This game is gonna get trashed in the reviews.

I swear, mainstream video game writers live in a completely different reality than the rest of us. Who are the tasteless journo shills giving this game 9/10s? Fucking absurd.

It's already starting:

I think it's fine to have a narrative director, assuming a campaign storyline, VA, etc.

That being said, that cutscene above has single handedly stripped me of any desire to purchase or play this thing. It was highly effective!

This had a narrative director!?

Even better, a Managing Director of Narrative Properties, whatever the fuck that means.

Here's an interview with this PhD haver: https://www.homeworlduniverse.com/homeworld-3-qa-with-managing-director-of-narrative-properties-lin-joyce/#:~:text=Homeworld 3 – Q&A with Managing,Properties Lin Joyce - Homeworld Universe

Her PhD was in Narrative System Design, whatever the fuck that means.

My love for Narrative Design took a little longer to flourish, and it’s possibly too jumbled a journey to untangle here, but I can say that it comes from a combination of interests: narratology (the study of narrative structures, themes, conventions, etc.), social agency theory, literature, theater, and game design. Many of the issues and criticisms against games, especially “story” games, were old criticisms applied to a new medium. As a scholar, I wanted to take a closer look at how older mediums grew, altered, or changed as a result of these criticisms and see if any of the same tactics could be applied to games. That investigation ended up leading me to a PhD in Narrative System Design. And while my focus of study changed over time, I’ve been thinking about storytelling in games ever since.
There's pretentious. And then there's incomprehensibly pretentious.

This is the bullshit that academic "writers" trot out when they want to seem smart.

Clearly if she had any writing chops at all she would've gone into solodev making porn games like me.

Oh HW should have one. The question is what were they doing!? I'm fairly certain that there's a least a dozen of us on this forum alone that could have 'directed' this 'narrative'.

But that isn't the problem is it? The problem is that the director didn't play or know anything about why the original was great, the director themselves was directed by the modern incloosive diversity mentality. Compromised from the outset.

I mean it S'jet is already a pretty good female 'lead' to run with but noooo, gotta shoehorn in some fuckwits and drop all pretense of world building or narrative integrity.

I watched this on Bo stream, and I fucking don't know why they wasted 10 millions of budget on dumb scenes with black "admiral' and a random ugly looking yellow? female.
And story is horribly bad.

WTF they were doing? If they didn't have creativity. Basically all they had to do was to copy Independence war 2 story, nobody would notice it's different ships and viewport. Look Terry Brooks did that with Shanara and everyone was happy. gg.

Instead they did something dumb that looks like rehash of ME3 story and that story was bonkers to begin with.

Jesus Christ, you guys are missing one hell of a disaster.

Reviews are complaining about super invasive data-harvesting EULA, gameplay just being zerg rush at 2 minutes ez gg, devs actively censoring the forums and removing most criticism/denuvo complaints, old fans of the series being bummed, idiot navel gazing story, etc etc. Not sure how much is true but shiiieeet.

Insert Title Here Strap Yourselves In I helped put crap in Monomyth
there's a lot i love about homeworld 3, and there's a lot i hate about it:

the gud:

paul ruskay's sound design and music is still unmatched
rob cunningham's art design is still fantastic, he hasn't lost his edge
the interactive 'space terrain' is legitimately a fantastic idea; this was originally going to be implemented into homeworld 2, but computing power limits at the time couldn't allow it
the first few missions are a blast, and the game starts off strong

now, the bad:

the plot, oh my GOD the plot. no, no, NO. it's marginally better than homeworld 2's story, but it doesn't take much to improve on garbage
the game is just outright broken still in certain respects. i had to more or less wrestle with the ui to get my units to do *anything* sometimes
something is really, really wrong with how some of the units behave. battlecruisers are more or less useless bullet sponges instead of being the harbingers of death and destruction they're supposed to be

look how they massacred my boy

Cheers. Considering the vanished source code this is a brave attempt. Unlikely we will ever see the campaign though?

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
To think we reached a point in history where H2 is considered on the same level of excellence as H1 and HC...
It took us 20 years of progress and a new comparison point just to get here, but I can confidently say that HW1, HW:C and HW2 all look great in comparison to HW3, yes.

rob cunningham's art design is still fantastic, he hasn't lost his edge
Rob Cunningham had little to do with the design this time around - aside from some oversight.
These guys did the bulk of the work:

Not sure how much is true but shiiieeet.
All of it. I'd say that the story acts as a lighting rod for criticism, because it's both Not Like The Previous Games and pretty bad in its own right. The truth is that even if the story hit all the right notes, it wouldn't be able to carry a combination of gameplay, AI, and balance choices they ended up with.

The part where she sits with her eyes closed meditating yet is speaking and moving her head, you just know they did that to not confuse the 'people' that have no inner monologue

Standin' pretty. In this dust that was a city.
Just saw the SkillUp review and since he's somewhat positive about the quality of cutscenes I decided to look them up. First thing to notice was that awful main character who's supposedly the next S'jet. I mean, Deserts of Kharak had some cheap Illustrator moving image cutscenes, but they looked kind of atmospheric, but this, it's just atrocious. And being fully rendered means indeed money and effort went into them.

And it's got from this:

to this:

Definitely skipping this one until it's like -80% off.
