I finally got around to playing this and my god it literally is Gothic 2 again, but with the worst combat they could think of. How was this not fixed by now?
No wonder nothing in Germany works if people like PB are considered movers and shakers.

You should play Gothic 2 again and compare its combat to ELEX. Compared to Gothic 2 ELEX has AMAZING combat.

Gothic 2 had shit combat but that was during a time when most 3D games had awful shit combat. There is ZERO excuse for the system in Elex to be the way it is other than "so it feels like Gothic lol xD". Mods don't help either.
Also the voice acting is the absolute worst I've ever heard in a German game. I made the mistake of starting with the German VO because I assumed my illiterate countrymen wouldn't be able to come up with a decent English translation anyway but the English VO is actually slightly better because of the degree of separation it offers. Don't even get me started on the female character model they used. The single one.

you are completely delusional and should seek professional help
Have you listened to the German VO, as a native speaker? They didn't just create text and dialogue that sounds like it was written in English first and then translated by some middle schooler, they chose the worst possible voices for any given NPC. Any given NPC.

No.

Unless you play something like a mage, and so it is supposed to be that way because you excel at other stuff.

Also the voice acting is the absolute worst I've ever heard in a German game.
It has subpar sound design in the sense that a wooden branch sounds like a wooden floorboard, or that some stone-like surfaces (and I use "stone-like" there because it is supposed to be an alien world) sound like wooden floorboards, but the voice acting is anywhere from serviceable to great.

Don't even get me started on the female character model they used. The single one.

There is more than 1 female character model, but I am assuming you mean that there are no healthier or skinnier-looking women?

That's fine.

Fits the profile. In a post-apoc world, only the fit ones survive.
And it also makes sense that most of them look the same in an area since the genetic pool is limited.

Gothic 2 came down to "pull critter, swing right, swing left, swing right and pray". At least you were able to swing forever because THERE WAS NO RETARDED STAMINA BAR.
As far as female models go, I'm specifically referring to the god-awful manjaw face they all have. This is below Nether Realms Studios and their """female""" models.

I disagree. And I am also not going to waste time to explain why because I feel that would be stupid.

Stamina bar works just fine. Just keep pacing and let your companion chip in.

It's supposed to actually make your companion relevant, other than just a talking head.

Creative license. Alien world. Numerous reasons to wave that off.

And as I say: there are more than the Berserker females. The Albs, for example, are totally different.

But if you're adamant about this being a deal breaker, then sure, I'll give you the point: females have a displeasing jaw line.

Is that really ELEX's biggest problem? :P

Both Gothic 2 and Elex have shit combat because PB is ran by autistic germans that refuse to actually playtest their own games.

"Surely it will be good this time" says the man deciding to play melee in a PB game after slogging through the shit melee combat of every other PB game.

I wouldn't even grant the point. I like jaws on females.

I disagree. Collison-based melee combat with combos you have to setup and parrying is at the very least a good design decision. IMO Gothic 1-2 combat is the best I've seen in a non-top-down RPG, especially for the improving animations with weapon training. Compared to say, Elder Scrolls combat, Bloodlines combat, Alpha Protocol combat, Witcher 3 combat, it wins out by a large margin. ELEX doesn't have the improving anims and is worse for it, but it has a jetpack to make it interesting. In any case it still crushes those games I named. And if you're comparing to a pure combat game, well you're not making the right comparison.

You have to turn off auto-lock in ELEX. It's a night and day difference. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking by making it default.

Fenix for the mod, yes. they released a .pdf that has the weapons bunched up and lists their pre-reqs, their upgrade paths, and what intended changes they went through.

I'm curious to try the projectile launchers and flame throwers specifically.

So far, only about a few hours in and just running around and doing the usual "early game shit" -- easy xp, teleporters, free armors (gotta get my scrap scavenger getup going on).

Only noticeable difference is that quite a few weapons can be used earlier on since their +0 requirements are lower (for example, warbow or a laser rifle). The other noticeable change is that the _named_ artifact weapons are noticeably much stronger, which is good cuz many were disappointing -- even compared to a generic counterpart.
