BROs, how about some testing?

Pcsx2 1.2.1 (r5875)

It looks that the graphical issues are finally gone:

Or maybe not...

:(

Software mode works fine, and adds some post-processing effects, missing in HW mode:

Too bad it’s slow. You can “fix” the HW mode by disabling Alpha correction:

But that’s all unimportant...

FMVs work only in SW mode:

Other than that, the game works / looks fine:

Any way to play Psi Ops: Mindgate Conspiracy? It stuck at "memory screen". Tried to configure any memory(stick) options but doesn't work. Google-Fu give nothing, not counting some random post that have no reply...
Seems like I should go for Second Sight.

I had the exact same problem, and I found a setting that fixes it. I can't recall it right now and I'm at work. It might have been something to do with alpha. There is a fix where you can run in hardware though.

BROS, guess what...

Pcsx2 1.2.1, all recommended speedhacks enabled.

2Eh3p2Y.jpg

Z-buffer glitches in animations are still present (HW mode):

pSrPVnz.jpg

But the game works great on Win7 x64 – stable 60 FPS when using 2x Internal. AFAIR, on WinXP x86 it was much slower (same rig).

XAmurAm.jpg

3x Internal looks even better, but it’s slower (~55 FPS)

FhFnb6t.jpg

Too bad that the “shadow” glitch is still present. HW:

SW:

iH4gv1E.jpg

v0bPDmD.jpg

Same as the previous one, mostly:

JMAFgh4.jpg

The “shadow” glitch is still here (Nocturne should be affected as well):

SW is the way to go.
It displays menus properly:

rNqllzj.jpg

While HW is borked:

b1TQBCP.jpg

And it’s much faster ingame (stable 60 FPS):

While HW suffers from slowdowns (30-40 FPS):

What is it about ATLUS games that makes them squirrely with PS2 emulation?

Fuck, trying to set emulation options for FM2 just right took me some time...

Software looks crap (low res, pixels):

DhE5yY6.jpg

8KAjtHL.jpg

OECFHOo.jpg

While hardware (increased internal res + filtering) looks better in 3D:

MeKvmHf.jpg

X7YgQ5I.jpg

But fucks up the 2D:

M4KQaq5.jpg

Trying to guess the proper aspect ratio was a nightmare too. Check pairs of screenshots below.

IMO, the first screenshot has correct AR, while the 2nd – an incorrect one:

Check the round emblem inside the ellipse:

Compare circle in “O button”:

On the other hand, 3D looks kinda stretched...

Is higher resolution with no filtering an option? Even if not, I'd probably still go with high res. (I mean, it's a shame about the 2d parts, but having the detailed 3d models reduced to a few pixels in the distance is worse in my opinion)

Regarding the aspect ratio, I think the second is the correct one (based on the seemingly 5x5 'o' letter on the stats page and menus).

Sure, but it will get you glitched AND pixelated 2D.

:nocountryforshitposters:

TBH it looks that the 1st set has proper 2D ratio and wrong 3D ratio, while for the 2nd it's vice-versa. Or maybe you're right...

So a game mentioned in this thread in like 2012 was "Dragon View", a SNES ARPG where part of it is a sidescrolling beat-em-up. Unfortunately it has some bad problems/design flaws (the combat is pretty shallow, the RPG system leads to the game being extremely linear, the outdoor Betrayal at Krondor map is slow, unwieldy and boring as shit), but it made me realize I'd like to play a really good sidescrolling ARPG. The thing I can think of that's come out recently is Dragon's Crown, but I don't know if that's like... sidescroller Gauntlet? sidescroller Diablo? Someone that plays a lot of that kind of shit just tell me what to play.

Actually I guess Metroidvanias meet the conceptual definition of what I'm talking about but I don't really like the Castlevania games... I really like having the pseudo-3D playing field where you can dodge moves by moving off-axis a la Final Fight I think.

Dragon's Crown is probably closer to Gauntlet than Diablo. There's equipment and skill tree (an incredibly shallow tree mind you, you need nearly no investment to unlock things, though you won't have enough points for everything you can spend them on) but it's mostly trivial compared to the actual twitch factor.

Have you ever played River City Ransom? Oldschool, but a good game nonetheless. There's some modern knockoffs floating around as well. One of them is based on that movie that came out a while ago. Soandso vs the World?

Of course, what I'd really recommend is Guardian Heroes. Awesome fucking game. RPG elements are very light (basically just levels with distributable stats that do different things, and a branching storyline) but the brawling and overall gameplay is excellent. Sadly, I've found Saturn emulation to be impossible, so I've not been able to play it in years.

Only thing I'm tempted to use Saturn emulator for is to try Panzer Dragoon Saga, which is supposedly the best game ever.

SMT3 is very different than P3. While P3 is a social sim with shitty dungeons, SMT3 is a great dungeon crawler with good combat. As for settings look here, though things may have changed in newer builds.

Thanks, nocturne works absolutely fine. Anyone knows on what exactly it is depending how a game runs on your pc on a ps2 emulator? I tred emulating shadow of the colossus a while back and I didnt get it to run in a playable state, the sound is slow and hacking my fps is abyssmal...

It's mostly game-depandant, of course except obv. factors like CPU (most important) and GPU (less important). Some games work like crap on Pcsx2 - SOTC is one of them, due to built-in frame skipping or sth.
Check the wiki ghostdog posted for info about speed hacks, etc.
