GOG used to have higher standards of curation back in the day
Back when? There was a fuckton of shitty game being released around the time they denied Cleve's game.

What? But I have Grimoire on GOG.
That was like months after they refused Grimoire.
See:
dlbFbzm.jpg

Guess which one was rejected by GOG :-/

I have no issue with these anime JRPGs or VNs or whatever they are, but i can't see how one can accept the game at the left side and reject the game at the right side. Perhaps instead of some robed old dude Hands of Necromancy should have had some big breasted heroine instead - GOG does carry Hedon after all and Hands of Necromancy is pretty much as good as Hedon

Zoom Platform has offered to carry the game at least.
Same thing happened with Grimoire: https://af.gog.com/wishlist/games/grimoire_heralds_of_the_winged_exemplar?as=1649904300

They said that "it's not a good fit for GOG" and the request was fullfilled only after it got around 1000 votes. Pathetic.
And
Since this has become a disconcerting trend from GoG's curation, let's compile a list of decent indie RPGs that we know were rejected by GoG's idiotic curation team:

- Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar
- Vigilantes
- Legends of Amberland
- Das Geisterschiff
- Lurking
- Titan Outpost

Those were all made by Codex posters who informed us directly on the Codex that GoG rejected their games for reasons such as "not high enough production values" when the games look about on par with all the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s games GoG has founded its store on.

Post others ITT when you know about them.

EDIT:
Other games rejected by GoG that posters in this thread found out:
- Steam Marines
- Warlock of Firetop Mountain
- Swords and Sorcery: Underworld
- the PC port of the Japanese Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls
- Aeon of Sands
- Voidspire Tactics
Yeah, they gave Japanese publishers the middle finger by refusing their games. I remember their refusal of Mushihimesama (an STG by Cave) making some waves. Needless to say, the publishers then stayed away for a very long time and even now their contribution is absolutely miniscule.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Yeah, I won't defend GoG on their game selection policies, because I don't know wtf they're doing. Refusing good indies while flooding the store with tons of low effort garbage hentai games. Is the porn game market really so profitable? And on GoG of all places? I doubt it.

Steam's approach has issues too, there's so much stuff it's hard to accidentally find something worthwhile, but then the indies at least get a chance to find an audience if they can rise about the ocean of garbage. I did find good indie games randomly browsing Steam during a sale a few times. GoG has the bad sides of either approach. The store is filled with weird garbage that drowns out everything else, but at the same time they supposedly have a selection process that bars real games from the store, based on vague and arbitrary criteria. It's not even about the principle of allowing porn game or not, I don't care either way and not all of the garbage clogging the store on GoG is porn, but the majority of them are "furry puzzle 3 holiday edition" shovelware, they're barely even games at all. This shit oboviusly doesn't go through any selection process.

GOG's standing among indies is kinda 50/50, some indies outright reject getting their games released on GOG because the lack of any form of DRM makes them so easy to pirate, which has been a real concern for them. It's part of the reason why they've also released Galaxy, the existence of a client is something that publishers in general regardless of size like a lot because they can keep track of what you do with the games you buy.

Old one. Played it. Quite fun, if creepy. Shame the ending is abrupt. The story behind this game's creation is much more interesting, as usual. Hypnospace Outlaw is the next game after Dropsy of the same dev.

These indie games get pirated anyway. Thinking that Steam DRM will generate sales for a game that was cracked 6 monts ago -- is delusional.

I think that some indie studios just cannot be bothered to spend 2 days to prepare DRM free version for GOG or Zoom.

And it does not convince me that authors have any confidence in their title. I may as well not try it at all. It's not like there is shortage of indie releases on any of digital distribution platforms.

I think for most it's just the convenience Steam offers over GOG.
There's been indie devs that have stated they do NOT want their games on GOG for the ease in which you can pirate them. Sure you can pirate Steam games just as easily, but they probably have better insights about the digital literacy of people in general.

I've read the same argument in Antic magazine from 1984: We are not releasing the game on your (less popular) platform because of 'piracy'.

And just few days ago - concerning the game that will come out in May 2024 on the same platform. Authors are fully aware that it will get pirated 24 hours after release. And that best games - protected or unprotected - sell about 400 copies worldwide. But they will still try to boost physical sales by not offering free digital copy for first year or two.

Humans are not rational creatures.

But it's their game. I may still buy it. Of course I'm talking about cartridge version with paper manual - to 'pirate' it for myself.

Not some 0.99$ digital DRM-infested modern crap.

I think that's definitely part of it. I know some devs get pissy about releasing on GOG because it's too much of a pain to have to worry about multiple versions of a game on various stores. I think the guy who made Northern Journey indicated he wouldn't mind releasing his game on GOG but not until he considers it completely finished; i.e., no more bug-squashing updates.

So, by easier to pirate they mean like me just downloading my shit and handing a geekstick of games to them eh?

"Yo! I heard you have BG3 with all the sauce and potatoes! Can i have a plate of that?"

"Sure! Why the fuck not Fred! Go get you some Sven Gayte. Here's the latest patch. I bought it so why not share?"

Pretty much. The idea that some indie devs have is that GOG installers are too "plug and play" for their liking. Once you have one, you don't even need to have an account to play the game.

Did Dark forces and two sons really need remakes? Er REMASTERS?

I'll wait for reviews and comparisons tbh.
