My 17 year old computer which worked fine before has broken. So I'm building a new one with a 4080 super (the 4090 costs twice as much for a measly 5fps more at best) and an R7 7800x3D. 128 gb of RAM of course because RAM is cheap. The parts should be coming in the mail next week. Which old crpgs from two or more decades that need nowhere close to its processing power should I play on it first?

I don't see the point of high end GPU, like who would pay a lot to play woke AAA ESG bugfest in 4k 60fps?

But I agree with Vic, I recommend getting a very large SSD.

How very un-merchantlike of you. This was a bad investment as you will never ever need this much RAM.

Much better to invest in a large SSD and then get tons of HDD storage as well because you can NEVER have too much space.
I will need that RAM to help me run some applications for work. I got a 4 tb SSD too. I was able to pick up a few dozen of those blues and set them up with their own device.

You can probably get some 8k graphics skyrim mods with extremely high quality breast physics these days. Those will require a high end GPU. Also, using the RAM on the GPU is useful for certain applications.

Definitely get an M.2 ssd with pci4 if you have that. At least 1tb, they are awesome. It will be something like 7000+ MB/s. Makes a huge difference for games. 128gb ram is fine, you could probably do fine with 64 though but whatever. It is rare people will use more than about 16, rarer they reach about 32. But if you end up playing some crazy game or modded game and it uses a lot, then you can still play.

Also get a nice screen if you can afford. I think 2k is better than 4k, especially if you play old games. I heard there are problems with the 40x0 nvidia graphics cards, maybe check with Crispy before buying that.

Definitely not enough RAM. You need at least 17 exabytes. Preferably 18.
I'm not sure if the motherboard will fit that. Maybe I should get a new one...
You'll probably need to build a custom datacenter. But if that's the only way to get enough RAM to simulate 2 universes down to the subatomic level simultaneously "for work" then what else can you do?

"Unused" RAM is still used for disk cache. Less important for SSDs but still useful.

Play Darklands instead.

Heroic Adventures in Medieval Germany!
Deep in the twilight of the Black Forest, you and your companions crouch before the robber-knight's tower. Hans, the alchemist, places his mysterious potion by the door. Ebhard the friar implores Saint Dunstan to bless your weapons and armor. And you and Gretchen grip naked long swords, praying your plate mail won't squeak.

With a thundery crash, the door explodes into fragments! You charge inside, swords and maces swinging. One guard falls beneath the power of your blade... then two more! You storm upstairs to the second floor, but there to greet you is Erhard the Red Wolf, the infamous robber-knight, surrounded by his henchmen. Hans tosses a choking potion into their faces and you quickly charge into the fray. The room echoes with the clash of steel on steel... it's a battle to the death in the Black Forest!

Prepare yourself to enter Darklands... the first realistic fantasy role-playing adventure for computers!

Leading a band of four adventurers across the sinister landscape of 15th Century Germany, you'll face the Middle Ages as people believed it to be! A land seething with mythical beasts, religious power-mongers and blood-thirsty sinister robber-knights!

Watch savage battles unfold before your eyes! Travel hundreds of miles by land and sea... from the Frisian Coast to Bohemia... from the Alps to Prussia... visiting over ninety cities along the way!

Your quest for fame and fortune can take you through raucous city streets and dank mine shafts, or from a robber-knight's tower to the terrifying Sabbaths of witches!

So prepare yourself for the astonishing wonders of a realistic fantasy adventure... in the mysterious Darklands!

Improve each character's attributes and skills as the game progresses. No artificial character classes or levels!
Learn alchemical formulas to make your own potions!
Brilliant watercolor-style graphics bring to life and myths and mysteries of the Middle Ages!
Easy-to-use and innovative menu presents you with unprecedented role-playing options.

The RPG ARK Survival Ascended should be pretty demanding (even more than Survival Evolved). You may encounter gay dinosaur couples - maybe even threesomes - but that's about the only woke stuff the devs managed to cram in (to my knowledge) since there are no human NPCs in singleplayer.
