Because it's a funny contrast. We are still a wizard, first and foremost - but the idea of a Muscle Wizard punching face in magic duels is hilarious enough to be a good fit for the LP.
I remember an old Doctor Strange story that this was how he settled the epic duel to decide who will become Supreme Sorcerer of this Plane of Reality.
It was dumb, expecially considering that all those guys had automatic magic defenses against physical harm.

List of suggestions treave said 'k to:

- Let's get the guns from the Concordat. And we all know how it turned out.
- Let's attack both Taishan and Kunlun disciples in a dishonorable manner.
- Let's expose Fire Temple location to Gao Ying.
- Let's assault a super-powerful ghost with nothing but a dagger and with no support from our Lolinomicon.

Edit: almost forgot the scariest one.
- Let's redo the Maniac Training part 2.

I just want my Yuhe Finger..
I think I do not want Yuhe finger anymore. :M

Seeing where this is going, I predict the battle will end quite badly: At best, Erd will win, but the poison will cause so much internal damage that he'll have to immediately spend a whole month inside the regeneration machine, preventing us from travelling to other places and gather info about the Adventurers' expedition. On the other hand, we would receive our slime army and one or two physical techniques from Barbatos' goodwill.

At worst, he'll fail and will be left to die, gaining nothing in return except pain and misery (along with losing the chance of going somewhere else as before). Aria and Lucy may or may not survive, depending of how cruel treave feels at the moment.

At truly worst case scenario, the above plus capture and being forced to enjoy Kek's careful ministrations following orders from his Dark Lord.

You know, I think I'll switch my vote to A2>A3>B1>B2. It may be too late already, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Well, if I can have that sort of power over this LP, I'll be chuffed. :smug:

Plus, admit it. You all want Erdrick to be able to go around and give people "The Finger". +M

A Goo Deal

“Your spells! Your attacks! They will not work!” Quekquek displays more of his unshakeable confidence in his invulnerability to both magical and physical attacks. The innumerable tentacles thicken and shorten, bulging at their base. They swell and erupt into a volley of hardened black spheres bursting towards you at high speed, a dark torrent that could tear ragged holes in anything that stands in its way.

You concentrate. Battle Premonition tells you where to move. Barbatos’s Shadow-Slaughtering Demon Steps tells you how to move. As if merely walking in the rain, you pass through the deadly curtain with nothing more than countless ragged holes in your cloak.

“That is insufficient, boy! Why, in my day I could have walked through that attack while keeping my clothing intact! You need more practice!” lectures Barbatos.

“Would you have?”

“Well… no. I would merely have let it bounce off my gleaming muscles. Guhahahahahaha!”

“Pay attention!” roars Quekquek, continuing his assault. He stretches out a dozen arms in an attempt to capture you, but you nimbly hop and weave your way out of his attack. With another yell of frustration, he spreads himself thinner, multiplying the amount of slime appendages to corner you with.

As the gurgling jelly surrounds you, you call out, “Barbatos.”

“Going on the offensive? Very well. I hear and obey.”

Time to see what his gauntlet can really do. You spin around on your heel, your premonition warning you of a wall of jelly about to splash over you from behind. The wicked-looking gauntlet manifests on your fist as you throw a single punch. When your fist meets the slime, your punch blasts a large, gaping hole in the jelly wall. It seems that sheer physical force can overcome the slime’s ability to resist attacks. You just need to apply enough of it. Quivering pieces of black goo splatter all across the clearing.

“Wh-what?” Quekquek’s thrashing slime body pauses a while in disbelief. “What did you just do? Aren’t you a magic user? Why are you punching?”

You flex the fingers of the gauntlet and turn towards him.

“I am using magic.”

“No. That is not magic. That is a punch!”

“Of course it is magic. It’s a spell,” you laugh, walking towards Quekquek.

“I am not stupid. That is not a spell – got you! Idiot!” With a triumphant laugh, the slimelord gathers all of his scattered goo back together, suddenly towering above you. “Now this is a punch!” His entire body turns into a gigantic arm, topped by a hammer-like fist the size of a wagon. Screaming, Quekquek brings the hammer down upon your head.

