I don't know about that. JRPGs tend to have far different ways of doing things. It is a cultural thing, I believe. I defy any WRPG that comes up with the dream-in-reality that was FF10 or the whole Thanatos pileup that was Suikoden5.
Nah. You are talking about big and famous guys like ff or dragon quest. Overall jrpgs are niche. Even western tumbler indies have bigger exposure than most japanese games because their authors and journalists fucks each other.
Here's something that goes against everything I know about games: notice how the combat log retains info from you last save?. I've got a trickery score of 34 and I can't spot a trap, it does over 100 dam to my party and kills Linzi outright. So I reload and she's no longer in my party. When she's died in the past, this has happened because of that stupid ring she wears, but a reload has always fixed it - except here she's still on the screen, but removed from the party.
So I'm assuming the game carries info of her death from the previous save? Like it does info from the previous game' combat log?.
It's kinda annoying now, because I've gotta go back about 1+1/2 hr of gaming, and the area it was in
had a primal shambling mound that could only be killed with an inflict wounds spell with a 50% average fail chance because area spell failure
I'm thinking of just chucking Linzi out of the party after this.
Don't know if it was possible to have kept Tartuccio, but I kinda liked that guy. And I'm thinking I might not reload the next time Linzi gets burned to ash

JRPG it's cultural thing indeed, but arrogant idiots who came up on forums to brag about how JRPG product OBJECTIVELY (like art can be measured by some golden standard, lol) better than anything else, forget about it and claim that these games fit to everyone.
I don't think that anyone interested to listen a details about western dev's sexual life here right now, at least not from a guy who came in this forum to suck his own dick and stroke his own ego.
If western rpgs was so bad, I don't think anyone need "expert" like you to write this. But they aren't, and you can't handle a thought that anyone have different tastes.

Well I am pushing my way through the house at the end of time now. My initial strategy of Tsunami and Horrid Wilting has been discarded as their fortitude saves are too high to throw them back with Tsunami. I am now using a slightly different approach of "Wall of Boogymen" and Horrid Wilting. It seems to work ok, but occasionally my game crashes when this happens:
You won't need it for long. I am soloing with this setup and very quickly your smilodon will build up enough strength to carry everything, I have a carrying capacity of 10,000 and a similar amount of strength. I am actually regretting not stat dumping down to 7.

Yup, and they both work like shit. Maybe my game is bonkers idk, but even if I boost a skill after failing a check, the game refuses to let me redo it unless I exit the map and come back which is pretty sucky.

Trying to post on goddamn crap country bandwidth ... I worded that badly, I've to a perception of 32, Harrim has 18, Jaethal 28 and they all failed to spot it. When I reloaded the map I had no issue whatsoever. I'm assuming it's a bug as I had a similiar issue elsewhere (although I spotted the trap) but it failed to load the trap outline and had to walk through it at a significant xp loss.
The real reason jrpgs get higher scores is because they tend to have better production values and less bugs. Also they are perfectly suitable games for their target audience: 12 year olds.
One thing many don't seem to get is that Japanese people avoid playing video games in adulthood, at least non-mobile phone games. Their games are generally designed for kids and teenagers, which is why in jrpgs teenager hero trope is so common...
On the other hand, most western rpgs tend to have poor production values, shitty quality assurance, and they don't even understand their own audience: They design games for 12 year olds while their audience are mainly 35 year old grumpy old veterans like myself. LOL.
Feels like I'm doing something wrong. People say you finish the game at about level 17. I've been that level before entering Pitax Palace, and then some.
Then again, I do take every skill check.
Here's a fun bug: rarely, but every so often, Linzi casts "Freedom of Movement" there's a small chance for her to be removed from the party. You can still select her by clicking on her but her portrait disappears from the bottom row.
