I'm sure POE would've been even more insufferable if it was a cinematic cover shooter with cutscenes.
He says the problem is with "cinematic storytelling", which is usually a 4 act story. You have to explain why it's bad if you agree with him.
he didn't say anything about 4 act story. "Storytelling and mechanics of cinema" may as well mean "using cinematic cutscenes" and "locking player in a scripted sequence".

If he wanted to say cutscenes he should've said cutscenes.
If you google storytelling + cinema, you'll be suggested some books on "the art of cinematic storytelling", which in turn will talk about the 4 acts.

If he can't even express himself coherently in a tweet, how can he pretend to understand storytelling.

I can't wait when, 10 years from now, the PoE series will be considered a cult classic, even by people shitting on it right now. You know and I know it's coming.

By that time so many member of past and current generation is either left or self eject and be replaced by the younger gen that consider POE 1, BG3, Bethesda Games, or any mediocre to bad game as Classic.

Oh and also Infinitron becoming the owner of this site.

"which is usually a 4 act story." Let Sawyer explain and defend himself, I say, you've probably got a smarter argument than he does.

he didn't say anything about 4 act story. "Storytelling and mechanics of cinema" may as well mean "using cinematic cutscenes" and "locking player in a scripted sequence".

Basically, what Wunderbar said, and the fact we have to speculate on the argument to try and find validity is telling.

I don't think Uncharted mechanics suck, I think their arena combats are well done but the mechanics are so disconnected from the "cinematic" story, which actually keeps me going through the game because I do care about the characters.

It's like story - arena fight - story - arena fight - story, etc., but it's not the mechanics that make me care enough to keep going, for good or bad.

The fact Last of Us 2 had the nerve to attack its own studio game mechanic approach (and offer NO alternative) "oh, we do the murder, we are bad so you should feel bad for buying" was beyond stupid, and they could have gone for a more redemptive message for the game and the players vs. dictating the morality when there's no choice to deviate from it. Fuck them.

I wouldn't mind it if more of it was on par witht he white march, that's where that series peaked anyway.

He's absolutely right. When games emulate movies they aren't emulating high art cinema or even fun action type movies. They're emulating the bottom scraping trash which has the widest appeal. In other words modern games are emulating predictable, hollow, banal shit. Unless you thought GTA:V was a great game.

When I see a Stand like this from a developer, I have to ask:

- What cinematic games of this type have you played
- Do you normally play these games or immediately decide not to based on bias
- What is the "cinema" in the game trying to accomplish
- What kind of cinema do you enjoy outside of games
- Is that cinema that you claim to enjoy relevant or interesting to most gamers
- Are you autistic

If Dancer in the Dark is your benchmark then I agree game cinematic resources devoted to a similar experience would not be interesting.

I don't even disagree with his point necessarily, I just find Sawyer's stands on shit to be eye-rolling.
The worst part of it is really that what he says (to the extent he says anything) isn't even an unpopular opinion. It's just some sort of humblebrag or whatever you'd call having a popular opinion but pretending it's a detriment to you.

Cult classic games have mods. PoEs do not.
PoE has at least one enduring and popular mod. I dunno, some fag made one I guess.

Really? Like Icewind Dale 2?
Are you saying that IWD2 has mods or that it's not a classic?
Because yeah, it's not a classic, and it does have a few mods, but only due to being an Infinity Engine game, where it's a matter of changing some lines and you adapt a BG mod to an IWD mod. A bit of an exception, because of that.

Why are there rumours suddenly spreading that the "secret project" that Sawyer is doing is an isometric Fallout game?

Grab the Codex by the pussy Strap Yourselves In Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Fallout fans on non-Codex forums are fucking insane, don't bother taking anything they say seriously.