“It is a spell. See? I’m casting it now. I call this spell ‘Fist’.” As your punch meets Quekquek’s fist, its hardened, obsidian-armoured surface absorbs your blow and shatters. At the same time, the ground beneath you cracks and rumbles, unable to withstand the impact of his attack. Quekquek’s fist immediately changes shape, forming a web over your head. Each string that constitutes the web is peppered with tiny, familiar-looking vents.

“That… No!” warns Brunnen.

“Negate this! High concentration toxin wave!” shouts Quekquek gleefully. Gurgling in laughter, he sprays you directly with a concentrated dose of his poison. As the mist settles, you feel a bit itchy. But that is all.

“Eh?” That is as much as Quekquek manages before you strike him directly in the center of his mass with another punch. The large slimelord is lifted off of the ground and flies back a good distance, curling into a ball and bouncing a few times before coming to a halt.

As you close in on him, he seems to finally notice the wings poking out from under your tattered cloak. “You… you…” burbles the slimelord. “An… angel?” The black jelly grows paler, more translucent as the darkness seems to bleach from it. The slimelord begins to shiver. “Why would one be… no…”

“I have a lot more spells to cast,” you smile, raising your gauntleted hand as you stand above the trembling slime. “Come, get up. Of course, it would be easier on me if you decide not to fight back…”

***

By the end of your practice session, you manage to pick up two new techniques of the Demon God Fist.

I. Body-Piercing Demon Fist. A fast, charging attack using your explosive battle aura to close the distance and drive your fist through the enemy. Created cunningly by Barbatos when he invented the tactic of running forward and punching through the plate armour of a human general.

II. Demon God Wave. A technique that allows you to focus your energy and send out a wave of concussive force from your palms. Created in frustration by Barbatos to bring down pesky dragons that do not have the decency to land for a honourable brawl.

III. Demon Beast Claws. A technique that utilizes the sharp tips of the gauntlet’s fingers to mimic the claws of a raging beast. Created by Barbatos, inspired by cats. Also allows the user to climb walls.

IV. Demon Wind Sickle. A technique where you emit a sharp, cutting wave from the edge of your hand with a chopping action. Invented by Barbatos while battling the Living Forest of Yietnem in order to cut down all of the encroaching plants with a single swing.

V. Quaking Demon Impact. A technique that slams the ground and shakes it with a single punch, disturbing the enemy’s stance. Used tactically by Barbatos to create a fissure in the earth that swallowed up a thousand human soldiers.

VI. Demon Aura Finger. A technique that transmits battle aura directly through a finger. Depending on the nature of the user’s aura, it may stun, harm, or even heal its target. Created by Barbatos to make his enemies explode messily with a single jab but rarely used because of the difficulties in cleaning up afterwards.

***

You wipe your goo-stained hands on your clothes. Misshapen lumps of black jelly are scattered all across the place, quivering helplessly. It had been an enlightening experience, and Quekquek had attempted to fight back if only for a while. What is left of the slimelord is merely a small pile of goo, no more than a toy ball in size. He is no longer able to retain control over the rest of the jelly – here you have learned that if you inflict enough damage, the slime begins to lose mass and the ability to regenerate. It had taken quite a lot of damage to reduce Quekquek to this state, and you cannot help but be slightly impressed at his endurance.

“You… this is not over,” spits the slimelord defiantly. “I am… the weakest. Of the four Dark Hands. Of the Dark Lord. The others… you would be like a speck to them!”

You tread on the slime, grinding it under your foot. It is squishy but also firm. “Weakest? I thought you said you were his right-hand slime or something.”

After an awkward pause, the slimelord begins to laugh, and laugh. The small dark ball begins to glow, the pulses of light becoming shorter and shorter in intervals. “I… take you with me!”

“He’s going to blow up!” cries out Aria.

“He can do that alone,” you call back. You swing your foot and punt the slimelord up into the sky. Quekquek screams with rage. “Sheeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-“

The black sphere soars up into the clear blue sky. A second later there is a flash of light and a low rumbling noise as a rush of displaced air sweeps over you. Then, there is nothing but silence. Well, silence, and the happy burbling of numerous slimes, who have swiftly returned to their queen now that the danger is gone.

You turn to the slime queen, her progeny flocking around her. “Now that the interfering idiot is gone… let us continue where we left off, shall we?”

