Good game. I like just roaming into random buildings and seeing what happens. This one had a friendly robot called Molly who offered to employ me for a science experiment/job. Sounded creepy but I am a tough guy now and ammo is no longer scarce. So I signed up, nice dungeon. You get blasted with radiation to begin with, then there's some shooting and some hacking and some creeping through a duct. It reminded me of System Shock and Deus Ex. You get locked in with no way out so have to figure out a way. I could find various isotope containers and found a machine you could scan them to see what they were. I collected several but only scanned one which was Hydrocloric Acid. I assume you can use them to escape. But I crept through a duct into a room and hacked a terminal and that was another way. And then when you leave... Molly is not happy :D

Also the stuff leaping at my face was unpleasant when my guns were weak. But now I have decent perks it makes a big difference, upgraded guns too, and a new one, a napalm firing gun that solves all problems.

p.s. When people talk about what can you even do with quests in an RPG? ^ This is what you can do, the isotope thing. All quests have to be about going somewhere and killing something / collecting something / clicking something / or escorting something. Well yeah... but if the clicking is an actual interesting quest in a fun dungeon with decent enemies, then that's good.

Pretty much my Fallout 4 experience. Play for 50 hours, "oh wait, there's actually a main quest", delete the save and start a new character a few months later.

I got 80 hours in my playthrough, I've completed 2 misc objectives and 0 quests.
It's a decent enough game so long as you steer clear of any and all quests.

Standard Bethesda play style. Just avoid anything written on paper.

Yeah I have so many quests I looked online for what order to do them and it said do some main quest ones first. Go to Diamond City etc. So I did, what a drag. I hate cities. Lots of going from building to building, loading screens galore, talking to goofy NPCs. I wanna get back out there shooting stuff and chucking my grenades.

If I recall correctly he started enjoying it to own the chuds. Edit: no wait that's just the reason he started this playthrough:
I dedicate my next Fallout 4 playthrough to everyone who said

I will make it an extra slow play, 500ish hours worth of exploration, fun, and dialogue that lets me says

in three different flavours, all with the same outcome. Let's go, Dogmeat.

How come you like Fallout 4 that much

Selling ghouls into slavery.
Lying to a journo and ruining an article just for fun.
Ginger drug addict gf.
Blow up a city block in Boston.
Eradicating an anti-slavery operation that inexplicably focuses on robots.
Wholesome, pro-family messaging.
Holding out for more money to rescue a cat.
Homesteading.
Best combat arenas Bethesda have ever devised.
Greater build variety compared to Fallout 3.

How come you like Fallout 4 that much Late Bloomer ? (If it isn't just a meme thing)

It is a favourite of mine. The meme part of it is more because everyone here dislikes it so much. So it's quite easy to goof around a bit just by posting a picture or praising the game. But it is a favorite of mine for a variety of reasons. I will attempt to be brief.

Exploration - One of my favorite things to do in games is explore. I quite disllike point A to point B aspect of gaming. The Commonwealth is an extraordinarily dense world, full of many unique locations, secrets, environmental storytelling, encounters, etc. There is no reused building layouts, cave layouts etc. Some of the more interesting places aren't marked on the map. Sometimes, I like to roleplay in my head more than roleplaying via dialogue choices. For me, Fallout 4 has a great world to do that in.

Theme - I very much enjoy the post-apocalyptic theme. I like reading books that deal with the subject. It doesn't have to be based on Americana (although that is a plus because I have spent a fair bit of time in the states). I just like the fantasy of a civilization of any type, destroying itself, then exploring what happens next.

Comedy - This is the primary reason I like questing in Bethesda games. They, Bethesda, do unintentional comedy, with their ludicrous writing. Oblivion of course is the king of this aspect of their games. But Skyrim & Fallout 4 also have this in droves. It isn't just questing dialogue either. It's the dialogue the NPC's say as they are just living in the world. Some of the more funny dialogue the enemy NPC's say is hidden behind sneaking. So if you just bum rush into fights all the time you are missing so hilarity. It is when the writers at Bethesda are trying to be dramatic, or trying to bring NPC's to life, that their unintentional humour is best.

