This is the best autism simulator i have ever played, i tuned in to the classical radio and am swinging a swing to the tune.

Also you can use power armor without the fusion cores, but you walk slower and can't sprint.

Sometimes there is radiated weather and gain radiation levels.

Yep, what is effectively the first real quest of the game has you killing a deathclaw with a minigun while using power armour. No idea what the fuck they were thinking putting that right at the beginning, but Bethesda gonna Bethesda I guess.

Why exactly does the protagonist need to be a pre-war person? It never comes up as far as I can tell, and your stupid fucking son could have just been kidnapped from you under any other circumstances.

A writer/developer with some creativity and intelligence would have had the player character be constantly horrified and shocked at the culture shock between their world and the post-war world, which would have been interesting and potentially even emotional with a voiced protagonist, but alas the player has to be a cool sarcastic action hero who miniguns Deathclaws in the cock 5 minutes after being a normal suburban husband/wife.

Also tbh it's kind of lorebreaking.

A big part of Fallout is not knowing and not fully understanding the past. What matters is how even with a "clean slate" history repeats itself because of human nature.

Of course Bethesda didn't understand that at all.

Does the protagonist ever talk about the pre-war world? Curse the politicians for bringing the apocalypse, mention an area he remembers looking pristine 200 years ago, anything like that?

Almost never. There's a part where you escort some dorks to the ruins of your neighbourhood and can tell them that you used to live there, but that's about it.

Man, the UI is so bad. I didn't mind it in the previous games, but now with the crafting and more detailed armor/weapons it's just terrible. And it looks terrible too.

In that case, that's an important point for any review we might do in the future.

Kind of like how Bethesda got a clean slate to make a good Fallout after seeing F:NV, yet went back and made Fallout 3.1.

Bethesda. Bethesda never changes.

Another thing about the pre-war aspect, the news report on the TV strongly implies that China fired nukes first, when of course that was left ambiguous in all the previous games.

He mentions it briefly in different conversational options with different NPCs. But very rarely.

Was it? I thought it was all but directly stated that the Chinese pushed the red button after US troops invaded. America was winning so the US didn't have a reason to launch first, in theory.

Don't lie. F4 is boring shit. I played 2 hours and uninstalled. Everything is bad, graphic, story, gameplay, m/k controls, ui + bugs and lags. Its shit, just shit.:killit:

Funny how the majority of online players in the Steam RPG Codex group are playing F4 - by a huge margin.

You played it for 2 hours and uninstalled it? Are you going to get a refund?

I will say F4 >Witcher 3 (having played neither)

Steamspy says there's 436k players playing right now. That's on release day, PC only. This is an absurdingly large number even compared with other blockbuster games. By comparison, Witcher 3 had an alltime peak of 92k players. Current ownership numbers are always delayed a day.

This is Bethesda take on Fallout. Politian's aren't bad. There are bad apples but the system as a whole is good!
First 2h and you come upon things like "picture dedicated to fallen soldiers" or "we must rebuild America!".
But I doubt it has any underline concept or message whatsoever...its more of uneducated world view of idiots working on a game put in because...you know...games have plot and stuff.

That's not quite true. FO3 has terminals that talk about government repression of anti-war activists and stuff like that, while the main US army general Constantine Chase is portrayed as a bit of a General Ripper-style megalomaniac.

You do have to go digging to find that stuff, though.

Fallout 4 is Steam only right? Witcher 3 had the majority of players on GoG afaik. But still a ridiculous amount indeed.

Probably people playing because they were hoping for another Skyrim. I expect it will die down fast.

The TV report only mentions that there were confirmed nuclear detonations in several cities, there's no mention on who attacked first and the reason, so it might have been a retaliatory strike by the Chinese to a US first strike, it might have been in response to the invasion of the Chinese mainland or it might even have been vault tech... The emails and reports you read in several computers make it clear that the higher ups were clearly expecting the nuclear apocalypse to be eminent.

The main protagonist has as much emotional and intellectual depth as a cucumber, not only does he become only mildly annoyed to the sight of his spouse being killed and his child kidnapped, as he isn't surprised or even cares that his entire reality, society, country, friends, everything... Was burned to ashes by a nuclear Holocaust, it's fucking ridiculous.
