Alright, Warlock is leveled and geared, now blasting through campaigns. It's a fun class, and surprisingly few bugs and issues on release (aside from Dreadtheft bugs, the only other bug is a rather annoying bug with Fiery Blast which causes it to ignore the fact it hit a Cursed enemy, meaning no bonus damage but curse is consumed anyway).

Special features of the class: Fast-paced spellcaster with more importance on targeting and positioning than Wizard, less control more over-time effects and triggered effects, Curse mechanic, Stand power.

My personal playstyle is designed around close range damage output through Damage-Over-Time spells and self-healing effects. Hellish Rebuke at-will is used together with Blades of Vanquished Armies, Harrowstorm and Hand of Blight to have as much damage flowing out as possible. Gear is selected to make use of Damnation feat tree's capstone (Devilish Warlock armor set with Guardian Fighter class dye). The key is that Devilish Warlock and its T2 incarnation set grant a +3%/+4% bonus to Encounter damage. This bonus is TRIPLED when Soul Puppet Stand is active, which is where Damnation comes in becaue Damnation has essentially permanent Soul Puppet. The feat tree also grants 10% extra damage and 10% extra damage reduction from the Soul Puppet, so it shouldn't be far behind Fury in terms of damage, since Soul Puppet also adds decent damage with Damnation spec (100% more damage, which for me amounts to ~2.5k per swipe; the passive bonuses are still the real meat). Fiery Blast is used to clear mooks and add a little spike damage to the rotation. Class features used are Shadow Walk (Warlock does need the extra speed a great deal, due to lacking dodge and Unstoppable so getting out of the way is the only option for active defense) and No Pity, No Mercy (essentially extra 25% damage with 40+% crit chance). Harrowstorm also provides an option for much-needed control. Dailies are Brood of Hadar (since I just like it plain better visually, and damage-wise it seems pretty equal with Flames of Phleghethos) and Gates of Hell (extremely hard hitting AoE, just needs to be aimed and then stay fighting in the attack area).

As a side note, the tooltip on the Damnation feat that adds a heal on Cursed target death is wrong. The heal is actually over 100% of your weapon damage, so it's very good.

n00b question to the masses: So I just got out of prison a few months ago (check out my thread in the Prisonscape form to ask me questions about it) and I'm getting back into online gaming (or really getting into it, I wasn't much of a gamer pre-prison, but I got into pen and paper RPGs, i.e. D&D and even played a campaign based on Neverwinter while I was there, and I'm having withdraws so I need a fix). Anyway, how does Neverwinter's requirements compare to WoW's requirements? Do you need a faster Internet connection? Higher computer specs?

Well, Neverwinter is considerably newer (after all, in terms of age WoW is a lich MMO at this point).

As far as I can tell with layman's perspective, connection speed is just you either have a fast enough connection for any MMO, or you don't. Game itself doesn't make a difference since server side problems and client reqs don't care about connection speed.

An antique 1 Mbit connection is enough for most modern MMOs i have played, lags usually only appear during peak times or are serversided issues. Slowdowns when a lot of players are present are normal.
One thing about Neverwinter I'd like to point out compared with traditional MMOs like WoW or SWTOR is the rather low amount of time needed to get to max level. The enormous grindfests are not present, because they don't need to keep you as long as possible and pay monthly fees. Gaining levels more often is a lot more rewarding than SWTOR for example, where you spend several hours to gain one lousy level. Areas are also a lot smaller, so no time is wasted traveling to your next quest giver. In Neverwinter you will usually be ahead of the content level without even having problems (aside from your inventory being full with items you cannot use yet). I could skip the last area with most of my toons because they were already max level and I didn't even do dungeons.

I don't really have any problems with my TR either.

The new campaign is a pain in the ass though and I'm only doing it on 2 characters.

I'm doing it with two at a time. Rogue and Cleric are last because they're slated for balance update. First are Wizard/'lock (Wizard cleared the last daily time-gate today), then GWF/GF, and finally Ranger danger. Not sure if I'm going to bother with 4/5 and 5/5 of the quest tree due to how crazy expensive dragon keys are outside of Zen store.