Collecting - I like to collect things. Bobbleheads, magazine, unique weapons & armor etc. It's fun to me because it slows the pace of the game down. Carefully exploring and looking for things is enjoyable to me. Also, most junk items have a purpose for settlement building. Working on a large settlement, realizing you need some copper, then going out, knowing (or not knowing) where to go get some can lead to encounters / adventure that you might not have had before.

Perk System - The perk system opens up a lot of build opportunites. Much criticism is directed at the "rifles now do 20% more damage" but when looking beyond that, there are many builds that can be created. This calculator is a good one.
Talent Calculator
These dorks actually made some great videos on the subject of builds. Here is a playlist of them going over the various builds.
Builds Playlist

Mods - There is a plethora of mods to customize the game to, pretty much, however you want it to be. Like power armor? There are tons of power armor mods. Need a new gun? Get a mod of the exact gun you want? Want to have a harem of big tittied bitches? Go mod them in. Want an entire new landmass to explore? Get a mod. Want a full on survival horror type experience? There are mods for that too.

There is quite a bit more I like about it, such as the sound & music, the npc scheduling that brings life to the world, but the reasons I listed came to mind, without being to long winded. I also tend to like games more that I shared in the experience in with my family / friends. A couple members of my family enjoyed the game also, so we were able to talk about and compare our experiences. Show off our characters, settlements, that type of thing. So those good times are also kind of built into the nostalgia of the game, which enhances my enjoyment of it.

I love the Bobbleheads. A problem with EQ after a while was that everyone wanted to rush just through the levels. And the game was largely to blame for that because levels are everything and grinding mobs gets you levels so you don't really need to go exploring beyond that. Something about it bugs me. They make all these beautiful art assets and locations but games don't make good use of them. Stuff like Bobbleheads and the magazines are perfect. You don't spot it unless you are really looking through a place. They are always sitting on the back of a desk or something where you have to be observant to spot it. It engages you more in the world, and rewards you with real stats. I love that. And the unique items.

I really disliked the previous Beth games because they lack a lot of this. I hated just looting a bunch of jank armor and then later glass armor and that's the end of it. Especially when I compare everything to EQ, that game was full of great gear. But this game has really stepped things up. I like all the standard weapons and they don't seem to have removed anything for a change. Only now there's napalm firing, swords with fire or electricity or something on it, a knife that gives a bonus if the first attack is against a target on full health, the huge nuke launcher thing which I always found impractical but now there's also a missile launcher which is great! Lots of grenades and mines, and multiple types of grenades and mines... This is one of the things I've always bitched about, why was System Shock so cool and everything else is so retarded? Well now this mainstream game has raised the bar. The armor too is better, the stealth item I love, triggers whenever something hits me. It only lasts a few seconds and not everything is fooled by it, but a lot of the time it works. I think it's nifty. And I like how you can tweak everything with the robust crafting. I have a metal breastplate that is pretty strong but I shaved a few resistance points off it to give me 5AP. There are items that give you fire immunity! Lots of cool shit, they made crafting actually useful and a fun part of the game.

I like the perks. Could be better but again I like it much more than previous Beth games. I really hated Skyrim's stupid constellations that take forever to level up and all it gives are boring upgrades I barely even wanted. The perks in this game are really good, it motivates me to keep playing to unlock the more powerful things. Bethesda always annoyed me because I wanted to like their games but they always felt so half assed. This one is much better though, I'm impressed.

I might remember it wrong but in Skyrim the perks give things like +20 to fire? I never liked it because I only used the same few spells so if I settled on blasting everything with lightning or whatever, then that perk was useless. But in this game I use lots of different gear. It's far more interesting. I've setup all the hotkeys. #1: Triple barrel shotgun! #2 A revolver with a scope that fires fast and I have plenty of ammo. #3 cant remember but probably decent. 4# my best sniper rifle. 5# lazer rifle. 6# weak sniper rifle but lots of ammo. #7 minigun! #8 napalm sprayer. #9 the missile launcher. Probably my favorite of all <3

So I'm switching between at least several of those all the time. Weak enemies and dogs get sprayed with weak ammo. I save the lazer cells for robots or whatever gets hurt most. Anything big or anything that gets close, the shotgun. And most of the time I try to snipe stuff. I love the grenades and mines too. I didn't care about any of my jank gear in Fallout 3. I like my vast arsenal in this game, they are all great weapons, look and feel good and varied. Also in all previous Beth games, I have never needed to use any buffs. You don't need them when everything dies if you run at it its face and press left mouse. But this game actually challenges me so I've enjoyed the various crazy drugs you can take with the various boosts.

