Multi-headed Cow well, thats annoying, jump in isnt going away, instead they add new packs:
This is all a fancy way of saying we're extending and updating the Jump In! event with the release of Innistrad: Crimson Vow, and we'll periodically check in to ensure this format hasn't overstayed its welcome.
no idea how many are we talking about yet. I doubt it will be worth it for me and yet i am an addict looking for excuse...
That's cool in theory, but yeah I think it's less enticing for card-vacuums like us and it's more geared toward people just starting or coming back or whatever. Then those Zendikar and Kaldheim rares and shit are more meaningful, and they can just keep shoveling in more stuff from standard as it's added. If they DO phase out some of the older packs then it might be worth another spin.

Speaking of which, mediocrepoet if you do want to keep poking at MTGA then Jump In is a fairly good use of your gold. Gets you cards that are standard-legal and alleviates deckbuilding concerns since you take two packs and combine them and play with that so it's a relatively even playing field. It's 1,000 gold to enter and you'll get two rares, and then an uncommon individual card reward for your first win but you can win and lose as many games as you want before resigning and starting a new run. A pack of cards is typically 1,000 gold so it's roughly half price to play that, though you can't pull random wildcards and don't move on the wildcard path.

lukaszek So they're adding 10 packets to Jump In and not removing any, so it'll PROBABLY be sorta awkward if we've already got well stocked cards from it but since Jump In does guarantee one packet in the first pick will be one you've never picked before (If possible) it still might be worth doing a few runs of it.

https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-digital/mtg-arena-jump-in Old page updated, has the 10 new packets in a tab. Quick rundown is:

Training packet: Savior of Ollenbock
Spooky packet: Mirrorhall mimic
Bloodthirsty packet: Voldaren bloodcaster 50% Falekrath forebear 50%
Double trouble packet: Creepy puppeteer
Wolf pack packet: Ascendant packleader
Disturbed packet: Katilda dawnheart martyr 50% Dorothea vengeful victim 50%
Fangs packet: Anje maid of dishonor 75% Olivia crimson bride 25%
Tough packet: Saryth the viper's fang 50% (The fuck is she doing here she's not in the new set reeeeeeeee) Old Rutstein 50%
Multitalented packet: Odric blood-cursed
Crawlies packet: Grolnok the omnivore 50% overcharged amalgam 50%

very meh lists. Obviously olivia is the one to seek but got only 25% chance.
wolf pack might be decent for mono green players, that 1 mana drop will probably be a staple until rotation?

touch choice. WIll probably burn some gold for a chance to fill brawl spots and feel sad about it. Olivia and that counterspelling zombie would be something id try to get

My feelings are pretty similar, feels like more jank/misses than hot shit. Wolf's probably a decent 1 drop for mono green and maybe even Gruul werewolves, yeah. Ollenbock's the forbidden color but I actually kinda dig it, probably not historic playable (3 mana 1/2 do nothing) but training and exiling your own dead shit so when Ollenbock bites it your stuff hits the battlefield is cool. It's probably a card that's cooler than it is straight up powerful but it does tickle my fancy. Actually may be playable for white weenie in standard but since I haven't opened even a single white adversary I haven't been fucking with that myself.

Edit: Actually thinking about it a little it's probably not even good in standard white weenie since when it comes to 3 drops you'd likely much rather have Adeline since she's got a giant ass and vigilance so in aggro vs aggro matches she's better, and against control she's arguably better since she's a big threat herself so you can just stop committing more to the board if she resolves.

Beating an opponent that was playing Old Stickfingers graveyard fuckery with Luka's Tergrid deck, grim tutoring myself to 2 life, opponent triggers self milling to try to ping me twice with Konrad, only pings me once, tutor up extinction event to exile his shit so his on-death triggers don't activate, stabilize and win over the next 3 turns still on 1 life. Good ol Magic. Haven't done much of a blurb on the Tergrid deck since I haven't been into it as much as Erebos and Jadar. Tergrid might still be a better discard commander than Tinybones (Actually used her body-side a little more than I expected. Against creature-heavy decks it usually feels better since they skimp on removal more and you're more likely to land free goodies) but I'm leery on going heavy discard in historic brawl in general.

burned 15k. Wasnt able to actually complete most of the matches but pack picking was fine. I actually amassed some nice stuff and I consider this money well spent(new packs seemed rare to me, still I have playset of wolf now). Although no olivia or blex. Actually I havent seen single fangs packet even though i prioritized right colors.
Marking obtained packs or helping by showing at least 1 not previously obtained pack is still broken

Very first run I was getting offered new stuff so I figured maybe they'd fixed it, but no. 3 runs in and I'm getting all duplicates in my first packet even though there are fucktons of new packets I've never even seen yet. Oh well. Fortunately I haven't had any complete whiffs, worst I've had is one rare/mythic and then a dupe but since Jump In gives a ton of vault progress on top of the 20-40 gems for the dupe it's not too bad if you're getting one rare/mythic for 1k. Still probably not as good as just cracking a regular pack since wildcard track progress is worth more than vault progress and you have the chance of just straight up opening a wildcard, but not a kick in the balls at least.