Good news is that the HE dragons drop the Artifact weapon mats (I've already got two out of three on the Wizard who gets first crack at dat sheet; one of the mats is from the store since it's reasonably priced), so the ONLY reason to go to the two super-expensive dungeons is if you REALLY want to not save and buy the Draconic gear.

I noticed the Warlock class features kind of suck. Really bad.

Also, in case you don't check the calendar, there is a double refine points weekend coming up after this one.

Yep most of them are garbage. Shadow Walk tho is something you MUST have due to needing speed to avoid red zones. Besides that, I tend to use the Crit->Combat Advantage feature. The daily gauge damage bonus feature could be somewhat good with Fury feat speccing, but it still has a hefty drawback since you can't really use dailies at all if you want to get the most out of the features.

This guy deals more damage than the MC boss.

Yea, I don't think any of my characters has survived getting hit with his attacks, since just about all of them double-tap. Haven't gone melee against him yet, so I can't say about his standard swipe, but at least the tail swipe can kill any caster with a crit.

So I finally managed to get in with reasonable latency, give or take the game deciding to just stop reacting in the middle of a boss fight or three. Yay. Way to go, me. And so on.

Now to decide whether I want to go Tiefling Warlock or to actually use pretty clothes without insane clipping. >.<

Not to mention, those 3 extra feats. D: The heroic tree for warlocks has so much good.

hm, warlock really is ezmode, or they totally rebalanced the game since i started. finally finished to 60 and even with petal grind it took me less than total previous playing time which took me to 30ish.

It is totally ezmode.

It can range, it can melee, it has pet, it can self heal, it can buff, it can debuff, it can tank, it can AoE, and it can kind of control. With a half assed build, just kind of picking 'what sounds cool' and stacking Power and Crit, in PvE it can out DPS all but min maxed DPS builds. With a focused build it can pull ridiculous DPS, or it can out heal DC by a wide margin. And it is pretty scary at PvP, too.

Now you know why that Warlock guy in the intro was solo-ing a Dracolych while the others had to team up to by the skin of their teeth deal with some undead guy whose call to fame was being kind of tall.

I am guessing Cryptic wanted to try to pull a 'solo' class and failed miserably by virtue of being Cryptic.

it's fun when clerics complain that warlocks outheal them. that class is seriously wtf.

i went with tiefling and am sorta regretting it. the helmets look terrible with horns, tail looks shitty with all the riding animals... also missing those three points to max the last two feats.

Warlock is indeed one of those classes where the extra Heroic points for Humans are a good bargain (since they have both Crit Severity and Damage Bonus on the last tier).

(Also Wizard and GWF are still strongest in PvE)

Beat GWF team in PvP without a perma-stealth rogue? At best the Temptation team could achieve a mutual impasse, since it's possible they might have the same kind of indestructibility synergy that double Cleric had during beta.

I actually suppose that Temptation capstone dramatically changes gameplay for the Warlock, since it does enable healer functionality. Damnation and Fury are ultimately fairly similar, being just bigger deeps through different means (in case of Damnation, through the combination of buffed perma-pet and passive bonuses from said perma-pet existing; or as I call it, it gives you STANDO PAWAA).

Something that's really interesting tho is finding out whether or not Temptation 'lock can combine the lifesteal heal aura with Burning Radiance boon, which is currently one of the saving graces for Clerics (and will be a source of a great many lulz after the class gets buffed next module).

So, taking into account Bonfire bonus...

CHA 27 + CON 20 + INT 16 vs CHA 25 + CON 22 + INT 16.

(Endgame numbers, with the six +1 factored in)

Which is better and why?

Disqus!

And if I start today, do I still have time to get the Piggy Companion?

It's sooo cute! And pink!

I've got an extra piggy to spare, I think everyone else got theirs already. Is this a companion piggy or the mount?

Also with Warlock, I'd wager the 22 CON is better due to CON being the one with damage bonus. High Cha is still a absolute priority #2 due to having Crit%.

The piggy mount could be a close call, since it requires daily tokens. Not sure if the event runs another 12 (or 14?) days to get them. The piggy companion requires only the currency you could farm if you bring enough motivashun. Are those not-dailies bound or free to sell anyway? I remember the throne became a bound item later.

Right, so the mounts AND the petal store items are all actually BoP. That means that I only have one piggy companion to share, since I should have one left over from last year.
