it's amazing how ninjas will always fuk u up whether it's 1985 or 2016. It was during my last Wiz 5 playthrough that it dawned on me just how absolutely important a decent agility score is for your melee attackers; it's absolutely imperative that they have a good chance to attack the ninjas/samurais before they attack you. Hell, agility is good on everybody. The best tactic against ninjas is to simply melt their faces with Tiltowaits/Mabarikos/Lahalitos and if you don't think you can fire off one of those spells for whatever reason use a Petrify Group spell or Fear Group spell, I think it was called Mogref (don't remember).

Also don't underestimate the Lord/Priest/Bishop's Labadi and Badi spells respectively. That shit works. The most important thing to avoid being beheaded is to have your -AC as low as it'll go; if they can't get through your -AC they can't behead you. Having one character cast Bamatu (lowers AC by 4 for party) as a first round action and having everyone else cast whatever is a good routine when facing enemies who fuck you up via their melee strikes (ninjas/samurais/mythological creatures/vampires/succubi/demons/etc). After 1 casting of Bamatu you can cast the little-brother version of that spell, i think it's called Matu (?), and it'll lower your party's AC further by an extra 2 points.

EDIT: And when all else fails... just spam Katino. That spell is god-tier.

Is there a English translation of Elminage Original for PC?

nope, well I don't think, game came out on jan 28. can be played in english on psp though.(translation kind of sucks but it's ok if you can get the patch).


whew, wish I could just hold a button to lvl up like on psp. have to press the key every time... 1 800 ish more to go heh.

why don't you use an auto-hotkey script to turn the confirm key into a turbo button? it's what i do. download the auto-hotkey program from their website, install it, and double-click this simple script: http://frd.li/d54a1d0dd3a9fc9a

that script simply makes the ENTER/RETURN key press itself repeatedly if you hold down the SPACE BAR. Let me know if you want to change it to something other than SPACE BAR, or if your Confirm key is not ENTER.

by the by, i'm enjoying elminage 2 more than i thought i would. i was hesitant at first because i'm not a big fan of elminage: original. i actually don't really enjoy or even truly appreciate outdoor environments for dungeon-crawling and the majority of elminage original takes place either in swamps and forests or open skies and cities. in fact a huge part of the reason i enjoyed wizardry empire 2 (and emp 3 to an extent but it pales in comparison to the 2nd one) is because of the many great actual DUNGEONS and MAZES.

i also wasn't a big a fan of having the area design, period. the area maps in elminage original are... mmm, to put it diplomatically they are "bare". they are big areas with lots of square shapes and nothing interesting inside. in fact the only proper and real dungeon in elminage original is the dragon's fang!

i got into elminage 2 though and i gotta say they really really improved every single area of complaint for me in comparison to Original. the areas are still not real dungeons but they are more maze-like and the game is much harder overall; they also put a lot more nasty tricks and death-scenarios in the area maps which was missing from Original. i actually feel tension and a sense of exploration and dread on these maps which i never did playing Original.

the maps in this one are much better than the ones in Original; huuuuge improvement. many more traps, tricky navigation, asshole tricks to fuck you up, etc. enemies are tougher overall. weapons can break (yay). of course the maps are still not as good as the ones in wiz empire 2 though. i still think that's starfish best in terms of map design. emp 3 so far is a mixed-bag. it's good but... meh.

weapon don't break in elminage 2, except if some monster has that ability and break your stuff, just like the first game.

Elminage 2 was fun the first time, but for me I prefer the first game overall when I replay them. first game is shorter, elminage 2 kind of drag after a while, I mean there's so many dungeon. also preferred the last dungeon of the main story in the first game.
post game is pretty much same, well not exactly the same but quite similar.
the game is a little more difficult because of a few new monster but it still not that hard.

the third game is the easiest if you know one trick that really break the game.

of course, i don't mean it's "hard" hard. it's just harder in comparison to Original. in Original you can win the story-dungeons and even wreck inside the dragon's fang just by having everyone spam Flame Rods that u get in the beginning of the game lol



rite now i'm levels 10-11, the best part of these games usually. you're not super powerful yet and every encounter is fun.

I'm willing to bet it was done as an answer to people who whined about the art-style. Some people really, really, like that generic bug-eyed look. Thank goodness it's simply an option, though.

i was just making a list of all the wiz-clone DRPG's released in the last 17 years (starting with Starfish's 1999 release of Wizardry Empire for the Game Boy Color) in order to update the list in the OP and I stumbled upon this bit of info: apparently Starfish's 2005 release of the NDS game Wizardry: Asterisk is a remake/re-imagining of Wizardry 1: proving grounds of the mad overlord set in feudal japan.

interesting to say the least. btw, apparently Experience is developing Demon Gaze 2 right now and its targeted for XBONE; didn't see any mention of Vita or PC release.

Sorry if I am mistaken but I don't see the wizardry throbe in a demon's heart for snes. Feudal Japan themed wizardry. It looked good but I don't know much more about it's development.

yeah there's a few that need to be added. gonna include the non-english releases in the OP soon. wiz gaiden 4 was released for snes in 1996, it's sequel wiz gaiden 5: dimguil was released in 2000 for ps1 and is the last game in the gaiden series until the 2006 release of wiz gaiden: prisoner of battle for pc and ps2.

wizardry asterisk can be quite challenging....but if you know a little trick at the end, it makes grinding MUCH easier hehe.