1 more roll, making it 16k, gave me olivia. Now I got bloodthirsty fangs with olivia in it, probably fine for farming quick wins?

what's this divide by zero bullshit when it returns a spell to your hand but also negates its effect for no reason?

divide by zero removes card from stack, hence it gets countered in a sense. Similar to ashioks erasure, it just ends up in different place.
Obviously its quite popular as you can bounce your powerful etb effects, like meathook to board wipe again. If you bounce copied spell you effectively counter it fully

and how the fuck does Liesa bring cards back from graveyard after a doomskar where Liesa dies itself? doesn't a card need to be "alive" for its effect to work? if Liesa is gone, her effect should be gone too before end of turn.

yeah those still work. Same like if opponent had korvold and you forced to sac a creature. Korvold death would still have them draw a card and attempt to give a counter.
Basically those on death triggers work with dieing critters

10s search for those not that lazy
603.10. Normally, objects that exist immediately after an event are checked to see if the event matched any trigger conditions, and continuous effects that exist at that time are used to determine what the trigger conditions are and what the objects involved in the event look like. However, some triggered abilities are exceptions to this rule; the game “looks back in time” to determine if those abilities trigger, using the existence of those abilities and the appearance of objects immediately prior to the event. The list of exceptions is as follows:

  • 603.10a Some zone-change triggers look back in time. These are leaves-the-battlefield abilities, abilities that trigger when a card leaves a graveyard, and abilities that trigger when an object that all players can see is put into a hand or library.

sounds like some programming bullshit, not actual game rules or an explanation of game rules.
also it doesn't say why any abilities should "look back in time". with liesa i would say it triggers if and only if liesa remains on the battlefield and any other creature dies. there is absolutely nothing anywhere to suggest that if she leaves the battlefield her "powers" are still active "for a while". simultanious deaths also don't help creatures that die but would survive if another creature that is also dying would buff them after getting killed, do they? like "when this creature dies put a +1/+1 counter on another creature". they die at the same time so there's nothing to put the counter on.
at least that would be the logical conclusion and not some scifi bullshit about time travel.

Nice! Done maybe 6 runs and haven't had anything terribly exciting, best was probably getting my first (!) copy of Zareth San and one of the rare black blood fiddling vampires. I arguably should save a good stack of gold for drafts around the end of the month but eh. If it's gonna be 90 days until the next set I should restock hopefully. Still need to do a highroller draft on it at some point too, hoping this set won't be as lame as the previous one for limited.

Edit: Oh yeah, another oddity. Got my new set email and the format I played most last set was historic apparently. Surprised me a bit but I have been leaning that way a lot more lately.

Makes me twitch when it seems like someone is purposefully roping and it's not just MTGA being a piece of shit. Was playing a fine game of historic brawl with Jadar against some dude playing Rielle. I was understandably playing out creatures mainly and he was understandably playing out instants and sorceries. Dude had a great opening hand since he had the 2 mana wizard that can tap to reduce colorless costs of spells based on the number of wizards in play, and magmatic channeler so he could tap to discard a card, draw a card off Rielle, then exile two cards and play one of them. Dude had a grip of cards while I was completely emptied out since I was putting a lot of little garbage creatures out there along with blood artist. We're probably 10 or so turns into the game and he leaves himself tapped out since he used all his wizards to draw cards/reduce costs since he duplicated silundi visions so he could dig 18 cards down and put 3 into his hand. That's all fine and cool. I activate hive of the eye tyrant and attack with everything, which even if he blocked with Rielle (His only blocker) he'd still be taking so much that he'd be in the danger zone with blood artist around. Can see the glow of him mousing over cards, then he ropes out until he auto-concedes.

People roping if they don't like a deck you're playing is a bit annoying but I don't care that much since if you hate a deck then whatever, but it drives me up the wall when I'll be playing a nice game of Magic with back and forth going on (Since the dude presumably could've hit blood artist with single target removal, dropped to 4 from the drain, then used a sweeper and the most I could do following up on that would be eye tyrant for 3) and then someone ropes instead of either just playing or scooping. Even if he didn't have it in hand he'd get a card on his drawstep, then could chuck a card with magmatic and essentially go 3 deeper due to Rielle to look for an answer, and I knew he had single target removal since he revealed electrodominance off of silundi visions. Normally I'd write that off as "MTGA client is shit, dude probably was lagging and didn't even know it because the client is that bad" but since he was looking over the attack that seems less likely.

I am angry, ANGRY ABOUT CHILDREN'S CARD GAMES.

If their old statement of wanting to turn historic into pioneer was true, maybe not. But since they've obviously thrown that out the window by adding piles of Modern Horizons cards in, maybe we'll get Liliana of the Veil at some point. If you're talking a new card, I dunno. Since they apparently stuffed her into Strix I dunno if they're going to have her popping up elsewhere much.