Yes, it sure did. It had a very poorly done perk system, even beyond the +damage aspect of it. Using a perk mod is highly recommended.

It's a lot of fun hearing about your adventures in Fallout 4.

Some Lexington concept art.

Love this game! Could use some better AI though. Twice now I've crouched in a room while bad guys charge at me, ending up in a huge comical pile of bodies.

This is me:

Fun though. I don't like cities so I left seeking adventure. I headed to nearby quests and saw a battle on the way. Banditos had a base near some Super Mutants who I took out with the missile launcher, best weapon ever. Then I rushed the bandits with my molotovs, chuck it right in their face! Totally PG13. Fun though, being a mad bomber. They are doing more damage now that my perks are better and I got that bobblehead.

There was a fire escape leading to the roof which looked good. They really improved the locations. The game sometimes reminds me of Sniper Elite, sneaking through bombed out buildings and there's even a slow mo bullet cam when you get a good shot on a head.

I only went up to the roof to look out and hopefully reach my quest from above. But there was a door so I went in. Really nice dungeon/building! Again they are much better now with world design and geometry and stuff. The building was run down with holes in the floors and walls. I could jump through to the level below, and there was a Legendary boss guy in the next room, and he nearly spotted me through a hole in the wall. This is all way more advanced than previous games. He was a hell of a fight too. Molotoved him in the face but then he mutated and grenaded me. My next attempt I used the Buff thing to slow down time and got the edge. Under rated game.

They really should not have a talking main character. I lock-picked a suitcase and the guy goes, "Nice!" but all it had inside was a red dress.

Again the items are better too. From the Legendary bad guy I got a special item that slows down time if you reach 20% hp.

Not even sure. I helped Paladin Vance and his 2 peeps. Then I did one or two quests for them and I think I have some more. But I headed to Diamond City. Visited most of the peeps, got some more quests. Decided to go wandering instead! I will probably head back there after I do some random quests / breaking & entering.

The main reason I ask is because having the Brotherhood of Steel spawned into the world adds some additional elements that add to the chaos during exploration. A lot of Vertibird action with the BoS jumping out and fighting, super mutants / raiders etc shooting at the Vertibirds causing them to crash violently. It's quite something.

From the sounds of it, you would need to go to Valentine's Detective Agency in Diamond City, go find Nick, go back to Diamond City and talk to Nick at his agency, do his little quest, then go to Fort Hagen and deal with that. That will spawn in the BoS. Danse will get a hold of you, then follow that questline to be introduced to their HQ in the Commonwealth. Trying to be vague in my descriptions. It will liven up the world as you are out and about.

Thanks for this, I love this game! I did what you said, things really ramp up! Lots of really great spectacles to see, it's a good looking game too. Not sure how much ENB is doing but often the game looks amazing, especially when lighting is involved. Some of the main quest stuff I'm not a fan of, running through the mind, etc. Argh. But mostly the main quest really impressed me. Lots of great locations and boss battles. The first major boss was a surprise. It is the first time I really had to try out my inventory and see what I had and what it could do.

The game is strange, very comfy! It is kind of an anxious experience and scary etc, and yet you can save scum very easily lol. So I get to try out all the fun weapons and see what works pefectly, then reload and do a perfect run. Not sure if that's how it is supposed to be played or not but I've enjoyed it. Often I can win first time but why kill something with 5 rounds when some other gun could kill it in 1 or 2?! So I like experimenting to see how things work. None of this would be interesting with the basic bitch gear from previous games. But this game is so much better. I've got about 10+ weapons, each really good and interesting and unique. All good for different situations. I hoard powerful weapons/ammo and save it for bosses. And for all the basic fights I use common ammo.

