What bothers me is that the same monocled, prestigious gentlemen who were obliterating PoE as a boring sawyeresque failure not six months ago, now proudly gorge themselves on this rotting pile of trash and mumble something like "well, it's kinda cool" or "it's alright for an FPS." That the Codex didn't want to scale to the level of WL2 - so much that it too was ultimately written off as shit (despite TB combat, C&C and everything); yet the same Codex gladly scales to the level of FO4. And now whenever someone rises his voice to say "come on, this game is just pure garbage" what do they hear in response? That it's circlejerk, fishing for brofists, etc.

Not long ago someone mentioned that Codexia is schizophrenic - in a different context - but I think it applies here as well. Fire in one hand and water in the other.

I'd like to go on record and say PoE and Fallout 4 are both shit.
The only difference was that I actually thought PoE might be good.

Yeah the first one with the bed is good, she is smart about it :smug:

In mmos we have something called trash mobs, but this seems to be on another level.

This.

One more subtle difference is that FO4 actually manages to be somewhat entertaining, if played with the right attitude (read: "played as an FPS") and if played while pretending it's not branded as a "Fallout" game.

Anyway, why do people still expect any level of sanity on the Codex?

I mean, there's people here who like Alpha Protocol, or PoE, or FO3, or DA2, or ME2 (or [insert fucking horrible game here]) for that matter...

You think the Codex is some kind of hivemind? You forgot about the multi-headed dick. We fire in all directions.

I am not surprised that Codexers would buy Fo4. I am, however, surprised that Codexers would pay full price for Fo4.

If that were true then games like FO4 wouldn't flourish.
Why not? Look at Cod and asscred. Every year they release the same shit, and every year they make enough cash to justify doing the exact same shit the next year. Fallout 4 is the same thing, the dedicated retard pool is just too large for bad reviews to affect it in any significant way.

Does the Enclave get any mention? I noticed from screenshots that some people have the armor/helmet available.

At least Bethesda knows they can't do a proper RPG, even if their lives depended on it.
You know, this is exactly the problem. I mean the whole "but this is Bethesda" mentality that miraculously perpetuates itself no matter what.

No other company was ever allowed to enjoy such leniency. Piranha Bytes made Gothic 3 and got burned all the way to hell. Bethesda made Oblivion... well, guys, this is Bethesda. Mythic made WAR and now where's Mythic? Bethesda made FO3... hey, this is Bethesda, give us a break. BioWare made DA2 and somehow survived it, though just barely. Bethesda made Skyrim... this is Bethesda, silly, what did you expect?

Ubisoft was forced to apologize for AC:U. Rocksteady had to refund Arkham Knight. Do I need to give your more examples? But for Bethesda somehow everything just works™. They release a game with the story made of idiocy and nonsense, with FPS drops, with a glitch at every step - and everyone's happy. I guess they could fill boxes with dog droppings and it'd still sell like hot pies.

I don't know if it's Todd's animal charisma or just gamers' stupidity but after 10 years it's really annoying to hear the very same excuse every time.

Kinda the same that happens with Obsidian/MCA here on the Codex. :M

I think they could - where they lack the ability, they have the money to hire whomever they want to fill the gap and replace the inept - they just don't want to (even try, as it seems).

That's the power of marketing for you. Having enough money to buy audiences is easier and faster than any explanation about games or mechanics or shit like that. Compare the ammount of merchandising vs the ammount of gameplay shown during FO4's marketing campaign.
They even had a real hype train in Australia.

Edit: besides, Bethesda has made a reputation of "consumer friendly" guys, since the modding community for their games is fucking huge. However, they haven't bothered to explain how mods can potentially break your game to console players. In fact, they haven't even explained how their mod platform for consoles will work, if I remember correctly.

Btw, the new thread title made me think... what's the buzzword for Fallout 4?

I mean we had "epic" for Oblivion and Fallout 3, right? For Skyrim we had "majestic". What is it now? "It just works"?

Regarding the technical issues, the thing is that while their games are full of glitches and there's always a certain percentage of people for who they refuse to run at all (that's a tradition at Bethesda), the majority can play them well enough. For all the sub-par QA they do, they still never released a game with problems so bad that the majority of players couldn't play it (see e.g. Arkham Knight).
And in regards to content, they produce the gaming equivalent of fast food. It's not real food, it's not very healthy, but it satisfies a certain craving and doesn't demand much from you, so from time to time you get some.

The thing is, Bethesda is lazy. Whatever they do, they do half-assed. But they still manage to do it in a way that appeals to a large enough number of people to continue doing it. And why shouldn't they? It pays the bills.
Maybe that is going to change with increasing competition, but those kind of games are still not particularly plentiful.

I fucking love that. "Yeah you know, their games are consistently buggy and broken, but at least they never made a game that you couldn't actually run."
Thanks Beth! :salute:
