Gothic Oblivion vs Gothic 3: which is worse and why? DISCUSS!!

Which game is WORSE?

  • Oblivion

  • Gothic 3

  • I LOVED both of these games

  • The "I hate them both equally" option for lame people

  • The "some other random crap game" option for edgy people

  • The "kingcomrade" option for voyerists

..which can be MODDED, for fucks sake. AGAIN, IF YOU'RE PLAYING BETHESDA WITHOUT MODS AND CRYING ABOUT IT, THAT'S ON YOU. Jesus Christ.

Ofc it's fucking bad. Their entire idea of leveling falls apart midgame. Two mods: EXP leveling and remove enemy scaling. Use the fact that they allowed you to tweak the core. That's their only redeeming quality.

The thread is not about which game has better mod support.

But if you set the argument to allow mods for both games I would still rather play Gothic 3. Since I heard that community patch alone helps Gothic 3 to be decent.

On the other hand level scaling is just one of many problems that Oblivion has, and while its been ten years since I played modded Oblivion I doubt that since then they managed to fix the game.

You heard incorrectly. You cannot fix that is fundamentally broken at the core. All that patch does is make the game more playable because of how broken it is. Any "fix" it tries still makes for a shit game because of how rotten the foundation is.

No. Lol. Mods DO NOT SAVE BETHESDA GAMES. It is hilarious that you think you can put perfume on a pig and oh suddenly it's better! Going by your argument, Gothic 3 is then saved too! So we're back to square one: both games on release. And G3 is superior.

Gothic 3 is a very bad game, and even 1000 mods can't change it.
The problem is, the game lost everything that was making first 2 games so good:
  • It's not possible to climb anymore! What the hell? Forget about all these sweet secrets and shortcuts.
  • Leveled chests. The treasure you find in chests depends on... the amount of chests you opened before. Lol. So, again, forget about exploration, forget about the possibility to find cool stuff at the very beginning, if you curious - here is just stupid grinding. Also there are chest with randomized loot, which is one of the most stupid things in any RPG.
  • Fraction system is a complete joke. In first 2 games you could feel yourself a part of a chosen fraction. Here the fraction is just a reputation meter. And you're grinding this meter by doing stupid quests.
  • Orcs are just humans, but with different look. Forget about this cool tribal aesthetics they had in first 2 games.
  • All your friends from the first two games act like they're just some random NPCs with no personality.
  • Huge open world. Gothic games don't need to be that big. You spend most of your time just walking from one point to another, across empty spaces.
Yes, Oblivion is a Morrowind for stupid people. But Gothic 3 is even worse. There's no difference in quality between Gothic 3 and Arcania.

Thats the same logic applied Oblivion, its horrible game that no amount of mods can fix.

So the argument is that Oblivion is more preferable choice since sheer amount of mods will make it a bit less shit then Gothic 3.

I havent played Gothic 3 with community patch but, as said, I heard quite a few people that it makes it into a decent game.

I played heavily modded Oblivion and it was still a complete garbage of a game.

So I would still choose Gothic 3 since out of interest I would like to see for my own eyes how game plays with community patch.

On the other hand I zero urge to ever again play Oblivion.
