Probably you have already started and have reference but here is a link to an excellent resource, the rpg.rem.uz archive, it has pretty much every book for almost every rpg:
Its too bad 2nd edition compendiums are mostly black and white but the cover art is really good and especially the ravenloft and dark sun books would be cool.
Thanks to you and whoever else is able to work on it. Im on the road unfortunately but looking forward to the output.
Thanks for the link!
Unfortunately, I consulted with the in-house specialist in PnP lore (Zed), and indeed… All the cool drawings are from the b/w era. Gathering enough good —and consistent— color paintings would be an enormous and maybe not even fruitful task.
But I realized there's a much simpler solution out there, one we even have online browsers for: MTG art. The old cards feature some fantastic illustrations that can span the entire bestiary.
Yeah, that's it, we're gonna steal from WOTC.
If you provide square ones I can convert them to circles later on. Since last time I posted tokens I think I've mastered circle conversion technology, and now get nice unified look :D
It won't be as simple as converting from square to circle, but it's not that far either: looking for a replacement image in the MTG database and importing it to the token creator.
I've already weeded out the tokens into the ones that need to be changed (vs the one that one
could consider doing in a distant future), broke the remainders into manageable chunks, and devised the workloads so that it won't feel overwhelming for anyone.
