Early game very strongly pushes you to be a 20 strength 2H melee beefcake. Every other build you can pick is garbaggio in comparison
I dunno, I did some nice things with my druid's protection from energy, and activated xp for those who uses skill so my Lindzi already can cast stuff like glitterdust and was quite instrumental in a few fights with her CC spells.
The problem is that companion roster simply lacks 1 more good heavy hitter.

The positioning-flanking was left out during development afaik; one of loading screen tooltips says - you attack with 2 characters = flanking.
Why the fuck would they leave that out? It's one of the most important aspects of combat. Are these developers fucking retarded?
Positioning, AoOs and cleave only really work in a turn-based implementation of D&D3.5. RTwP shit always has to make compromises. Why would this game be different?

BTW I don't like that the menu drives my GPU nuts to 100% usage and VSync seems not to apply at all. Anyone got a fix for this?

Had to use an external program to force FPS to 60. Forcing VSync via NVIDIA control panel does not work. I don't like 100% usage on my GPU for a fucking menu screen. I'm not playing The Witcher 3 here.

BTW 60fps is 76% GPU usage. My guess is there's something FUCKING WRONG with the menu. Watch your GPU temps on this game, ESPECIALLY THE SUPPOSEDLY HARMLESS MENUS as it turns out.

Yes, I will play on hard. Fuck this earth and everyone in it.

One way to control random GPU usage spikes and temp spikes is to use a frame-rate limiter. No, I'm not joking, and yes, this works 100%. Limiting it to 57 or 58fps will ensure your GPU usage/temps don't spike in situations like the above where some random handle/thread goes crazy when opening in-game menu.

EDIT: This is because the more frames a GPU has to render the more it is taxed, regardless of what is actually displayed on-screen.

Yes, I use RTSS for everything, but it's still depressing to see every single fucking Unity game being released with this bug. Fuck this piece of shit engine.

Anyway, on the subject of the game: looks alright (pretty bland art and horrible portraits notwithstanding), plays OK, but I have to say I'm enjoying playing BT4 a lot more - and this is from someone that doesn't really mind RTwP all that much. I've played and finished all of the IE games multiple times and IwD is one of my favourite games ever.

The setup is kind of clever (with the party splitting up early on), alignment seems to be well implemented and they're trying to hit the right notes - guess I'm just too jaded and everything's too transparent. I do appreciate the lack of purple prose compared to PoE and the likes, however, and it's refreshing going back to a system that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but at the same time I don't think the game feels as snappy as IE. Something feels off.

First impressions: the game looks good and the combat is brutal. C&C is present.

I started on hard but I switched to challenging because I found no way to kill the first "random" encounter (3 wolves). *sigh*

To be honest, I got wiped like 20+ times already. The beginning is really brutal without a healer.

There are time limits. Not only the first major quest has a time limit of 3 months but there are time limited quests. This will definitely enrage some people.

I've reached the first dungeon and it's quite big.

I think people which enjoyed BGs will most likely enjoy this game. It's categorically better than PoE.

the thing that is so sad about PoE to me is that it is beautiful and well made, but the sawyer homemade RPG system is both unnecessary and ruins the entire experience. I think Sawyer and Obsidian cost themselves a lot of money by not using D20 based system. The amount of extra work not only has no payoff but it actually detracts or completely ruins the game. Make PoE D&D based, it suddenly becomes a completely different and superior experience. But Sawyer has some sort of agenda in this regards and its just too bad, because I would love to play PoE under D&D rules...I just can't stomach the game with the PoE rule-set, I have tried numerous times but can't do it, its just not fun.

this also happened in PoE2. FPS would randomly spike to 400+ in loading screens.

Just wanted to warn prospective buyers looking at this thread that if you are looking to craft an entire party from scratch, it will take a long time and be very gold expensive.

The good news is that if the companions aren't to your liking, you can (honorably) edit their attributes via your save files to min-max to your heart's content. I know a lot of people want this type of thing in a game like this, and I'm disappointed to have to pay 2000g for a new adventurer too, but you'll find it makes sense in the context of the game mechanics and overall challenge of the game. I have not edited my companions attributes in the spirit of this.

Whoever came up with this sheer fisting of an encounter can go fuck themselves. Do me a favor so I don't waste my friend's time on this kind of jackass shit-fest again, send me an email at bfarto@inxile.net when you decide to A) Implement an encounter that wasn't designed by a retarded chimp chained to a cubicle A.)Get a Quality Assuarance Department C) Actually beta test the fucking thing and D) Patch it live. And please for god's sake -- do it in the order I laid out for you. Don't worry, I won't charge you a consulting fee on that one. And for good luck you might as well E) Pull your heads out of your asses. While you're at it rename the game to Cuckmaker since you've used up you're alotted false advertising karma on the Avellone scam. '01.Fix the Spider encounter. Fix the first boss encounter. Rethink your combat bullshit. Fix all the buggy motherfucking random encounters (I suggest you let whoever made the soundtrack do this since that dude apparently laid off the crack the rest of you were smoking). Fix resting. Fix final boss (just guessing it's fucked up considering your track record). Don't have the resources to fix this stuff? Move the ENTIRE my.com team over to fixing Spiders AND DO IT NOW. If you don't fix Spiders, you jackassess will be the only ones playing this shit game.

Entire generation thinks bug=I am unable to do it and it hurts my feelings

PoE/Deadfire are able to interpret flank = behind enemy... not that I'm defending those games or anything

Done with work and getting fully immersed.

I’ve gotta say, the first few hours of Kingmaker have been pretty eye-opening for me. It’s hard to put my finger on it, but the game is a hell of a lot more enjoyable than the other Kickstarter and Kickstarter-adjacent CRPGs.

Maybe it’s because the gameplay doesn’t feel like padding that exists purely to space out lengthy NPC dialogues. I need to get my thoughts in order. For whatever reason, Kingmaker’s a lot more engaging than POE or Deadfire.
I will save you some time. because D&D. properly implemented D&D.

Technically speaking, finding out if two attackers are on opposite sides of a target is not hard at all. Basic vector math, really.
Still, just counting attackers is even easier and not having to run circles around a character makes RTwP a bit easier to deal with so it might have been an "ease of use" decision, even if a somewhat misguided one.

The bug report forum is growing like a diet coke and mentos experiment...

Ok, this is regarding the Numerians.

One of the worst random encounters is coming in contact with these fucks. I've honestly save-scummed a number of times because they seemed unbeatable. However, I beat them once, tracked them to their campsite, slaughtered them, and ended up with TWO NEW PARTY MEMBERS AS A RESULT!

So damn pumped right now. Excellent game design. Excellent RPG design!

I watched like 10 mins jumping between twitch streams and all were people just fighitng stuff no story

0/10
sounds like you have done exhaustive research. I can tell you are patient and like to read lots of words and get into the story by your thorough examination. Does not sound like this is the right type of game for you. There are many point and click puzzle games on steam, lots of them have great anime and deep character building that goes along with it.