She nods. “Very well. I… we… owe you. What favour do you seek?”

You move closer to her, beckon at her to lean towards you. Brunnen does so. You whisper in her ear what you need.

A swirl of pink travels across the pristine blue of the slime queen’s face. “That is… possible. But would not work.”

“What? Why not? You haven’t even tried,” you say quickly while your hands move to your belt. "We can get it over with quickly."

“You. Angel... Angel? I think. Your physiology… immune to change. Like just now, with toxins.”

“You mean…”

“Aphrodisiacs have no effect,” she says apologetically. “Sorry. You came all the way here. For nothing. Can I do anything else?”

You scratch your chin, thinking how best to salvage the situation and your wasted trip. Slimes are valuable to the right person, Zayan told you as much. Any single slime can be coaxed into producing a wide variety of useful compounds. A slime queen is worth even more.

“How about you move in with me?” you suggest.

“I am sorry. What did you say?” Brunnen tilts her head in puzzlement.

“This place is becoming too dangerous for you, don’t you think? I know of a good, safe place, away from humans. Besides, the knights are coming to investigate the disturbance thanks to the black slime invasion.”

“They… I see.” The slime queen appears to be saddened. “All the more reason. I should stay. My presence. It fulfills the knights’ needs. I provide them… just enough children to kill. At the same time. The forest remains wild. Untouched. Regarded as dangerous. Human settlers do not arrive.”

“Is it so important that the forest is not settled?” you ask.

“Yes. My matron, and her matron before her, tells me this. Even now, they remind me. Humans must not live here. I am sorry, but I must stay. I will handle the knights. They can be appeased. Tricked.”

***

A. You have the slime queen give you a few young, nubile slime girls that you can bring back to Grahferde. She tells you that if you nurture them long enough, they may turn into another queen. Meanwhile, you will leave the slime queen to her own devices, as she wishes.

B. Turning up your charm, you persuade the slime queen to come with you and abandon the forest. It might take too long to raise another slime queen from scratch, and you do not have the patience for such an endeavor. There is already plenty on your plate.

C. The forest will be considered even more dangerous, maybe even cursed, if you torch the entire region and kill the knights when they arrive. That should fulfill the slime queen’s obligations. Granted, when you are done there will be no more forest, but that is a mere technicality.

Thank you, I needed a laugh. Though poor Aaron may now have to find another soul to latch on.

Immunity to toxins, eh? That's neat.

Of course. :salute:

Poking stuff is what we naturally do. Hopefully, at higher levels it would instantly explode men and bring women to an orgasm.

Also, killing people with a flick of a finger is just cool beyond even the wildest Gigadynes.

I wonder what's in this forest that the matron appreciates so much. Why mustn't it be explored? Is there something inside that the Dark Lord wants or that the humans may use? Does it have some kind of properties that make it different from ours?

I think it is time to put our charming face on and try to convince the matron. The Dark Lord will send another servant here just like he sent TopKek. Knights may be not the only thing to worry about.

And if in her absense something apocalyptic occurs, like unsealing of an Ancient Evil... well, too bad for Yuiria. :M

Tentative B. I am dissatisfied with our Charisma application so far! :rpgcodex:

She doesn't know either. All she knows is that her ancestors told her it shouldn't be settled by humans.

I think the first two moves create simple and decent combo. First you stun them and then penetrate them, but I am sure that wiser codexers have more creative and better combos.

I think I gamble on trying to persuade the queen to come with us. What is in this forest may be nothing more than plain stubborness to keep it amids all these human kingdoms or it may be really, really stratetig key area of demon kings of old. There might even be one of those annoying plot Mcguffins there or perhaps one of those demon weapons.

Or it may just contain Vintage porn magazines.:M

Two questions.

1) Are we finally flight capable, or are our wings just for show? How useful is climbing walls to us right now?
2) Are we immune to anything that affects our physiology? Sleeping pills, alcohol, alchemical potions? Do healing potions still work?

You can fly.

All of those probably won't work. You are definitely unable to get drunk. The healing potions from your world might work if they actually heal with divine power as advertised. Potions made from healing herbs won't.

