I sometimes fantasize about mods that will never be, I research their technical feasibility, I've even started working on these projects a few times only to drop them a couple days later. Do you have ideas for great mods like that? Here are mine.

1. Run Pillars of Eternity dialogues through a specialized LLM that removes purple prose and infuses it with a livelier style.
The difficulty is that it'd be hard to create a good synthetic data set right now, but it's not impossible in the future. This is one of the easiest mod ideas I have.

2. Port VTMB to Unreal Engine and then make the combat less "RPG" and more action-oriented, like Far Cry 3, where there are RPG elements, but nothing so stupid like "I can't shoot straight because I only have 1 star in dexterity".
The difficulty is that there's no tools to read/export animations from the VTMB engine. Their animation engine is something custom, not Source-based. This makes the difficulty of the task rather gargantuan - requiring to step through the assembler, find the place where the animation keyframes are being read, inject custom code to export keyframe data. Even if you had spare money, good luck finding someone with the expertise for this and a desire to do this shit.

3. Port VTM: Redemption onto something similar to the VTMB, first-person engine. Enormous endeavor. Never researched its feasibility, just thought the idea would be cool.

4. Reimplement BG2 engine in UE5 and fully document it. I know about GemRB, but it's so undocumented, that it'd be easier to write a new one. I have experience writing 150+ pages of documentation for a game engine, it's not so difficult, so Idk why they didn't do it.
The weirdest thing is that it's even legal to use GemRB for your own custom games - the license allows it and they "encourage" you to try, but it's simply not doable due to total lack of documentation.
Anyway, with complete control over the code, modding would become the easiest thing in the world. Could make the game turn-based, for example. It'd require to make less combat encounters, but it'd be an interesting thing to work on.

  1. Gunship 2000 in DCS or Arma3 engine or similar.

  2. Take an EverQuest spell caster and put that gameplay in Fallout 4, Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Witcher 3, Mordor, etc. Anything. Put it in everything.

  3. Or just remake EQ in UE5 and tweak the gameplay to be less evil. Fill in a few gaps in gear and quests. It would be the best game ever, all over again. And let people play it solo offline with AI mercenaries that you can control using macroquest.

  4. Take the gameplay from Freelancer, Space Rangers 2, etc, and put that in Elite Dangerous's engine.

  5. Remake Hidden & Dangerous 1 and 2 in UE 5.

  6. Remake Eye of the Beholder trilogy in Legend of Grimrock engine. Do away with the dumb gem casting thing.

  7. Make a good RTS like Tiberian Sun / Generals in an engine with procedural terrain.

  8. Have a mod like Antistasi for Arma3, but that's a bit better.

  9. Have a mode like CTI for Arma3 but that's a bit better, like how it was in Arma 2.

  10. Make New Vegas in Arma 3 or Fallout 4.

  11. SWAT 4 in Arma3 engine.

Stuff like that

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Whoa. Import VtMB into the UW environment, in the Unreal Engine. So you'd run around, solving quests, drinking blood, maybe each level has some kind of clan and enemy. You wake up, a new vampire, in an environment without sun, and you have to piece together the story as you fight to the bottom. LaCroix on level 1 sends you to find the sarcophagus on level 8. Using abilities on npcs to get them to reveal there secret dialog options, or trade more favorably, or use stealth magic. Maybe you can also be an avatar, and maybe at the bottom you get and ending on how you played it.

Wait, nope, it's a stupid idea.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas in the original Interplay Fallout Engine and with the same gameplay.
However, even that will not completely fix those games because they are fundamentally shit.

Something that replaces voiced dialog cutscenes with written text? So instead of having an NPC's face fill up the entire screen while deliving its inane speech, you get the traditional succinct little text box (the way games used to do it).

Morrowind with Gothic's "Radiant A.I." and Dark Messiah's combat.

Oblivion and Skyrim: ditto, with area scaling instead of level scaling.

Age of Wonders games: a mod that enables the AI to do everything the player can do.

Arcanum with interesting encounter design and a better combat system.

  • Midwinter in any modern engine.
  • Any modern fighting game beatem up, Mortal Kombat, Streetfighter etc. But with actual martial arts fighting not action hero moves.

Yeah.
Also something that allows you to avoid random encounters (maybe a skill like Survival or Outdoorsman like in Fallout).
And the combat must be improved.

Tons and tons of games: mods that add better "AI" to the enemy. Add some difficulty too - to most crpgs - where you are at it modding. OTOH smarter enemies will partially take care of that.

Additionally but those are really remakes not mods:
- Mod that makes Arcanum to have good: mechanics, character development, some balance, is finished and not half-empty in some parts. And of curse combat, including enemies and encounters. The setting, the quests, the writing, art design and some locations + exploration stay. Another engine might be needed.
- Mods for any good turn-based crpg with Infinity Engine games and better AI/difficulty. We already have the latter done for BGs.
- Mods for Pathfinder games that remove 3/4 of superfluous writing, all SJW-ism, trash combat encounters, mini-games and rebalance it so that gameplay doesn't devolve into building characters with gadzillion points in every stats to fight enemies with badzillions in all stats. Also see the part about AI. Better encounter design would be nice too. Basically a full remake of the game by a non-retarded team.
- Party-based Underrail.

  1. SWAT 4 in Arma3 engine.

Why???

A3 engine is awfully suited to it. Movement is clunky and the AI's very robotic behavior becomes apparent in close quarters, and they are not good at navigating buildings. People have tried to make SWAT style missions for A3 and they suck.

Ready Or Not is a thing too.

Cuz I want everything in everything. Also it is Arma's weakest aspect so it needs the work. They have buildings all over the map but they feel flimsy like a film set and there's nothing in them. But it is doable. I made some missions myself which are good. It can do ok with close quarters and unlike SWAT you can have actual snipers.
