience - fixed;
  • Edge of Force and Explosive Runes now work correctly;
  • Enveloping Winds prerequisite for Aerial Evasion didn't work correctly — fixed;
  • Expose Vulnerability ability now works correctly;
  • Fixed lava damage on low health on low difficulty levels;
  • Fixed the difficulty display for saving throws from a flock of dead crows in the Carrion Storm ability;
  • Fixed the logic of applying the “Commander's Banner” effect; now it is applied correctly, and also does not apply if the banner was lost;
  • Hellknight Signifer now removes armor speed penalty on 3-rd level instead of 8-th;
  • Oracle Flame Curse now removes armor speed penalty on 10-th level instead of 1-th;
  • Warpriest Aspect of War now correctly removes armor and encumbrance speed penalties;
  • Inciter's (Skald archetype) "Hit a Nerve" ability now correctly removes the armor penalty if the character has the "Mythic Inspiration" mythic ability;
  • Kitsune in a human form could bite — fixed;
  • Mythic Armor Focus (Light Armor) — Endurance now correctly shows the spell resistance;
  • Mythic Armor Focus (Medium Armor) — Assault feat now deals piercing damage instead of slashing;
  • Now the Divine Hunter who chose the Animal domain at level 1 can correctly choose bonuses to the characteristics of his animal companion;
  • Sense Vitals spell was displayed twice in the Wizard spellbook;
  • Spindle infusion had wrong costs which resulted in inability to use it with advanced blasts in some cases — fixed;
  • The Bound of Possibility cloak now doesn't give a penalty to the Trickster;
  • The entire party will now receive the “Commander's Banner” effect when leaving the Areelu's Lab, not just the player character;
  • The Greedy Mystic Spell Eater (a little dragon summoned by the Arcane Undertow of the Midnight Islands) ate too little, causing its stats to drop. We fixed it, and little fellow is now functioning correctly;
  • The Prophet of Pestilence's Thousand Diseases ability now has the correct saving throw DC;
  • The Spirit Naga form granted by the Sorcerer's Serpentine Bloodline now has the correct venom saving throw DC and bite damage;
  • Tortured crusader could keep Alone in the Dark ability after respec — fixed;

  • Magic Nullification mythic ability now correctly makes the character immune to magic.

UI

  • Added prerequisite for Spell Specialization Feat;
  • It was impossible to spend a skillpoint into Intelligence for the Animal Companion — fixed;
  • Nahyndrian crystal was displayed in the interface without the important item frame - fixed;
  • Now you can choose the Vordakai portrait for the Lich path.

Cool, I wish they didn't lock one of the most fun fights in the game behind the worst character's personal quest and the worst most sloggiest puzzle-heavy dungeon, though.

What's fun about it? Apparently it was much harder at release, but it was "golddragoned" (nerfed) somehow before I reached it for the first time :(

Also it seems they nerfed it again by the reading the 2nd point

What's the current meta on pets? I had a quick look yesterday and it seems they've changed quite a lot somewhere along the way, like, leopard does not get dex to dmg anymore?

Is pet armor worth it?

Pet armor is worth for a really brief time act 2 , by early act 3 you can have so many buff that armor quickly becomes obsolete.

Dogs are still the best , but Boars have a ok niche now and iirc Elks are okay for a charge build because of their extra damage.

Update 2.5.0aa
Hello, crusaders!

A hotfix 2.5.0aa is here!

We fixed some bugs regarding sacred weapons that may have become more holy than expected, and made the dragon form non-dispellable.

It also appears that there recently was a miscommunication with assigning the corrupted version of the Gold Dragon to be Chaotic Evil. According to the vision of the narrative team, a corrupted Gold Dragon as portrayed in the game is still balancing on the edge and has a chance to turn back, not yet having given in to the evil completely. Their correct alignment at this point would be True Neutral, and we’re changing that accordingly.

If you are playing with mods, don’t forget to update them before loading your saves!

Classes & Mechanics
  • Some auras, such as those from The Covenant of the Inheritor, were retaining their effects after being turned off - fixed;
  • Sword of Radiance sometimes duplicated its effect after loading a savegame - fixed;
  • Both Gold Dragon forms now cannot be dispelled;
  • Corrupted Gold Dragon’s alignment was switched to True Neutral in accordance with the vision of the narrative team;

Owlcat approves!
Greetings, Pathfinders!

With the release of the Game of the Year Edition, we want to take a moment to look back at the journey we’ve been through and once again thank our community for actively participating in the life of the game. We’ll talk more about your impact on the game later, but today, we want to focus on the work of content creators. Thanks to mods, the game begins to shine in entirely new ways! So, in this article, we’ve decided to showcase the most popular mods for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and commend their creators for their incredible work!

Toybox
It would be strange to talk about mods without mentioning the most popular one! ToyBox is a mod that includes over 500 improvements, cheats, and features. With ToyBox, players can diversify the character creation process, edit companions, enchant and recolor items, and even modify armies and various aspects of the Crusade. This mod enhances the game’s variety, highlights countless role-playing possibilities, and simplifies interaction with the interface.

Bubbles Ultimate Buff
Pathfinder is a system that demands deep understanding and intense focus. Before every battle, you often spend a lot of time reviewing available spells and manually applying all the necessary buffs. Bubbles Ultimate Buff is a mod that allows you to set up automatic casting of buffs for your entire party. No more reloading saves just because you forgot to use Bless on your team in advance. Press one button, and you’re ready for battle!

Enhanced Inventory
For those of us who love to hoard everything down to the last wooden spoon, navigating the inventory can be exhausting. Searching for a single spell scroll, especially if you’ve forgotten its exact name, can be quite a challenge. If you’ve faced this problem, the Enhanced Inventory mod is just what you need. It makes navigating your inventory a breeze, allowing you to easily sort through various categories of collected items.

Expanded Epilogue
No matter how hard we try to account for every possible turn of events in our epilogues, sometimes players wish for a happier ending or a more detailed conclusion. With the Expanded Epilogue mod, those dreams come true! Enjoy reading enriched and expanded epilogues!

Camellia Romance Expanded
While we believe that Camellia’s romance should stay within the boundaries of her character and worldview, we understand that some players might long for… more tenderness and love from this character. Thanks to this mod, you’ll get 20 additional unique romance endings with Camellia and extra portraits. The mod creators collaborated with the artist behind Camellia’s original in-game portrait, so the new portraits blend seamlessly with the game’s style. If this is what you’re looking for, we’re willing to turn a blind eye—and we promise not to sneak any severed heads into your inventory!

Woljif Romance Mod
Much like with Camellia, the creators of this character envisioned a specific path for his development. That’s why our game doesn’t include a romance option for the cunning tiefling. However, in his endless thievery, Woljif might just steal your heart along the way. His charm can captivate anyone, making you wish for more private moments with him. If that’s the case, we recommend checking out the mod that adds a full-fledged romance with Woljif. The mod’s creator has skillfully captured Woljif’s personality, and we’re thrilled to see how he shines in a new light through this romance.

We’ve shared what we believe are the most outstanding mods, but we’re sure there’s so much more we missed. Let us know in the comments which mods you’re using!

And don’t forget to update your mods whenever new patches for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous are released. Outdated mods can cause bugs and issues, so be sure to keep everything up to date!
