I agree on the Arlin Diplomat path, I also like that he stands up for his own opinion. It's seems indeed best to invest some time in him. All the other choices have some obvious drawbacks anyway...

About the reward. Money seems too straightforward. It's not something you ask from a crown prince, who wields power.
Power is always more important than money.

The post in the magic society seems okay. But do we really want to climb up the ranks of the magic society? This is not the Zhang Yue way.
The obvious route would be to organize a tournament and defeat them all at once...

The knighthood seems weird. We are not a knight. One of the knighthoods is led by familiy of the female Lieutenant...

Information about the angel is too obvious.

Asking for nothing is stupid.

So it's pretty obvious we have to ask for E1 a night of entertainment/romantic dinner with lieutenant Leila Milhaus... I am sure everyone can get behind this.

We could also aim higher and ask for an evening with the youngest princess. This actually seems a way better idea. We already have acces to the lieutenant... But we want to meet:

Second Princess Faislin Yuiry (17). Youngest daughter. Recently graduated from the University of Hazel in Gran Byarlant, and returned to serve her family and country. Child of Fowyl & Natalia.

I mean. She is the obvious end goal of this chapter. We should get ourselves a headstart here.

I flip my flop to E2: A meeting with Princess Faislin Yuiry.

She'll probably be on the banquet too. We should be carefull with our words, in such manners that she should be intrigued by our proposal...

The obvious drawback of taking Arlin is that we go to the banquet with a male. That's a horrible precedent to set.

*sigh* If only we had imagination. To quote the classics,
But noooo, you jerks had to go and blow our wad earlier than a virgin at a hooker convention
No patience at all. Tsk-tsk.

An ask-me-anything favor for an evening with the Prince's subordinate probably doesn't cut it. If it's going to be E1, we should ask for Leila Milhouse to be given into our service altogether. I'd vote for it then, especially after we have just passed on a perfect lieutenant from Dijeh because he was a man. :M

As for the princess, she is bound to show an interest to as, as would all the powers. What happened at Erise probably is not a secret in the capital, one way or the other (though Farland or Barzamite survivors).

That is why I'm voting for the +1 titties option every time. Someone must.
Very well, 1 E2>E1, to honor the principle of more tits.

It is possible said dinner would end up in the most terrible way we can imagine, considering the girl dislikes us a lot and Mercant is anything but subtle... But I like the sound of that (if only to see how Erd is cockblocked yet again). So I'll change my votes to: 1. E2>E1>B>D 2:A4>A3>A5>A2>A6.

EDIT: I misread. Then I'll take the third option and vote for the two.

Huh? We aren't entering as an initiate and working our way up. That would be an insult to the man whose magic was already masterful enough to defeat a group of other mages and save a prince. We expect full membership and access to archives and research.

That reminds me: joining a mage order might present unexpected issues, due the fact most of Erd's spells and his usage of these is different from what they do in this world (for not to mention his inability to read). But I'm sure he'll be able to make up some good excuse.

The request mentions that we ask for a post - any post - as long as it is available. Hard to be picky when the choice suggests we don't even know if they have a magical society of any kind. Something tells me that a position of a royal archmage or its equivalent is not going to be vacant. :M

Going by our record of not receiving exactly what we expected, I wouldn't be surprised if they only had janitor positions open.

Which is totally fine, because all we need is a pretense under which we could enter their library or whatever they have. God forbid we get an actual job with real responsibilities.

Well, we are talking about an existing structure. It might not be up to the Prince to change it, so we would probably get whatever is available.

I just wanted to point out that what we get is not really important. We are unlikely to receive access to some of their more sensitive documents, but I doubt the notion of what we are allowed to do by rules or laws has ever stopped us before.

If we get the magical society post, then my bet is that we will become princes very own magical adviser. Like any good aristocratic, I think prince will try to somehow grow his own power base while keeping a powerful wizard a happy wizard.
If my guess is right then we get fairly good position and very few responsibilities to magic society, but the down side perhaps is that we interigate ourselves more to prince in methussian royal family.

Whatever is that good or bad I don't know, but I am pretty sure it doesn't close the doors to other royal family members trying to get us on their side once they know how powerful we are.
Personally I don't mind manipulating the prince from shadows and leaving those pesky public events and other stressful and bothersome things to prince as long as we are the primary force to guide his actions.

I'll flop to the option of getting her in our service permanently with my original BA1 as my secondary should it not win.

Speaking of a shopping tour, why didn't we buy anything for Aria or Rin while we were in Ontoglia, treave? I thought that was the whole point of not splurging money left and right.:rpgcodex:

Slipped my mind and when I remembered there was no good place to drop it in.

Closing votes for B A4.

Ah, well. Hopefully, when we finally peddle the junk we've been hauling from the village we'll have money enough for both of them. No better place for shopping than the capital.

As for Arlin... I guess one advantage of bringing a village boy along is that all the pretty princesses and noblewomen wouldn't think that we are with someone. :M

Good that we didn't bring Aria along, then. The nobles here are more degenerate than we are! Probably the king's influence.

We should learn a thing or two from them. :M

Oh, and aren't BL fantasies strictly Rin's domain? Why not introduce him as our page? These nobles do have pages, right?

You are not a noble. You would have an apprentice, which is pretty much what Arlin is.

"This boy is my page," Erdrick said, wondering why the chubby man had taken a sudden interest in his relationship with Arlin.

"Ah, your page." The fat, pig-eyed noble grunted happily and gave him a conspiratorial wink. "He must do a very good job of warming your... shoes... I see you are a man after Methussian pleasures, foreigner. Do not worry. You are amongst friends here. In fact, I run this nice little club down on Bow Street..."

Running clubs like these was pretty much the reason I chose the Mastermind. :M

I'd visit.

Seriously, though, we should consider buying out or otherwise getting ownership of a brothel or two. First, it would fit thematically for our character to want to own one, and second, there is no better place to collect rumors for an information broker than the one where all sorts of nobles come to to unwind. Half of them would pay money just to have someone listen to their problems. If we manage to get our hands on the most prestigious establishment in the city we would have a golden mine. Seeing how we will inevitably be drawn into petty politicking involving several kingdoms, this would really help us to not become a blind pawn in someone else's schemes.

Sadly, we've already used a favor, so if we even decide to pursue this path we would have to come up with some other plan.

Access to magical library will defninately make our future tavern much better than lousy tavern, why do you think wizards write all those potion recipties?
Healing potions you say? No, the truth is that those potion instructions are for high quality highly magical beverages using hihgly devolped magical distilling and other means of getting alcohol from materials.

Much better way to get moneys than some lousy healing potion, which is only bought by adventures.

Edit: Guys!
Lets make our economic cornesrstone by making massive multinational beer company to get troops and equipment for our armies!

Beers, Taverns, wenches and army of doom!
What is better way for merchant mage to become overlord than getting monopoly on beer market and having multiple information stations vie many bars and having good old fashioned army:salute::salute:

Ah, but add a few ingredients to a healing potion, and you will have the whole Adventurer's Guild on your leash once the withdrawal hits. :M

I'm a bit disappointed that Lucy didn't win at the end. Although, perhaps it's for the better, seeing how these nobles are. Oh well, we'll see how it goes anyway.

No nevill.
Making adventure guild to serve evil overlords is against very nature of universe like plants functioning without suns or fishes living with monkeys.
If we try to control adventures, the very essential people overthrowing overlords then universe and fate itself will use big guns againsts us.

We can mislead, lie and manipulate to extend adventure guild without heavy boot of fate kicking our ass, but never control it for it's against way of very life.
