Pretty much. Think Gothic 2, but with better factions, darker setting, more towns, better character system, well written dialogues that are actually worth reading, and plenty of skill checks. What's not to like?

But it's Fallout 3!!!! :x :x :x

Well... if the quality is consistent, it would probably end up being better than Fallout 2, that's for sure. Both in terms of the overall design and the setting consistency.

I cannot believe you just wrote that! Quickly, use me as a human shield to protect yourself from the bullets of the eternal FO 2 defenders who claim it wasn't an iffy hodgepodge of ideas that seemed "cool" at that time!

Didn't you hate Fallout 3? Or was it the other sexually different person? I always confuse you two.

Lets just hope this completely fucks up any chance of bethesda making another sequel themselves.

From an older post:

Fallout 1 is a well focused game. It's perfect. Everything is well designed, well thought-through, makes sense, and fits the theme and the setting. The Master, the "villain" of the game, isn't really a villain (he thought that he was doing the right thing), which is why it's possible to defeat him without a fight.

Fallout 2 is a "mix of everything" game. It's a game designed by a bunch of 13-year olds following the unbeatable "won't it be cool if the game had...." principle. It has huge gangsters with tommy guns running casinos, it has yakuza with samurai swords, it has so many weapons that you can switch to a new gun every 5 min, it has more lulz than the Codex, it has a king-fu fighting town, it has scientologists with celebrities, it has tribals, aliens, drug dealers, talking deathclaws, and even real GHOSTS. The game's a joke.

The main villain is a stereotypical "I kill everyone for the lulz" villain who looks like a giant robot. (the 13 year olds strike again!) You can't reason with him. The only way to beat the game is to fight him.

Overall, I feel that FO2 locations, NPCs, and quests are clearly inferior to FO1. While FO2 is better than most games (mostly due to being a sequel to a great game), it failed to deliver the quality of the original.

I have actually died on normal setting. FUUUUUUUUUU

Seriously though being second/third level and being raped by a half dozen geckos is fun. I got caught in the open without a rock to stand on...

Deathclaws will rape you hard. So much better than FO3. Also better than fallout 1/2 too.

Can anyone tell me how much different is VATS in NV from FO3? I wonder if it still dramatically reduces the damage or less?

Read the post above?
I did.
I really didn't expect that.
Personally I wouldn't go so far as to say it was better than Fallout 2.
But hey, at least you're happy about it.

I can't tell, honestly. It feels like I take more damage in VATS in NV than I did in FO3, but that's just a "feeling".

Several times, I've gone into VATS with multiple enemies in melee range and they manage to do quite a bit of damage in the time it takes to get my 4-5 shots off. I can't remember if that happened in FO3 or not.

Limitations of an engine is an engines fault, particularly when Obsidian were contracted to use Bethesda's version of Shitbryo.
Ah so you did blame Bethesda after all.

Divinity II uses this engine too and it's quite serviceable, but that's not the tool Obsidian got to use now is it? What could they do with it, really? They had a year to rattle off a game and did the best they could. Maybe they should have used the TOEE engine, but I don't think Bethesda would have allowed this to happen.
And again it's Bethesda's fault!

Fanboys are so boring and pathetic - they will blame everything - lack of time (because that wasn't Obsidian which decided to pick a year long contract), an engine (even though it is known for being extremely flexible) and Bethesda (they specially nerfed down the gameplay aspect of an engine so poor Obsidian wouldn't make a good game) - but Obsidian.
If Obsidian had at least a little bit of talent they would've managed to do anything with Gamebryo.

But I guess Obsidian also had to work with specially nerfed Sega's version of Unreal Shitgine 3 in Alphaturd.

Fucking A

Also lol at flip flops in this thread.

Quest-compass, VATS, enemy radar, 4chan-grade lulz, ugly graphics and characters and other dumb shit were retarded when Bethesda did it, but when Beth slapped an Obsidian logo on it it suddenly became a good game.

Codex 2010 is such a pile of shit.

Damn, here I was, thinking "shit's too easy" after taking out powder gang members and geckos. Now I'm getting owned by those that fucking convict leader and his goons on normal (well, with hardcore mode on, but what the fuck). Be back in a sec when I headshot this motherfucker.

Encounters definitely don't level scale right now I am at the point where if I go North I encounter death claws - unkillable at lvl 7 and south I have very difficult adversaries. Basically you have to make use of a lot of resources to kill enemies so that perks such as shotgun surgeon actually make a big difference. I am definitely liking this - the game doesn't feel like its too easy and it definitely has areas which you have to prepare for.

Playing on Very hard + Hardcore .

Also I like the fact that the game alludes to the NCR developing California to the point of having a stable form of government and New Vegas actually being a Frontier. It makes sense that in 200 years stable government would form - heck the NCR even has paper money in print now. It definitely feels more believable than Fallout 3

I find myself rarely using VATs, it's only useful at close range so far so 95% of the shots I take are without it. I only find it truly useful for throwing dynamite, that's about it.

Id say that using VATs with a rifle makes it feel far weaker than if you just aim yourself.

I die too often when I use VATS; take too much damage to quick. Maybe it's meant more for sniping?

Yeah, I find that I'm firing without VATS in NV far more than I did in FO3. Part of it is because of the addition of ironsights, but also because VATS just doesn't feel as useful - probably because I'm still fairly low-level.

VATS is actually most useful (so far) for taking down multiple already-weakened enemies quickly.

Nope it's better to snipe manually actually.

Also I don't think VATS protects you from damage anymore, I died 2 times while in VATS while still being at full health.

I suck, even the tutorial geckos kick my ass on Very Hard mode. What's your secret? (Not to even mention the half a dozen or so of geckos that storm at you in that first quest.)

(At least I can handle, in true Gothic tradition, the Bloat Flies.)

What has Alpha Protocol to do with this? :retarded:

I suppose Obsidian did NOT have to use Bethesda's Fallout 3 engine then, right? They could have used the Witcher 2 engine instead right?

They were contracted to do a job on a limited engine and that's a fact. No fanboyism here.

Anyway fuck it, the jokes on you as many Codexers here are enjoying the game as are many many others and it's eating you up with rage inside to see Obsidian having success doesn't it?

Steal everything you find in the houses, repair guns to top condition and try to sneak attack the geckos , also try to remain mobile, if you can keep back peddling it becomes easier. Also aim for the head - a good head shot stuns the shit out of them and allows you to score more hits.

Also when you find explosives hoard them. I was under the false impression that since they're so easy to find then it's unnecessary to grab every last grenade/dynamite stick. Turns out every last explosive is invaluable against later monsters.

Not when playing in hardcore mode on normal difficulty you're not. Died quite a few times already DURING vats.