You can fly.
Any restrictions on weight or the height/duration of flight? Is it a short-time thing, or can we actually stay airborne and travel that way?

We probably could lift Aria&Arlin, but I doubt we would Rin or Lucy.

Just wondering how much of a GTFO leeway we have whenever Teleport is unavailable.

I think that forcing the queen to move might be bad fsr. Besides, the girls will be good for...troop moral - though I'm sure there would be plenty of girls if the queen moved in too.

You know Angels are hardcore, when even artificially created slimes know about them.
I have much to discuss/ask, but first, I'll post my choices for an easier reading.

1. VI. Demon Aura Finger (Hokuto Shinken, Panzer Kunz, Kekken, the Shinning Finger AND The Touch rolled into one? YES!!! Give me five!) ; IV>V>I (I dunno which one to choose, all of these are good).

2. A. I'm not sure what B involves here. Will Erd display his best puppy face and then alternate between "Would you kindly...?" and "please, please, please?" until the Queen agrees or kicks him out? Or perhaps will she ask us to do something for her before agreeing?

In fact, it would be good for us to wait a little until the knights arrive. With a little of luck the rookies will be there as well (most likely to "avenge their fallen comrade"). If so, it would be interesting to capture them (these were Eileen, Nina and Oliver IIRC). The first two should be taken to increase Erd's harem collection and the latter so that the twins have another kid of their age to talk with, along with ensuring Aria's obsession with her master doesn't grow too much (or at least until she's old enough), give some food to the slimes and work with Zayan (as a test subject, to be specific). Of course, any other adult female knights will be welcome as well. :M

And if they don't, we still can use subterfuge, disguises and Another Face to blame Barzham about the attacking slimes, messing up the political landscape even further.

Meanwhile, C is clearly influenced by Erdrick's angelic nature, who is bored and demands Erd to kill/destroy more stuff.

-------------------------------------------

Now, I have many things to ask and comment. First, this Gauntlet of Barbatos sure is powerful, I bet it increases our physical attack stat a rank or two at least for the purposes of damage and such. Second, can physical techniques be charged? As in spend more mana than necessary to activate them in order to cause a greater effect (just like Gygadine). The techniques I, IV and V seem to imply they can be charged (especially the Quaking Impact one). Third, do offensive techniques require us to manifest the battle aura/Barbatos to work? Some of these seem to mention one of the two, but I don't know if it's a general rule. Fourth, does summoning Barbatos increase the power of these techniques? And since they use mana as well, does that mean that Erdrick will recover faster from fatigue caused by using techniques thanks to the effects of his Halo? Fifth, would an antimagic field affect these techniques?

What is clear is that maybe we no longer need the "Holy Sword of 'X'" that much. I believe Zayan could do something if we give said sword to her, be it to unlock its true powers or even "corrupt" the weapon to enhance its propierties.

Another topic I wish to discuss are the Angels themselves. Their near-immunity to poisons, toxins and such is a double-edged sword. In one hand, that quality will make befriending the local dwarves an easy task. On the other hand, it can be problematic if we need healing and we cannot cast spells for any reason. Either way, this revelation gives more strength to the "Angels were created to be a bioweapon" theory. They're pretty much magical Space Marines. Unfortunately, either they achieved sentience by accident, or their limited ability to enjoy life's simple pleasures (most likely caused intentionally so they didn't reproduce too fast and/or to be better in the battlefield) had the unfortunate side-effect of making them eventually go berserk. The latter would explain why they are so bloodthirsty: the poor bastards have a lot of pent-up frustration that remains constant in their lives.

That reminds me: what does Barbatos know about Angels? Since he's clearly an experienced traveller, he must know something about these. So, can Mercant ask him if they really are aggressive all the time? Are they good candidates to have a friendly spar with? Are Angels very susceptible to inappropriate comments about their wingspan? And, lastly but not least, has he seen a female Angel at some point?

Finally, now that the regeneration machine demonstrated its efficiency, perhaps we'll have the chance to ask Rin about her wings, what she can do with these and how she does that. I'm sure Mercant will show curiosity about this topic. Or at least repair Mieren's body, probably making it easier to resurrect her.

