This set seems a little more interesting than the strixhaven set.

I'm still saving up my wildcards and gold for the set rotation though. I'm just farming the dailies right now.

Since people are comparing numbers. Hmmm.

Doing a quick browse, my stats appear to be.

Theros Release (158 Packs) - I started when Eldraine was just released.
Zendikar Release (257 Packs)
Kaldheim Release (142 Packs)
Strixhaven Release (111 Packs)

The next one will be a lot lower I'm sure, but I'm going to get a ton of packs when the rotation comes. Hopefully its fun!

Kinda feeling that way with limited, in my small amount of play. Making me want to try some equipment garbage in constructed, though I'm sure as hell not burning any wildcards on the set until budget drafting's out and I can go ham. Also still pretty sure that even with the equipment goodies in the D&D set it'll still be pretty shit in constructed but eh.

I will say that artifact and enchantment destruction is at a major premium for the set in limited. Some really fucking bomb artifacts (That black locket is a giant pain, constantly draining you and giving deathtouch so you're stuck with shit trades most of the time) and some of the classes can run wild (Notably ranger, though it's a rare so not too likely to come up) so it seems a little more valuable than normal to have some destruction in your deck.

i had my first draft yesterday, went 4-3 because of a misplay and some mana screw, but still had lots of fun, this set was clearly designed with constructed in mind and it does a great job at it for what i saw, and for someone who enjoys drafting a lot more than limited, this is welcome news.

*hite book is eating ban, but only in standard 22
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-digital/mtg-arena-announcements-july-14-2021

if you craft it and dont get wildcard refund, blame your greed and fooling with *hite

quite interesting that it wont be banned post rotation, i guess they do plan on reprinting field of ruin?

in other news, once rotation happens we get new cards from beginner sets. If you are very patient and dont open packs, can potentially grab some extra rares(i guess one shouldnt bother about mythics since chance of acquiring them is low). someone made a decklist with all rare+ cards https://aetherhub.com/Deck/new-2022-precon-rares-and-mythics
too bad that blex isnt included, so i guess ill have to craft it to get my single copy

They outright say you won't get a wildcard refund for it because it won't be banned for standard when actual rotation hits. I assume they're just banning it in standard-22 since field of ruin is (I think) in Theros so it's probably not standard-22 legal but they'll probably reprint it in Innistrad or whatever.

Hmm, I'll go ahead and craft a few and see what happens.

I already had two of them, what's two more.

The problem didn't seem that bad, but I played field of ruins and I already had fetch cards to dig for what I need in my deck. I've bumped into people doing the faceless haven / book of exalted deeds thing before.

As soon as you destroy their land, they get butt-mad and quit.

Goblin javelin dude and black talisman is pretty hot. Every attack causing a 2 point drain and the gobbo kills everything since the 1 damage ping gains deathtouch from the talisman. I mostly just love that stupid talisman.

I've been playing Dimir control since I'm a monster. Though I'm playing a shittier deck since I've only got one Mordenkainen since I'm not cracking packs yet and I never did open Onyx, so I'm relying on my single wizard, some manlands, and then I tossed that rune-baked demon in there since I can pull it back out with blood on the snow, it'll give me a card, and if I give my opponent the option of Mordenkainen or another card he'll probably pick the other card so then the wizard's in the bin to pull out with other spells. Works pretty alright. I PROBABLY should be playing fucking Izzet since Izzet's my baby and it's only occasionally viable but eh.

Moral of the story though is that standard 2022's way fucking better than regular standard.

Casting tarrasque from hand in limited multiple times is a nice feeling. :kingcomrade:
Also fun to go Rakdos treasures/creature stealing/sacrifice. The set isn't reaching Kaldheim levels of enjoyment for me but it is a good 'un for limited.

Jesus. Had an early barbarian class followed up with another barbarian and some of those 2cmc pixies so I went all-in on drafting dice rolling. Understandably it's fairly awful in limited even if you're focusing on it due to early payoffs, but it's fun to pilot. The "Critical hit" card in particular is a laugh riot since a 2cmc double strike combat trick is fairly tolerable but having it bounce back to your hand because you're rolling 3 dice for a hoarding ogre attacking which becomes an 8/5 with menace and potential double strike due to buffs/equipment/combat trick and then you can't help laugh like an idiot. Sure as hell SHOULDN'T have drafted three color dice chucking but I'm glad I did and happy I've won at least one game with it. Even funnier since the opponent I beat with it went hard on dungeon delving and even finished the leftmost one, the one with the final "Draw 3 and play one without paying for it" payoff.

weird part is 31 cards that will be arena exclusives... Looks like this mechanic is expanding instead of dieing. Perhaps still bo1?

This summer turns up to be more insane than previous ftp funds wise

btw, assuming they dont change pricing, its much better to spend gold over gems on jumpstart. If you are in position to do so, spent gems on drafts instead and keep gold intact

Also assuming they don't pull a WotC and remove the Jumpstart ICRs or some damn thing to make Jumpstart less valuable.
