So, aside from us picking apart his personality and shitting on him to the point of hoping he never touches a game again, what do lower level folks at Obsidian think of him?

Does anyone know any folks at Obsidian? IHaveHugeNick Didn't you work there at one point or something? Sorry I can't remember.

I watched it just because. It was a blurb of an interview, where Sawyer narcissistically says he doesn't have the "pulse" of the modern audience, which is why he wouldn't make a successful RPG in the modern world etc. He even poo-poo'd Baldurs Gate 3 in this dismissive fashion about how much they spent, etc. Overall, it was enlightening in the sense that he's in some weird way acknowledging he's a failure, but not for being a bad game designer and a shitty dev. Rather, it's because he's an "Artiste!" and too out of touch with the modern folks.

Like WTF, does he think he's Kubrik or something? Apparently he does, and the speaker seems to agree with him. Somehow the speaker really liked Pillars, and thinks he's also out of touch with modern audiences, despite basically Pillars being an attempt at a modernized cash grab of the older RTwP games Black Isle used to shit out on the regular. The guy even praised the Icewind Dale series. Get the fuck outta here.

And then he ignorantly refers to Soyer as a "O.G." as if he's got clout or some horseshit. He's at best a second-gen loser. And then this guy has the idiocy to talk even about New Vegas, as if it was solely Soyboy's work. He's a fucking moron.

I took this to be Sawyer not wanting to directly admit that the sex-crazed, romance obsessed insanity took crpg's down a path he doesn't personally care for. So he just says he doesn't have the pulse.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Wish he would just come out and say it instead of dancing around the issue. I think Tim Cain kinda did in one of his videos.

Soyer is out of touch, but not because of what he thinks. Here's the real secret to making good RPGs that people like and plz remember this is top secret information: Make a well constructed fantasy that would make your inner child happy.

I inclined this, but unfortunately Soyer's inner child is a fucking autistic tard with no social skills who's into "maths n history" cause he totally thinks he'd be a great german pikeman or doppelsoldner rather than the cabin boy / mermaid replacement on a dutch fishing vessel.

Were it be just that, he could make great games - you must be pretty autistic with your interests to make quality shit, which brings to "Soyer's inner child is an autistic whose talent isn't on par with his autism, and whose ideology mixed with the way his autism works is at odds with both real understanding and fun". The latter being the greater sin, since he is into making games.

Listen, I mean it as a legit question. From a business & operations standpoint, I'd like to know what Obsidian contributed to the firm in the last year. Even if it was a cash grab or something else. Does anyone know that info? Should be publicly disclosed. I know some banks are releasing their Q3 details now, so I figure other publicly traded companies would follow suit.

Hence why he should just be a writer and not a designer/producer.

You'll never see it. It'd be a footnote of a footnote if it were to exist at all. Gaming in Microsoft is a blip which is why it didn't get much attention from the rest of the corp until they started spending as much money as possible. Obsidian's operations as a whole are a speck.

This is what they said about gaming in the 2023 financial report, regarding a $5.3 billion decrease in revenue.

  • Gaming revenue decreased $764 million or 5% driven by declines in Xbox hardware and Xbox content and services. Xbox hardware revenue decreased 11% driven by lower volume and price of consoles sold. Xbox content and services revenue decreased 3% driven by a decline in first-party content, offset in part by growth in Xbox Game Pass.
No one gives a shit about Obsidian. Gaming barely offers more revenue than LinkedIn and probably costs a hell of a lot more.

The issue with Josh Sawyer, is none of his games are very good. Not many people like them which is why they dont sell well =/

For me it's predominantly the quests/npc writing etc, also all Obsidian games always have mega cities with hours and hours of boring content.