Hokuto Shinken, Panzer Kunz, Kekken, the Shinning Finger AND The Touch rolled into one? YES!!! Give me five!
Five-fingered technique would give a DnD spell Prismatic Spray a run for its money. And it's a 7th level one, too. :salute:

I'm not sure what B involves here.
If I were Erd, I'd point out that the Dark Lord would come here eventually or sends his other generals here, and we won't be there next time to protect her, meaning that she would lose her freedom/life and the forest.

Even if it might not be true and the Dark Lord no longer has ability or the inclination to visit here again, I'd still use him as a scarecrow.

Mind you, I think that taking the slime queen would be bad (she says as much), on a same level of 'bad' with disrupting one of the Demon seals in Sengoku Rance. Then again, when did it ever stop Rance? The guy had no clue and just wanted to have fun. :M

In fact, it would be good for us to wait a little until the knights arrive. With a little of luck the rookies will be there as well (most likely to "avenge their fallen comrade"). If so, it would be interesting to capture them (these were Eileen, Nina and Oliver IIRC).
I am wondering if we ever see them again. Oliver was kind of funny, I loved the little detail when he waved back at Aria. Would be a shame if we won't meet again with Eileen, too.

Then, you know my stance on taking prisoners. Unless we have the means to make them work for us and not betray us, or we kill them off, I'd rather not do it.

And if they don't, we still can use subterfuge, disguises and Another Face to blame Barzham of the attacking slimes, messing up the political landscape even further.
We really should stop politicking when we don't know what we are doing. We tried entering the court intrigue scene already, and it didn't turn out well for us.

Lastly, now that the regeneration machine demonstrated its efficiency, perhaps we'll have the chance to ask Rin about her wings, what she can do with these and how she does that.
I support this idea as long as we ask her about what she can do with her tail, too.

Any of the A choices won't reveal much.

Hmm...

Good thing that the forest is really isolated and placed away from civilization. That, or sky explosions and earthquakes are quite common in this region.

Jeez, Erdrick, are you desperate enough to do that in front of Aria? Could you at least get some privacy? I mean, it's not like he at some point briefly considered to rip off his clothes and assault the first slime he came across... Oh wait. :troll:

Fun update. Thank you for your hard work, treave.

Nevill

I don't think the Slime Queen is protecting a doomsday device of some sort. Instead, she's probably protecting the forest because her ancestors always did so. But, in the case she actually does have something, it would be of our interest to take it for ourselves as a budding Overlord.

About the prisoners' issue, I'm sure sooner or later we'll have to deal with it, one way or another. However, since our headquarters keeps growing, soon enough it will be an easy task to construct a prison 5-star hotel for our guests. Then there's the matter with Erise village, which we still have to conquer/assimilate peacefully.

We really should stop politicking when we don't know what we are doing. We tried entering the court intrigue scene already, and it didn't turn out well for us.

Yes and no. We could have done better yes, but what closed the deal was Rin's "cunning plan". Besides, the little we know about the Barzam guys is that they're overzealous, inhuman-hating racists (even more than what passes as the usual for this world). That should be enough to put them in our shitlist, permanently.

Well, for some reason she specified that it is humans who shouldn't invade the forest. It is possible it is of no use to us.

Regardless, we can't grab it as we don't know what it is yet.

However, since our headquarters keeps growing, soon enough it will be an easy task to construct a prison 5-star hotel for our guests.
Maybe then, but the problem is twofold. There are no inescapable prisons, and even less 5-star hotels. So holding people against their will is going to carry risks. That problem can't be dealt with just getting thicker bars and higher security.

You want some friends for Arlin/Aria, and I can definitely see Arlin getting them out (Aria much less so). You have to have some incentive for them to stay with you.

Then there's the matter with Erise village, which we still have to conquer/assimilate peacefully.
For what purpose?

I suppose they can pay us taxes and whatnot, but this stretches us a bit thin and saddles us with certain responsibilities.

Besides, the little we know about the Barzam guys is that they're overzealous, inhuman-hating racists (even more than what passes as the usual for this world). That should be enough to put them in our shitlist, permanently.
They are on mine, surely.

I was saying that because I think it might be another of Byarlant plots. By shifting blame left and right where it does not belong we may make life easier for them and harder for us in the nearby future.