I love the variety and it makes me explore the guns and use the right ones at the right time. I've got a few that I've never used, but I just used the Fatman for the first time, with a mini-nuke. I had the gun for ages but no nukes. Thanks to your quests I now have about 15. I also got a new FatMan which damages legs or something. I went in the Church. At the altar, 4 big Super Mutants and a dog and one of the mutants had a minigun. So it was perfect for a mini-nuke. :smug:

My guns have finally become really strong too. The game was weird at first, shotgunning mosquitoes in the face and it hardly scratches xD RPGs are funny. But now my guns are almost like a real gun. Just one round from a 10mm will kill a zombie and send it flying across the room. Shotguns can 1-shot most weak things. Super Mutants I can 1 shot with a headshot from stealth or about 2-3 rounds from a shotgun, hand gun, or rifle. I've also got a napalm thrower which I've hardly used, a missile launcher which I love, lightning gun which is short range but amazing, like something out of Bioshock. Minigun has about 1000+ rounds now so at some point I can go to town with that.

There are so many improvements in this game. The gear is finally good now. All the usual gear from Fallout 3 but a bunch of new fun items. And lots of items with perks and things. It's so much more interesting... Even just exploring random marshland I came across a Legendary Blowfly which hilariously had an amazing flamethrower that staggers enemies.

I wasn't keen on joining the BOS because they seem like pious order following douches. But now that I have a
full set of power armor (and even upgraded that to the Devil armor or whatever), and I have a base in the sky I can fast travel to, and I got a bunch of things I can call in a chopper to help me, lol.
Ok I'm in. :D Also they hate the Institute so we seem a good fit. Now I like them. I also like that when I did a quest to clear an area (and take a bunch of mini nukes!) they sent troops there to hold it. So it feels like making actual progress by following these quests. I wouldn't mind replaying this again sometime and going against the BOS and also seeing how it would be to play as a psycho build that uses melee weapons.

Really fun game. I always hated on Bethesda games because I felt like they were so close to being fun but always so janky and undercooked. This game is really a turning point imo. It feels pretty slick and good looking, good controls, etc. And yet there is decent depth, a lot of gear and locations and characters and stuff going on. Or at least that's how it feels when you do some MQ.

I'm curious to try their later games now. Fallout 76 and that space one.

Awesome recap

Not sure if that's how it is supposed to be played or not but I've enjoyed it.
That's a great part of Fallout 4 and some other Bethesda games. There is no right way to play. Just your own way.

I wouldn't mind replaying this again sometime and going against the BOS and also seeing how it would be to play as a psycho build that uses melee weapons.
Out of the 4 factions you can end the main story with, the BoS & the Institute are the two that have the most impact. Both are very much worth doing. In usual Bethesda fashion you can do a lot of each factions content without any repercussions until a very obvious point of no return in regards to whom you will side with. Regardless of who you end up siding with, the Minutemen (the oddball / fail-safe 4th faction) are a constant. You can be full on BoS / Insitute / Railroad, and still be the General of the Minutemen. Only Nuka World has the option of really severing ties with the Minutemen.

I'm curious to try their later games now. Fallout 76 and that space one.
Fallout 76 is a strange one. It's primary pupose is to squeeze the player out of money with a lot of fear of missing out content and a very aggresive cash shop. It can be played solo, but is always online. It also has the option to subscribe, like an MMO, and you can have your own server. It also opens up a lot of parameters in the settings for how you want to play.

In my opinion, Fallout 76 is worth trying even with their monetization. When the game goes on sale it's very inexpensive. There is a tremendous amount of content. The exploration is fantastic. Great locations. Solo or group play is fine. They added in a lot over the years that make it worth a look. Overall though, I have mixed feelings about the game. I always end up just replaying Fallout 4 (with a few new mods to keep things fresh) instead.

I wont go into the political side of Starfield here. I will say this though, as a fan of Bethesda games since Daggerfall. Starfield is shit. It's boring. The procgen is bad. The copy pasted locations/dungeons are bad. The main story is neither interesting nor so bad its funny. Its just bad. The space combat is trivial with loose controls. The loading screens are plentiful. I could go on. Anyone that says it is Fallout 4 in space is either lying or didn't play Fallout 4.

Thing is though, it might still be worth trying whenever it goes on sale. I know a couple of people who quite like Starfield. I may revisit it in a few years. But I am not hopeful for Starfield being improved by Bethesda or mods. And worse than that, it makes me think Elder Scrolls 6 is going to be shit too.

Don't want to leave on a sour note. Here is a cool picture.
